Special: What if Magnus met her first. (Part four)
The next few days were fun, Loki warmly greeted (y/n) when he and Magnus saw her. They kept nearby her a lot to protect her from potential danger and helped her with her schoolwork. She understood the lessons more from their help and her grades rose as she did makeup assignments and did better on tests. She also was able to learn more about her family and about the guardians she had. Loki played with her and teased her a bit while Magnus taught her how to cook some different dishes from their homeland. A Saturday morning was met with silence. (Y/n) did not hear Loki speaking or the deep voice of Magnus. No smell of cooking breakfast. The pale young woman got up and got dressed before she went downstairs. Nobody. Nobody at the door. Nobody sitting in the living room. No usual squabbling in the kitchen. The albino looked at the time and saw it was already noon.
She sighed, she had gotten so used to having company that she now realized how lonely she was. The albino's shoulders fell in dejection. She pulled out some of the groceries that Magnus helped her get and began preparations for cooking. As she was getting the ingredients ready, she heard footsteps on her porch. Two pairs of steps. A knock on the door made her put down her task and walk to the door. She looked out of the window and saw Magnus there. Her face lit up in a smile and she opened the door.
"Magnus! Good morning!," (y/n) greeted.
The blond man's face softened from seeing her and hearing her voice. He had a stony face on before. He must have been in a business mindset before he saw her. The girl's red-violet eyes went past him to the man who stood a few paces behind him. The man had his back to the two. He seemed to be on the lookout.
"Good morning (y/n).," Magnus greeted her in return before seeing her attention turned to his companion, "I have someone for you to meet."
(Y/n) looked back to Magnus and opened the door wider before stepping aside, motioning him and the other man behind him in.
"Come on in. I was just making something to eat before exercising and studying.," the albino girl said, "Want me to make your usual coffee?"
"That would be great, thank you.," Magnus replied, "Thurston, come in."
The man that was keeping a lookout turned and (y/n) saw his face clearly. He had a stern yet handsome face with fair skin that had a slight tint of tan. His scarlet eyes were sharp and hard, seemingly piercing right through the girl. He was lean and muscular, his clothing was military-esque. A black undershirt was covered by a button up and a military winter coat. He had what looked like military tags hanging from a chain around his neck, another choker like accessory had a cross on it. His military pants and boots were clean. A large firearm that looked like a sniper rifle was slung over her shoulder. His hair was a deep brown color with a slight reddish tint, bangs long enough to cover over his eyes slightly and partly cover his ears. A baret hat was on his head, tilted slightly to the side.
Thurston stopped his approach to the house when he saw the teen girl. His eyes stared back at her for a bit before turning to Magnus, as if asking for more orders.
'He must be some sort of soldier and Magnus is his boss.,' (y/n) thought to herself.
Magnus motioned Thurston to come in and the man obeyed. His red eyes never stopped looking at the albino. Even after she closed the door and walked back to her kitchen, she felt those scarlet eyes burning into her. She could not deny that he and the others were very handsome.
She came back out with two cups of coffee, giving each man a cup. Magnus noticed how his companion was staring at her and her seeming confusion about Thurston's prescence.
"Loki had to return home. I called Thurston to cover for him.," Magnus explained, "Thurston, this is (y/n). I hope you two get along, especially since it was her mother's last wish."
The brunet man was quiet as his intense gaze was set on Magnus, he nodded quietly and looked at the coffee mug in his hand. He seemed to be deliberating on what to do with it before taking a flask out of his pocket and pouring some of its contents into the cup.
Thurston took a sip of the concoction and seemed to relax a bit. He sat on the couch and set his weapon on the floor. The man looked out the window to seemingly keep watch.
Magnus caught (y/n)'s attention, "He does not speak much, but he's the best man to protect you."
The blond Dane spoke softly to (y/n), easing her tension towards this new man. The girl went back to cooking and talking to Magnus. She tried to engage Thurston a bit in conversation, but did not get any response from him. She brushed the man's silence off and continued her tasks. She finished cooking and eat before cleaning the kitchen up. After she was finished, she got her coat and shoes on. She grabbed her parasol and her bag.
