Chapter Twenty-three: Hunted

Luca's POV

I was out of breath and stared down at my poor mate who was sweating and shaking in pain due to her deep cut which was getting infected. We had made it back to the Packhouse at the crack of dawn because of my determination to make sure Diana was safe. I had run- no hauled my f*cking ass- to get back to the Pack.

"We made it. You'll be just fine, I am not going anywhere," I reassured myself more than Diana.

The front door opened revealing Aiden, Alex, and Daniel with large bags on their broad shoulders along with silver knives glued to each of their sides. Alex immediately dropped everything and rushed to my aid with no hesitation. I let out a small sigh of relief and Alex tried his best to take Diana out of my arms.

A low snarl thundered out of my body when he attempted to take her out of my hold. I didn't want to let her go for anyone or anything, but my body physically was giving out. Daniel soon followed Alex to make sure I didn't show my frustration through my actions.

"Dude, you got to let her go. Trust me, you look like absolute shit and by the looks of it you don't have another damn step in you."

I glared into his eyes seeing the scars on his neck and eye from 18 years ago that Xavier had left. My gaze softened a tiny bit and I slowly slid Diana out of my arms into Alex's. He rushed her into the house with me trailing closely behind him.

"What is going on? What the hell happened?" Blake was soon in front of me checking to see if I was alright.

"Where is Luna Queen?" Blake asked.

I saw his anxiety raise through the roof as he looked everywhere to see where Diana was until finally, he saw her laying on the couch.

"Call the Pack Doctor. NOW!" I ordered angrily.

No one questioned anything and made sure to get the Pack Doctor here as fast as they possibly could. I jogged to the couch and carried Diana for a moment before settling myself on the couch with her in my hold.

My hand wiped the small strands of black hair out of her face and she moved more into my touch. I didn't even notice the Pack Doctor who was inches away from Diana and me, standing tall in front of both of us.

"Alpha, where is the wound?"

I tried to control my anger and Jay's need to make us shift. Her wound was in a very private and delicate area that it was very difficult for me to let him see it. I basically forced myself to get rid of the tattered shirt that was covering her wound. The Pack Doctor's breath hitched in his throat and he kneeled down staring at the wound longer than needed.

"Are you going stare at your Luna Queen lustfully with me here or are you going to save her damn life?" I growled.

He shook his head quickly tossing his medical bag on the floor grabbing a needle. My attention was turned to Diana's large cut and I could see it starting to become infected quickly. The Pack Doctor grabbed a wipe and put some rubbing alcohol onto it.

"I am going to clean her wound to prevent any bacteria and germs to get into it."

As soon as his hand was near her breast I snatched the piece of loose cloth out of his hand and began rubbing the cut gently myself. I understood that he was trying to do his job, but this jealousy raging into my body made it very difficult to do anything, and now that Diana was hurt...my natural instinct of becoming more protective than usual was bound to happen.

"It is very deep. Nearly could have killed her if it went any deeper. You need to let me stitch up the cut." He replied trying to stay as calm as possible.

He put the silk thread through the eye of the needle and tied the end off. I tried to calm myself down and held my hand on top of her breast, covering her nipple and excess flesh except for the large cut. The Pack Doctor slowly rested the needle onto her toffee skin exhaling slowly. In moments Diana screamed loudly on the top of her lungs gripping onto my arm tightly. Her fingers dug into my forearm. The doctor continued to stitch up the cut as best as he was able too.

"STOP, YOU'RE KILLING HER!" I roared out loudly trying to stop him from hurting her anymore.

She let out another scream, yelling my name. I only could wish to take her away from all of this pain my love was utterly feeling. I rested my forehead against hers with my eyes closed in an attempt to get the horrible image of her in absolute pain out of my head.

"Alpha, you need to move out of the way, I am unable to work like this!" The doctor directed.

I listened to him and my eyes darkened when he ordered me to do something. I shoved him out of the way before holding Diana closer to my chest trying to see if she was okay.

"I won't let him hurt you, I won't let him hurt you," I muttered quietly as I cradled her back and forth in my arms.

Daniel stood in front of the doctor helping him off the floor then gave me a look of disappointment. He had no right to look at me like that, he didn't understand how much PAIN I was going through just looking at Diana in her condition.

Daniel's attention flickered to behind me and I turned my head to feel Aiden punch me in the face. I growled in pain, dropping Diana off of the couch. Daniel caught her before she injured herself more while I held my now bleeding nose.

