I Love You | Ghost!John x Reader
"Hey, leave me alone!" you yell, squirming against the several pairs of arms holding you.
"Oh shut up!" one of the boys growls.
Your eyes begin to water as you're pushed closer to the house. The house you knew you shouldn't go into. With one last scream you're shoved into the house and the door slammed behind you.
"You come out of there and we'll beat the living shit out of you!"
You wince at the harsh voice before looking around at the near blackness around you. You fumble to get your phone out and turn the flashlight on. The house was ruined, with wallpaper ripped from the walls and left on the ground, and furniture chucked around and ruined.
As quietly as you can, you begin to walk down the hallway. Outside you could hear your bullies snickering and trying to agitate you. You try to ignore them as you attempt to keep yourself calm. Everything in the house was way too quiet, it felt unnatural.
You decide that maybe you could escape through the back somewhere. So you make your way through the house towards the back.
"Hey, what are you doing in here?!"
A scream rips from your chest as you hear the voice behind you. You swing around to see a guy floating only a few feet away from you. He had dark hair and wore black rimmed glasses. You can't seem to find any words as you shuffle backwards, away from the ghost.
"Hey loser," one of the bullies voices call out as the front door opens, "what're screaming like a baby for?!"
Your eyes widen.
"Oh, so you're being bullied," The ghost whispers, "come with me."
You were too shocked to really process what was happening. And somehow the ghost manages to grab your wrist and lead you along. You could hear your bullies wandering through the house, calling out for you. The ghost leads you to a closet.
"Just stay in here," he tells you, "I'll deal with those bullies."
You duck inside of the closet and the ghost closes the door. You listen quietly as you hear the ghost laughing, and the screams of your bullies. You hear a few slamming doors, running footsteps, and then nothing. You wait in feared anticipation, wondering if it would be the bullies, or the ghost to come and get you.
The door swings open to reveal the ghost, grinning happily.
"There, they're gone now." He says proudly.
"Oh, uh, thank you..."
"John, John Egbert!"
"Thank you John." You smile.
"It was no problem," he nods, "I was bullied when I was alive, so I felt like I had to help you."
You stand up and walk out of the closet.
"So, how long have you been here John?"
"Um, I dunno," he shrugs, "a few years."
"Oh, don't you get lonely?"
"Yeah, but there isn't much I can do."
"Well, how about I visit," you look over at him, "then at least you'll have some company."
"Really?!" he exclaims, "you'd do that?!"
You nod, "of course, you did save me."
"Well, I'd love that..."
"(Y/n), (y/n) (l/n)."
~~~
It had been a few months since John had saved you from your tormentors, and ever since then, they hadn't bothered you at all. And you had also went to visit John a few times a week.
You walk up to the haunted house with a smile, entering and closing the door behind you.
"Hey John, you in here?!"
"Oh, hey (y/n)!"
The bright eyed ghost appears before you, an excited grin on his face.
"How are you?"
"Well, as good as a ghost can be." John chuckles.
You and John chat as you wander down the hall until you reach a comfortable looking room. It was the neatest room in the house, and it was where you and John hung out whenever you visited. You sit down against the wall and John sits beside you.
"So, (y/n)," John gulps, "could you do me a favour?"
"Sure." You smile.
John pulls out a pair of goofy glasses with a fake moustache attached to them.
"Could you find my dad and give this to him?" he asks, "tell him that I'm sorry for running away from home."
Timidly, you take the glasses from him.
"Of course."
"So, listen," he sighs, "when you give this to him, I'll probably disappear."
Your head snaps towards him, your eyes wide.
"I know." He sighs again.
Before John can react, you launch yourself forwards, crashing into John. At first John is shocked, before he returns your embrace. You lean back momentarily before pressing your lips to his cold ones. He lets out a shocked sound, before leaning closer, returning to kiss.
You pull away and feel yourself tear up.
"I love you, John." You smile.
"I love you too, (y/n)."
~~~
After quite some time of searching, you finally find John's dad. You sigh before knocking on the door. After a moment the door opens to reveal a man in a hat.
"Hi," you begin timidly, "are you John's dad?"
The man looks shocked when you ask this question.
"Yes, I am."
You nod and pull out the glasses, handing them to John's dad. His eyes were wide, staring at the glasses and then you.
"John wanted me to tell you that he was sorry for running away," you tell him, "he wanted me to give you those as well."
The man tears up and nods, "thank you so much."
You say goodbye and turn around to walk away. Your eyes tear up when you hear John's dad sob before closing the door. You also wanted to take one last look at the house, just in case John was still there.
It only takes you about half an hour to reach the house. By the time you got there it was dark. You enter the house and begin to look around.
"John, are you in here?!"
When you get no reply, you begin to cry. He really was gone. You stop walking when you notice a book; it was the one you had given John to read while you weren't with him. Beside it sat an old looking pencil. You pick up the book and flick through it, a sad smile on your face. Once you reach the back of the book, you notice something written on a blank page.
'Dear (y/n),
I just wanted to thank you for everything. From keeping me company, to giving that message and glasses to my dad, to loving me.
I really do love you; you stayed with me, no matter what. I really do appreciate that. I'm sorry that I couldn't stay, but I really needed to pass on. I hope that someday I'll see you on the other side. But hopefully not too soon :B
I love you, (y/n) (l/n).
John Egbert.'
You sob loudly as you collapse on the ground, clutching the book to your chest.
"I love you too, John Egbert."