"Going somewhere?," Magnus asked as Thurston focused on her once more.
The man's sharp eyes set on her and gripped his firearm. The brunet stood, ready for action.
"I'm just going for a walk to get exercise. Then I'll study some and clean a bit.," the albino answered the worried dane.
"I'll come.," Thurston finally spoke.
He had an accent that was northern European, kind of thick. His voice matched his face, stern but attractive. It had depth, but not as much as Magnus. It was deeper than Loki's voice.
"You don't have to.," The girl said and smiled kindly.
Thurston stayed firm, "I'm coming."
He was so insistent. (Y/n) nodded and let him follow her. Magnus stood as well and left with them.
"I will be gone until Monday. You two have each other until then.," the dane explained, "Thurston, keep her safe and be nice. (Y/n), Thurston will be there for you."
The three said their goodbyes and Magnus left.
The Scandinavian girl locked the house and walked with Thurston right beside her the whole way. He had his eyes forward and his firearm on him. (Y/n) opened her parasol and hid in its shade as the sun shone overhead, the two's footsteps could be heard in the snow. It was quiet and a little unnerving to walk next to such a serious man who gave off a dangerous feeling. His energy felt more like an apex predator stalking beside her rather than a man. She saw his hand. It looked a little calloused, but he took care of it. The nails were trimmed and clean. The teen noticed that her new guard had scars on his face, slashing scars like he had been in a fight. A light one over his eye, a few on his cheeks and one on his lip. All of the men she met that worked for her mom had scars, hell, even her dad had a few scars. Was her mom into scars?
She looked to Thurston again and remembered something, "Um.. Thurston?"
The pale girl flinched a little when Thurston's head turned quickly to face her when he heard his name. Those striking and dangerous looking eyes bore into her red violet ones.
"Loki showed me a picture of you letting me sleep on your chest when I was an infant.," the teen spoke, "I.. kind of want to hear the story from you."
Thurston stared at the girl before looking forward and continued to walk, the albino sighed silently and walked with him. Perhaps he was going to be too hard to get along with. His face was turned away, she believed that he was looking for potential dangers.
Thurston was feeling his heart pound and his cheeks warm up as a response to (y/n) talking to him. He could hardly look at her without staring. She literally shone with a glorious light. How much she had grown since he last saw her. How much he wanted to tell her everything and confess right there. He was being overwhelmed with emotion. He thanked her mother for allowing him to be there for her. How he wanted to touch her. To hear her voice again, to move closer. He could not move too fast, though. Magnus said it would scare her. Thurston cursed Malthe for stealing her away from him. The man turned back to face where he was walking once he settled down.
"Your mother saw that I was taking a break and handed you to me so that she could get something done.," Thurston said plainly, internally celebrating that he was finally speaking more to this girl.
(Y/n) leaned in a little closer with a smile on her face, "What was working for Mor like?"
Thurston looked down at her with harsh Scarlet eyes, his brunet brows seemed to be in a permanent scowl.
"She was fair. She could be stern when she wanted to be.," the man answered, "I had to guard her in case of intruders wanting to harm her and then I had to guard you."
He remembered how her mother would give her to him, sometimes just placing her on top of him while he was asleep. Waking up to a baby on him was surprising, but he tried not to get annoyed little baby (y/n) as she could not help it. Thurston's scarlet eyes looked at the albino teen with him. Her sweet face shimmered with light. He was happy to see her once more.
Thurston faced forward, "Magnus did not tell me where to stay, so I hope you don't mind that I stay with you. It would make it easier to protect you that way."
(Y/n) did not know what to say but she smiled. He was there to protect her. Thurston continued to walk with her. She looked down again to his bare hand swinging beside him.
Thurston felt his hand be taken by a slightly smaller one. He looked down and saw a pale shimmering hand holding his. The man stood slightly closer to the girl. His lips turned up slightly, showing his happiness. The two walked into the town hand in hand.
