The forest was quiet as you crept through the brush, your crossbow clutched in your hands. Every now and again, a bird would chirp or a squirrel would scuttle up a tree. Your eye trained on anything that moved into your sight, making sure that it wasn't a danger.

You cease any movement as soon as what you were looking for came into your sight. A buck trots into the clearing just before you. You take a quite breath, calming yourself as you lift your crossbow up. Carefully, you aim at the deer, hoping to kill it in one shot. Your finger sits over the trigger as you keep your aim steady. You pull the trigger and the arrow goes flying towards your prey.

A gasp escapes your lips when a blur jumps in front of your arrow. Instead of the arrow hitting your target, the blur is hit, slamming into the deer. The deer scrambles to its feet and runs off. Your eyes widen and you jump to your feet. You drop your crossbow and run towards the figure that was now lying on the ground, whimpering and clutching her side, which now had an arrow imbedded into it. The grey skin and orange horns that prodded out from their hair instantly told you that they were a troll.

"I am so sorry," you apologise, "I didn't see you until I had already fired."

You kneel beside the person; you had no idea what to do. You were in the middle of nowhere with an injured person.

"Okay, I'm going to take you to my home so I can help you."

You quickly walk back over to the crossbow you had dropped and tie it to your belt before returning to the troll. Being as gentle as you can, pick the troll up, making sure not to touch the injury. It wouldn't take too long until you reach your small cabin. You just hope that you can help remove that arrow safely.

Surely enough, only 15 minutes later you make it to your small abode. You manage to get inside while keeping the troll in your arms. You gently lay her on your bed and walk off to grab some supplies.

Only a few minutes later do you return with a first aid kit and a pair of scissors.

"Alright, let's get this done."

After a long 45 minutes you finally removed the arrow and cleaned up the wound. The troll was asleep and now all you had to do was clean up the now olive cloths and put away the first aid kit.

You pick everything up and make your way to the laundry, where you bin the unneeded stuff and put away the kit. Just as you begin to cook something up for your unexpected quest, there's a crash in your room. You drop the ingredients onto the counter and run towards your room.

The troll was now awake, and on the floor, the books and lamp from your bedside along with her.

"Hey, are you alright?" you ask, walking towards her.

At the sound of your voice, she looks up, her eye wide.

"Hey, it's okay." You try to sooth her.

"Where am I?" she asks frantically.

"You're in my cabin," you begin "there was an accident while I was out hunting."

She freezes, kind of just staring at you, before she sits up straight, wincing.

"Oh dear," she frowns, "Equius will be worrying for me!"

She tries to get up, but inevitably she doesn't move from the ground.

"Alright, how about I fix you something to eat, and then I'll go find Equius."

She thinks for a moment before nodding.

"Okay then."

With that you help her to her feet and lay her back into bed.

"Just stay here."

You had been outside for about 3 hours, searching for whomever 'Equius' was. So, you decide to finally go back and go to look once again in the morning. You trudge back inside, slipping off your boots and sitting them by the door. You peek in your room to see that your guest was still sitting in your bed.

"I'm back."

She perks up at the sound of your voice.

"Did you find Equius?"

"No," you shake your head, "I'm sorry, but I'll continue to search."

She seems upset, but nods.

"So, I forgot to ask, what's your name?"

"Oh, I'm Nepeta!"

"Nice to meet you Nepeta, I'm (y/n)."

It had been a few days since you had had the hunting accident with Nepeta. Nepeta was now able to walk around, so since she can, she always comes with you in search of her friend.

"Alright, let's change those bandages."

Nepeta sits down as you begin to unwind her old ones.

"Your wound is beginning to heal up." you smile, wrapping a new one around her torso.

You chuck out the old bandage away and turn back to Nepeta.

"Are you ready to go back out to search?"

Nepeta nods and you both exit.

"So then I crashed through the window-"

"Nepeta!" a voice calls out, stopping Nepeta's story.

A grin spreads onto her face when a figure makes their way towards the pair of you.

"Equius!" she squeals and runs off.

She leaps at him and he easily catches her, swinging her as they hug. You smile as you watch the reunion. Once the pair stops spinning your eyes lock with Equius.

"Oh, Equius, this is (y/n)," Nepeta introduces, "they, uh, bumped into me and helped me find you."

"Well, thank you for looking after Nepeta."

"It was no problem." You smile.

"Well, we better get going."

"Of course," you nod, "it was a pleasure meeting you both."

And with that you turned around and headed of home alone.

~Bonus Scene~

You hum as you take a sip of your hot chocolate. You add another piece of wood to the fire and sit back in your chair. Outside snow was falling, covering everything in white. Your peace was interrupted by sporadic knocking on your door. You get up and make your way to the door.

You open the door, only to have something jump at you. You let out a sound that was almost identical to that of a frightened cat.

"Hello (y/n)!"

"Nepeta?!"

"Hello there."

"Hi Equius?"

You had no idea what was happening.

"Uh, it's nice to see you, but what are you doing here?"

"Oh, well, we wanted to thank you."

"Oh, well, come on in."
