Rose x Female reader
You tapped your fingernails against the top of the counter you were leaning lazily on. You were resting your head on your hand, which was pushing your cheek up. It made you look like you were a fat baby chipmunk.
Work had been so slow today, although you weren't surprised. There were a few people who came in on a Sunday to buy a newspaper and occasionally someone will come in and ask for a copy of some new release, but apart from that no one really came to the bookstore. E-books were a lot more popular now days since everyone seemed to have phones, including children that are way too young to even understand how much they cost. Books could also be bought online now thanks to eBay and Amazon. You didn't really care much about that though, you were just worried that if the owners stopped getting money from sales, they'd loose the place and you'd loose your job. Recently, they had decided to make an expensive upgrade, so now the place is also a cafe. That meant you had to learn how to make coffee and tea too. Luckily, there was only about an hour left until your shift was over and you could leave.
You were almost falling asleep you were so relaxed. The only sound you could hear that was the ticking of the clock on the wall and the pitter patter of the rain outside. Rain was always so calming, but it was annoying too. You had to walk all the way home after you finished your shift. Of course it was just your luck that you would forget to bring an umbrella and a jacket today. You were so ready to die of hypothermia anyway.
You were interrupted from your lazy state by the bell above the door ringing in your ears. You lifted your head to get a glimpse of who had just walked in and felt your eyes visibly widen when you noticed who was stepping inside.
It was a girl who looked about your age with short blonde hair that reached down to her chin and strange yet captivating purple eyes. Unlike you, this girl was smart and came with both a jacket and an umbrella. She folded the umbrella and placed it beside the door so it was leaning against the wall to avoid falling over and took off her rain covered jacket. She folded it over her folded arms and proceeded to walk towards the counter you were working behind.
"Hello there," She spoke. Her voice was soft and calming. "I hate to disturb the nap that you seemed to be having, but do you possibly have a book on beasts? Possibly bestiaries?"
"O-oh, yeah," You laughed lightly and began to type into the computer on the desk that helped you find books in the book store. You could feel the girl's eyes staring at you while you searched. A light pink blush dusted your cheeks as you continued to type. "Um... Yeah, there are some in that isle over there near the b-back." You cursed your stutter and the stupid blush that was stretching up to your ears. It only got worse when the girl laughed at your shyness. She headed off to the back of the isle you had pointed at with a polite thank you. You let out a sigh of relief, finally calming down.
You stared down at your computer and cleared the search bar. You thought of a way you could start a conversation with the attractive girl when she got back up here. There was only one dilemma. You didn't know if she liked girls. You clicked your tongue and thought about a good question to ask that might lead you to the answer, but your thoughts were interrupted by the girl placing a book up on the bench.
"That will be 25.90." You cleared your throat awkwardly. The girl handed you a twenty dollar note and a ten dollar note, meaning you had to work out how to handle change with sweaty hands, which were profusely sweating from nerves.
"When does your shift end? I cannot imagine a bookstore would be open much later than this?"
You lifted your eyes from the cash register you had finally managed to get the money out of to the girl that was now talking to you.
"Oh, it ends in about ten minutes," you smiled and handed her the change that she gladly took and placed in your tip jar. You laughed and placed all the change you had got today (which was only about ten dollars since no one ever seemed to come here) into your jeans pocket.
"Well then, allow me to walk you home?"
You locked the cash register and nodded at the girl. She smiled gratefully and pulled her jacket on over the adorable dress and stockings she was wearing. Right as you finished locking up the register and grabbed the keys and your bag odd of the wall, she picked her umbrella from where it was lent against the wall. She opened the door for you until you were out and locked it behind you before she opened her umbrella.
"So, which way are we walking?"
"O-oh, this way," you smiled.
Suddenly, you felt something touch your arm. A few seconds later, the girl linked her left arm with yours and moved the umbrella to her right hand. Luckily the umbrella was large enough to cover the both of you. You weren't exactly sure what was going on, seeing as you didn't even know this girl's name but she was already making physical contact with you. The blush you were getting used to feeling taking over your face returned, but you were more surprised by the blush you noticed on the girl's face.
"I'm Rose by the way," Rose smiled. "I realized I neglected to introduce myself."
"Nice to meet you Rose I'm gay--I mean (Y/N)." If you were blushing before, by god you were a tomato by now. You were expecting Rose to unlink her arm from yours and to walk away and leave you stranded here in the rain, but instead she just laughed.
"Don't worry about it," Rose's blush increased. "I am too."
Your mouth opened from shock, making you look like a fish. This beautiful girl who you had just accidentally come out to came out to you too.
"Oh," You laughed.
"I hope that does not make you see me in a different light."
"Well I mean it does," You sighed. "But I don't mean that in a bad way, I mean..."
Rose glanced down at the pavement you were both stepping on. You looked over at her and decided to grow some metaphorical balls for once.
"I..." You thought about how to say what was on your mind. "Oh fuck it."
You unlinked your arm from Rose's and instead placed your hand on the side of her hips. You quickly turned her around and stopped right where you were standing on the sidewalk. Her eyes widened as she noticed how close your faces were. You weren't sure if you were about to make the biggest mistake in your life or the best decision, but you no longer had time to think about it because your lips met Rose's.
Rose moved the umbrella to cover the both of you, but eventually it ended up pressed against your back when she wrapped her arms around your neck. She melted into the kiss rather than pulling back until the both of you were running out of oxygen.
"I'm sorry." You looked away from Rose, but before you could feel horrible about having kissed her, she lifted your hand and pressed her soft black lipstick covered lips against it. You blushed again as she relinked her arm with yours and put the umbrella back over your heads.
"Do not worry about it, I enjoyed it." Rose winked at you before the two of you began to walk again. "I think we should do it again sometime."