"Thurston. I'm happy to have met you.," the girl smiled, "It's like I'm finally getting the friends and family I've wanted."
"Have you been lonely?," Thurston inquired.
"Very.," (y/n) replied, "Being moved every so often and living on the edge of the cities is not very good for your social life. And people don't really like things that are too different. So albinos are not very welcome."
The soldier like man was not so happy about what he heard. How could someone be so cruel to this sweet girl. The two walked to the city park together. Thurston began to think of things that would cheer this sweet girl up. He thought of something.
"Your mother had us create a garden. I'm sure Loki showed you a picture.," the man said as he thought of the beauty of the garden.
(Y/n) nodded, "Ja. It was pretty. I'm sure it's even better in person."
"It is. Perhaps one day I can take you back to your mother's home and show you where you were born.," the brunet Continued with his usual stern attitude.
His hand held hers with a slightly tighter grip, which she responded to by giving him a gentle squeeze in return.
"How did you and the others meet my mother?," (y/n) asked, "Oh, do you know anything about Magnus's sister? He never shares with me."
"Your mother took me in when I was young. She helped to raise me.," Thurston spoke, "Magnus's sister is good. You should ask him more than I."
(Y/n) hummed a little and had a soft smile on her face. Her mother helped to raise this man? He must be younger than he looks then, or her mom was older than she looked when she gave birth to (y/n). The teen girl was stopped by Thurston pulling her arm slightly and became quieter. He looked serious again. She had sworn she saw a small smile. The man pulled her away from the street, looking around. He seemed to be a little uneasy. The brunet man pulled (y/n) into a more secluded area in the park. A place where people did not go anymore.
"Thurston?," the albino asked and had her mouth covered by his hand.
He did not even look at her, but he covered her mouth and pulled her closer. He pulled her down to hide in a snowdrift.
"Hush. I saw someone I recognize.," the man whispered.
He held (y/n) close to himself with one hand while gripping the firearm with the other. Thurston peeked over the snowdrift. He internally cursed about how hard Malthe was making his job as he spotted the man that alerted his senses. He made sure that the teenaged girl he was protecting did not see the man, nor the man see her. If those two met, it would not be good for Thurston. The scarlet eyed man waited for the unwanted person to pass before he looked at (y/n).
She had her eyes closed and was holding onto Thurston in return. The man finally let go of her and uncovered her mouth. He recognized that she put her trust and safety in his hands. He wrapped his arms around her. The scarlet eyed soldier remembered how he had not held her since she was an infant, he marveled at how much she grew. How much she resembled her mother.
"It's safe now.," Thurston said softly, "We can go back to your home. It may not be safe out here."
(Y/n) agreed and they quickly made their way back to her home, taking the back ways to avoid people. Their hands gripping together, afraid of letting go and losing each other.
The albino locked the door and she removed her coat and shoes. She did not notice that Thurston was looking at her, observing her shape and curves. He looked at how her hair seemed to shimmer like her mother's did, refracting light that bounced off of it. The man looked away from the girl as she turned around to look at her guest.
"Thurston, I'm going to study a bit.," the young woman told her guard and walked up the stairs to her room.
She sat at her desk and opened the work books to do her homework and study for upcoming tests. She did not hear Thurston follow her. He looked into her room quietly. The man observed how bare it was. He wondered how she would decorate if given the chance.
"(Y/n).," the sudden voice of Thurston scared her, "I was wondering why the house is so bare for being so well built."
"Far wanted us to be able to move quickly if something happened. I wanted to decorate my room with pretty or cute items.," the girl answered, "But it was not to be."
They continued to talk about decorations and varying topics as the girl studied. Their conversation was interrupted by a solid knock on the door. Thurston walked to the window and hid himself out of sight as he peeked out the window.
"Go down and answer the door. Be polite, but be vague.," Thurston said, "That man from before is here."
