You groan as you feel something jab your side, awakening you from your slumber. You turn onto your side in hopes to fall back asleep, but another jab keeps you from doing so. You open your eyes to see Dave tossing next to you. You furrow your brows and frown when you see tears streaming down his cheeks. You sit up and gently shake him.

"Dave, wake up." you mumble groggily.

When he doesn't you shake him harder.

"Dave, wake up." you say louder.

Dave wakes up with a jolt, he looks frightened and looks around alertly. When he sees you he begins to calm down. You gently cup one of his cheeks with one hand, wiping away the tears.

"Nightmare?" you ask calmly.

Dave sniffs and nods, leaning into your touch. You pull Dave towards you until your laying on your back, Dave laying on your chest.

"Let it out."

With those few words escaping your lips Dave begins to cry. Sobs rack his body as he clings to you. You rub his back gently, whispering words of reassurance into his ear.

Once the sobbing dies down you ask one question.

"What was your nightmare about?"

You couldn't quite pick up what he was saying as it was muffled by your chest.

"Timeline.... died.... couldn't save"

You understood what he was talking about. It must have been him seeing your death in another timeline.

"It's just a nightmare," you mutter, "I'm right here, and I'm still alive."

You feel Dave shuffle under your grip and feel as he places a kiss on your collarbone.

"Thank you for staying with me." you manage to catch his words clearly.

"Of course," you smile, "I love you."

"I love you too" he replies.

"How about we try to get more sleep?" You ask.

Dave whimpers in reply, clinging onto you more tightly.

"It's okay, I'll be here when you wake." you hum, petting his soft hair.

Soon enough you can hear his quiet snores. You smile and close your eyes, hoping for some peaceful slumber.
