John x Reader
John fiddled with the end of his long, blue windy sock uncomfortably. He invited you over today to tell you something he'd been meaning to tell you for weeks, but here he was being a 'cluckbeast' and pretending it's okay instead of just telling you already. You were halfway through your third Con Air rerun of the year when you had got up to go to the bathroom. You still haven't returned yet, leaving him to his thoughts.
The two of you have been best friends since middle school after being partnered on a science project. You had to make a volcano out of an extensive amount of glue, paper and paint. He told you about his obsession with magic tricks and good movies, which started the conversation about which movies were good movies that eventually started the argument about it. The day ended with the both of you walking home with shirts covered in red, green and brown paint that had mixed with glue from where you stuck the glue brush in the paint accidentally. Both of your parents weren't happy about that, but it was something the both of you would laugh about for weeks afterwards. He could still remember the first time the two of you hung out outside of school.
His dad didn't hesitate to bombard the two of you with baked goods when you made it inside the house full of jesters and strange harlequins. At first John was extremely embarrassed, but you convinced him that you didn't mind when shrilly and musical laughter escaped your mouth.
Speaking of that laughter, a (S/C) hand was waving in his face, accompanied by the beautiful laugh he recognised as yours echoing through his ears. He snapped out of his thoughts and adjusted the glasses that he always wore and were slipping down the bridge of his nose.
"Oh, sorry about that (Y/N)!" John smiled goofily, his buck teeth showing through pink lips.
"It's no problem John," you pressed play on the movie again and gently placed the bowl of popcorn you had made while you were up between the two of you. "What were you thinking about?"
"Well I was just thinking about..." John twiddled his thumbs and stared absently at the hard wood floor the two of you had somehow managed to get comfortable sitting crossed legged on in the name of seeing the TV better. "Honestly, I was thinking about the first time you came over. Don't you think it's weird here?"
"No, it's perfectly normal. Apart from the bathtub and toilet that had somehow managed to move out of your bathroom when I first got here," you took your eyes off of the screen for a moment to look over at John. "Why do you ask?"
"Well I mean, my dad has--uh--had an obsession with Betty Crocker, weird clown dolls and fedoras. How is that normal?"
"Dude, my parents were obsessed with collecting weird stuff too," you giggled. "And don't diss the fedoras, they're cool."
John smiled to himself and dug his hand into the huge bowl of popcorn separating the two of you like an ocean between continents. When he glanced over at you, he noticed your eyes were glued to the screen like they had previously been before you got up, following everything happening on the screen. He was so distracted by watching your stunning (E/C) eyes following each and every movement that he didn't notice when you dipped your hand back into the bowl to get more popcorn. He was so distracted, that he forgot he still had his hand in the bowl because he was busy starring at you. That was until he felt something brush against his hand, making him jump a little, and when your eyes met his and a blush he had never seen before mounted your cheeks, be realised what it was.
"S-sorry." You pulled your hand out from the bowl and shifted to hide the pinkish hue on your (S/C) cheeks.
"No, I should be sorry," despite your attempts, John noticed the blush that was pushing him to finally tell you what he had been trying to all day. "I just kind of left my hand in the bowl... Um actually, (Y/N), can I talk to you?"
"Yeah sure!" You paused the movie again and turned to face John. He gulped noticeably and loudly before he began to play with the end of his wind sock again.
Time seemed to slow down, just with you staring straight into John's perfect blue eyes. He thought over everything that Karkat had told him from his studies of troll romance and romcoms, he seemed to think he was a master of romance despite currently not having a matesprit or kismesis, though John was pretty positive he had a thing for Dave. With a deep breath, he finally broke the thick silence.
"So uh, we've been best friends since we were kids and I've been kind of scared to tell you this," John seemed to be anxious under your gaze. "But I talked to pretty much everyone I could about this and they all said exactly the same thing, to tell you. So uh, here goes."
John shuffled forwards on the floor, trying not to get his windy sock stuck. He reached out for your hands hesitantly. You allowed him to take your hands in his cold but comforting ones. A blush that was becoming all too familiar reached back up to both of your cheeks as your eyes met again.
"I really like you, and I mean, like like," John smiled softly at you. "And if you don't feel the same way or don't want to hang out anymore then I understand."
"Why would I ever want to stop hanging out John?" You smiled at John. He smiled weakly at you before looking down at the floor again. "Especially since... I like you too."
"Wait, r-really?" Johns smile turned into a full jaw drop. "But you're so amazing, why would you ever like someone like m-"
A pair of soft pink lips suddenly met John's. The sensation was something he had never felt before, and it made his heart race. It felt like electricity as his hands traveled to your waist and pulled you into his lap. His eyes closed tightly when he noticed you had yours closed. He had absolutely no idea what he was doing, and honestly he was just winging it. You hadn't released his lips yet, so he assumed he was doing something right. Your hands brushed against his cheeks until eventually the both of you were running out of air and had to break the kiss to breath again. You giggled once you had caught your breath again, huffing a few times. John gazed into your eyes again before he suddenly pulled you down onto the floor and against his chest. You giggled into his body, and rested your head comfortably on his chest.
"Hey (Y/N), I know you're comfortable and all, but please don't fall asleep here," John kissed the top of your head through your (H/C) hair. "I don't have the heart to move and wake you back up."
"Don't tell me that, I'll fall asleep just so I don't have to leave." You giggled.
"You don't have to leave until you want to."
"So, never?"
"Yeah basically," John tightened his arms around your torso. "By the way (Y/N), that may have been my first kiss."
"Oh, really?" You moved your head from where it was, squished against John's chest. "Same here."
"Really? Because it uh, really seemed like you knew what you were doing."
"Karkat made me watch a million romcoms," you rolled your eyes and laughed. John could feel your laughter and began to laugh too at the strange feeling. "There were enough kisses in there for me to study and become a full time professional."
The both of you fell back into comfortable silence. John sighed as you reached your hands up to run them through his jet black hair.
"You want to keep watching the movie now you goof?" You felt John kiss the top of your head again before he buried his chin into your hair.
"Definitely!"

A/N
Hey everyone! I'm currently on a vacation for the next week or so, so I will most likely post the next few one shots I have finished and ready to be posted and that will be all I post during the time I'm away. Thank you so much @-_splendid_- for the request! I needed something to work on during the two and a half hour plane flight, and this request definitely kept me busy. I hope you enjoyed!
Until next chapter!