His statement scared her a bit but she breathed to calm down. She went downstairs and to the door. She peeked outside and saw a blond man. He seemed to be pretty tall. Bright blue eyes framed by glasses and he had fair skin. A little but of hair stood right up. He had a wide grin on his face. He had causal winter clothes on over top a red shirt with a star on it. (Y/n) opened the door and the man broke into an even wider grin. He looked to only be nineteen.
"Hey there! Your dad asked me to check on you, so how are you feeling?," the man asked.
(Y/n) was a bit hesitant, she did not know this man.
"Okay I guess.," the girl answered, "Who are you?"
"Oh crap! I forgot! I'm Alfred!," the young man said and held his hand out, "Your Dad is really cool, I like working with him."
The albino backed up and started to close the door when the man stuck his foot in the door, "Hey! C'mon! I'm not a bad guy! I'm the hero."
"You sound deranged.," (y/n) snapped back, "I don't know you or have any reason to believe you!"
Alfred rifled through his pockets then pulled out a picture, "Your dad said that I'd need to show you this."
She took the picture to look at it. The picture was of her father a several other people, all of them in formal wear. In her father's lap was a toddler (y/n). Alfred stood behind her father with several other men. Her father was sat on a seat, making him look like a king. She noticed some people in the photo that looked like younger and less dangerous versions of Magnus and the others. This spurred her curiosity.
"Believe me now? Your dad was worried about leaving you alone for so long.," The young man smiled and held his hand out to take it back, "I'm glad to see that you've grown up."
The information finally hit her. Alfred was the same age as he was in that picture. Same as Magnus, Loki and Thurston. These men did not seem to age.
"Thank you for coming to check on me, but I need to get back to my studies.," the albino young woman said and returned the picture.
"Hold on, I needed to tell you to be careful as well. We've been getting reports of dangerous people being spotted near here frequently. And there were recent violent crimes.," Alfred explained, "If you want, you can come with me and I'll take you to your father."
(Y/n) shook her head, "I'll be fine. Tak. Be safe getting home."
"Okay. Your dad's return is gonna be delayed a bit, so he should be back by the Monday after next.," Alfred said, "But here, if there is trouble. Call me and I'll come to your rescue!"
The man, who was American by his accent, gave her his number as well as a few other numbers before he left. (Y/n) closed the door and drew curtains. She looked back when she saw movement from Thurston. He had come downstairs and peered out the window to watch Alfred leave.
"He seemed nice, annoying but nice.," (y/n) commented.
Thurston made a small grunt and closed the curtain again. He seemed to be on edge. The man was no longer at ease like he was before. The soldier did not seem to like Alfred. Like he saw him a threat. (Y/n) walked up behind the brunet man and leaned forward to look at him. His face was angry. His eyes looked down to her red-violet ones. He was not much taller than her. Probably the same height as her. Thurston did not look like he was angry at her.
"Are you alright?," the albino asked, "Do you need anything?"
She held her hand out to touch his shoulder, only for him to catch her hand and hold her against him in a tight embrace. She felt him shaking. Was he mad? She returned his embrace.
"There, there. It's okay Thurston.," (y/n) whispered to the brunet, "You're a great guard."
"I don't want to be just a guard.," the man shook, "I want to be her son."
The silvery-white haired teen listened to this plea. She remembered that he mentioned how her mother took him in when he was young. He loved her mother very much then. He was showing his true feelings to the daughter of the woman he cared for and received care from.
The light of the setting sun illuminated the room they were standing in, making it a hue of reds and oranges before the blue hue of night washed over them. The albino noticed the room was not totally dark. The room was lit by some soft light eminating from somewhere. Thurston did not let her go as she looked for the source of light. She caught a glimpse of her hair, glowing softly. How was her hair glowing? Was it somehow connected to her skin shimmer?
While she saw her changes, Thurston continued to murmur rambling sentences, some distinguishable while others were not.
"I envy them. They are sons of hers, while I am but an abomination.," the man shook as he murmured, "I loved her like they did. I love you as well."
