Chapter Nine
Everyone living together under one roof was beginning to get frustrating. And Natalia had just about had it with Nik and Elijah. They didn't seem to trust Kristof, they continuously tried to make him feel uneasy and wouldn't stop the incessant questioning about the night Natalia was turned. Natalia knew that it was in the Originals nature to question and have some slight paranoia, but by now she had it with them.
She and Kristof decided to spend some time away from the Original family. They figured it was time to have some time just the two of them, like old times. Needless to say Elijah had objected to Natalia going out, but with Kristof by her side she knew she would be okay.
They went to Rousseau's to have some drinks and caught up on each other. With conversation flowing and drinks endless Natalia found herself in what seemed to be the first genuine good time in what felt like years. Being around Kristof had always put her at ease. She could always relax in his presence and it felt good to have her guard down.
"Do you think maybe we should leave the compound?" Kristof asked her.
"And go where?"
Kristof shrugged his shoulders. "Until this is all sorted we could just get an apartment together. That way you won't be alone and have extra protection and I get to be with my best friend."
"Your only friend," she corrected teasingly.
Kristof let out a small laugh. "Point taken." He took another swig of his beer. "But honestly, I'm getting quite annoyed with your friends."
"Yeah, I know; I'll talk to them. And as much as I would want to leave the compound, it's better protected than anywhere else we would go."
"Yes, yes Freya's spell makes the compound practically impenetrable."
Natalia could easily see the frustration on his face of having to be around the Mikaelson family.
"Hey," she took his hand in hers and held it. "As soon as this is over, how about you and me take a trip? Anywhere you want, we'll go."
Kristof was silent for a beat until he spoke again.
"Are you sure you want to do that?"
"What do you mean?"
Kristof rubbed the back of her hand with his thumb.
"You would be able to leave Elijah's side?"
"I'm not standing beside him Kristof, but yes, I would leave. We aren't together, it shouldn't matter."
"It shouldn't, but I think it still does."
Natalia pulled her hand away from his and crossed her arms over her chest.
"He left me Kristof, after everything we went through together, he left."
"Yes, he did, and now you're back in each others lives with unresolved feelings."
Natalia rolled her eyes and scoffed, "Unresolved feelings," she muttered under her breath. "The only thing I've been feeling is anger."
"Really?" He asked, not believing a word she said.
"Yes, really. And you know I don't-" Natalia stopped mid sentence, her sense of smell picking something up.
"You smell that?"
Kristof sniffed the air and looked at Natalia. "Blood, and lots of it."
Natalia and Kristof immediately stood from their seats and headed in the direction of the scent of blood. They opened the back door of Rousseau's and stepped out, the first thing they saw was a body on the floor with the throat ripped out.
"What the hell?" Muttered Kristof.
They rounded the corner and found a vampire feeding on a human. Once the vampire caught sight of the pair he dropped the man to the floor.
"Finally," he stated. "Now the fun can start." The vampire stood tall, his eyes dead set on Natalia.
Kristof stood protectively in front of her. "Get out of here."
The vampire shook his head and chuckled. "No, no, no. You see, I can't leave, not until I have her."
"What do you want?" Natalia attempted to go in front of Kristof but he held out his arm, blocking her from going any further.
"I'm here for you, Natalia," he said darkly. "Should have known you would have a bodyguard with you, nothing I can't handle."
A low growl emitted form Kristof.
The vampire merely laughed, "Here we go."
__________
Natalia and Kristof dragged the unconscious body back to the compound.
"What the hell?" Freya was at the front when she spotted the trio.
"Think we might get some answers out of this one, fancy letting him in so we can ask him nicely?" Kristof said to Freya.
Freya muttered something under her breath then motioned for them to come in.
"I'll get the vervain ropes," she stated going into another room.
"And what might this be?" Niklaus said from the top of the staircase.
"Just a new friend," Natalia said cheekily.
Nik made his way downstairs and took a look at the state the unknown vampire was in.
"Did he attack you?"
"Yes, but as you can see both Kristof and I are fine," Natalia replied with a roll of her eyes.
Nik looked her over discreetly just to be sure she was unharmed.
Freya came back with the rope and Kristof pulled a chair over and Natalia placed the vampire onto it and Freya tied him up.
"Perfect," exclaimed Kristof. "Let's wake him up, shall we?" Kristof then backhanded the unknown vampire, forcing him awake.
"What the hell?" He exclaimed.
"Nice of you to join us," Niklaus stated.
"I'm on vervain, you can't compel me," he immediately said.
"Thanks for sharing," Nik replied bored.
The vampires eyes zoned in on something behind them. Natalia turned around and saw that Elijah and Rebekah had just walked in.
"Great, the more the merrier," Kristof muttered.
"What is this?" Elijah asked.
Natalia rolled her eyes at having to answer the same question.
"Vampire attacked Kristof and I, we're obviously fine. Now we're going to torture him until we find out why."
Rebekah shrugged her shoulders, "Sounds like a fine idea."
Elijah, hearing that they were attacked, immediately went up to Natalia assessing her for injuries. Taking her shoulders in his hands so he cold look her over.
"I'm fine," she repeated, shuffling out of his grip.
"Yeah, Elijah," the vampire interrupted. "Your pretty girlfriend is fine."
Kristof took put a knife from his back pocket and jammed it into the vamps thigh. He hissed in pain and rocked in the chair back and forth.
"Now, who are you and what do you want?" Kristof demanded.
"I'm here for her." The vamp replied, motioning to Natalia.
"Why?"
The vampire only grinned.
"Why?" Elijah took Kristof's knife out and stabbed him again, making him scream.
"You'll find out soon enough."
Natalia was growing impatient. She sped upstairs to Freya's workspace and grabbed vervain she kept. Holding just the stem, careful not to touch too much of it she went back downstairs and held his head as she held the vervain against his cheek. She was sure his screams could be heard form outside the compound.
"What do you want with me?"
He still wouldn't answer, so Natalia started shoving the vervain into his mouth, forcing him to choke it down. The Mikaelson's only stared in surprise; Kristof looking more amused.
"Okay! Okay!" He sputtered. "I was supposed to take you!"
"Where?" Klaus asked.
"I don't know, I would receive instructions once I had her."
"Who sent you?" Rebekah asked.
"Because I would tell you," he scoffed. "They're coming for her, and none of you will be ale to stop what's to come. They're coming for her, but she's not all they're after. The vampire looked at Klaus smugly. "How's your daughter, Klaus?"
Klaus's face registered surprise, then quickly changed to anger and charged at him. Taking his throat in his hand. "You dare speak of my daughter?"
"You thought she would be safe?" He croaked. "You thought wrong, none of you will be safe."
Before he could get another word out his eyes went wide and let out a gasp. Behind him Natalia held is heart in her hand. "No one threatens my family and lives."