(Y/n) felt him tighten his grip on her, like he was scared that she would disappear. She felt like she understood more now. Thurston loved her mother, that is why he was so loyal to her, why he was willing to protect her daughter. But something else caught her ear. He mentioned sons. That meant that (y/n) had brothers. Elder brothers. The young woman ran through her memories to try to remember who resembled her from those old pictures that Loki showed her. Until she came to realize that Magnus resembled her the most. Loki only looked somewhat like her. That other boy in the pictures, Egil, also resembled her. Even more so since they both were albino.
Magnus mentioned that he had a sister that he was searching for, only to say that he finally found her safe later. Were these men her brothers? Long lost family? The albino felt Thurston's body get heavy as he dropped, she used what strength she had to pull him to the couch. His weight caused her to fall onto the cushioned couch beside him.
His scent filled her nose, a mature musk scent. Yet faintly sweet with some bitter tones. She remembered a faint memory of seeing him carrying something while her tiny form tried to keep up with him by crawling after him, before big picked up by someone else.
Thurston's arms still were locked around her as his face was no longer angry looking. He looked peaceful. Almost sweet and cute. The pale skinned girl looked to his face as his scarlet eyes turned to look at her red-violet ones. He did not look dangerous like this. No longer an apex predator or a man who went through combat, but a child. These eyes held the gentle light of a child clinging to hope.
Tears filled his eyes as he spoke, "You look like her, you look like lady Brunhilda."
So that was her mother's name. Thurston raised one of his rough hands and lightly touched the teen's cheek. His scarlet eyes closed as he cried silently. He had to still be mourning Brunhilda's death. His hand never left her cheek and pulled her close again.
"I swear I'll fulfill her last wishes to protect you, (y/n).," The brunet murmured in her ear, "I will. You can come home. You can see what you have missed."
The albino girl reached up and petted the man's hair. It felt very soft and fluffy. Thurston did not seem to mind her touch and even seemed to lean into it even more. He seemed to be relaxed as he breaths got deep and he fell into a restful state. He must have been very stressed to feel that tired. Since he was not letting go, (y/n) got comfortable on Thurston. She closed her eyes and drifted off without eating dinner.
The next morning, she woke up with Thurston's jacket on her and the throw blanket over her legs. Thurston was not with her.
"Thurston?," (y/n) called out and looked around.
The man peeked out from the kitchen, his usual harsh face was back. She wondered if she dreamed of what he said last night. The brunet man looked away from her and returned to cooking. She remembered that her hair had been glowing and walked to the dark bathroom. She closed the door and the room got dark. She shivered as she hated the dark. The blackness of the room faded away as a soft light filled the room. So she did glow. That means that Thurston's ramblings did happen the previous night. The albino girl took a breath and let it out to calm down.
She returned to her room and changed clothes to a new clean outfit. She walked down and took a book out to read before she made coffee. She put the book back when she remembered when she needed to clean after yesterday, she did not get a chance to clean. The girl retrieved a rag and began to wipe down surfaces to clean. She walked into the kitchen and cleaned the equipment. She felt Thurston's prescence and looked over to him as he cooked. His face was gentler and he was smiling. He must have been thinking of something good to be smiling like that.
"Morning Thurston.," (y/n) greeted and walked up behind him.
Thurston looked behind him and made a nod. He continued his cooking task and the girl made coffee. When he finished, he had the table set and the two enjoyed a breakfast together. Thurston was quiet again that morning.
His silence was broken after a while, "I hope I did not say anything that upset you last night. Magnus told me that I tend to act strange when I start falling asleep."
"No, not at all.," the albino replied, "in fact. I thought you were kind of cute."
Thurston did not respond. He only nodded in acknowledgement. (Y/n) talked to him and tried to engage him in conversation through breakfast. He only replied in short sentences and stayed mostly silence. They finished breakfast and cleaned up before cleaning the rest of the house together. Thurston was closer in proximity to her, she noticed. As if he was more comfortable with her.
The brunet held his hand out, "Let's go. We'll take a walk in the woods."
(Y/n) took his hand and nodded. They needed the excercise.