It was the last straw and soon enough my canines grew with my claws following shortly after.

"Oh, shit," Aiden whispered then sprinted to his bedroom.

I followed him ready to get payback. My nose hurt and my frustration wasn't helping at all. I made it into Aiden's room and was suddenly confused when he was nowhere to be seen.

"I'm sorry Luca!" He apologized behind me then slammed the bedroom door shut blocking it with something.

My breathing was staggered and my fists pounded heavily on the weak door that was a barrier from letting me see Diana. I howled until my throat couldn't handle it anymore.

"LET ME OUT OF HERE! I AM GOING TO KILL YOU! ALL OF YOU MUTTS!"

I stopped for a little bit feeling my throat become raw from all of my screamings, I was also trying to prevent tears to form at the brim of my eyes. I sniffled harshly and slammed my head into the door letting out a small cry.

The strong smell of other humans entered my senses, it wasn't the boys. Their scents had become different when they 'technically' joined the pack years ago. No, the smell was new, it was fresh, but it was also similar.

"Why are there dozens of men and women outside with guns strapped to every inch of their bodies?" I heard Aiden asked no one in particular fearfully.

My eyes widened when I realized what was happening.

"EVERYBODY GET DOWN!" My voice echoed.

Everything seemed to happen in the blink of an eye when a loud booming sounded outside of the Packhouse shaking the ground beneath us. I instinctively crouched to the ground.

I could only assume the others had done the same. My shoulder slammed into the door hundreds of times until finally, it broke down. A rope was tied on the handle with the door across from me.

Smart bastard.

The front door was still open and I knew I was too far to close it.

"CLOSE THE DOOR!" I exclaimed loudly.

Hundreds of bullets lit up the house as Aiden and Alex slammed the door shut while covering their heads and ducking down. They continued to cover the door when someone from the outside tried to force the door open by slamming themselves into it.

"LUCA THE DOOR ISN'T GOING TO HOLD MUCH LONGER!" Alex shouted harshly still trying his best to keep the Hunters from getting in.

His feet slid on the slippery floor maintaining his grip with Aiden next to him in the same problem. Daniel covered Diana in a protective manner as the Pack Doctor tried his best to keep working under the harsh circumstances.

I could initially feel Diana's lungs and throat burn as she let out another cry of pain. The pack doctor grew his canines, snipping off the last bit of the thread and falling onto the floor beside the coffee table.

Daniel slowly released his hold from Diana dragging himself and her behind the couch to avoid any gunshot wounds.

There were hundreds of howls from outside indicating James was fighting off the enemy with our best warriors. I went outside to the backyard and making my way to the front of the house seeing humans and my pack members being slaughtered left and right.

I caught James slamming his foot into the head of one of the hunters before giving me a nod and continuing his job. Blake was a few feet away pushing off a woman who held a gun close to his head. Frankie used one of the dead bodies off of the ground as a shield from any more bullets coming his way with Monica fighting right behind him.

Another deep roar forcefully left me and I joined the fight, killing as many of these bastards as I could. Someone tackled me to the ground. A hunter put me into a chokehold cutting off my oxygen supply. He let out a greedy laugh which soon disappeared when a large knife dug into his back. He fell on top of me causing me to shove him off.

Lena gave me a smirk with a small wink then slaughtered more men and women who had broken into our home. In the corner of my eye, Brady appeared out of the trees with Mia close behind him. He saw the chaos and soon enough he shifted into his large wolf attacking anyone who got close to Mia. Mia pulled Diana's large knife out holding it out in front of her as she slowly crept her way to the Packhouse.

She saw me on the floor and made her way to me.

"UNCLE LUCA!"

I sat up from the ground feeling her in my arms giving me a sigh of relief knowing she was safe. I had regretted not thinking about her well-being. I was so stressed out about Diana that Mia had slipped out of my mind. I had failed as an uncle.

My lips touched the top of her head as I gave her a small feathered peck while holding her head. She helped me up and off of the ground which I was eternally grateful for at the moment.

"Mia! Stand behind me!" I instructed her.

She took a step back with her back touching mine as the knife was held near and dear to her chest. I dug my claws into the hunter in front of me pulling his weak heart out of his chest before crushing it into my hands. Mia squealed a tiny bit and I heard a blade slicing through something.

My head turned around so fast I thought it would have come off. Luckily, it wasn't my head that was detached from my body. I looked at the ground to see a female body with her head a few feet away from her.

Mia gasped loudly dropping the knife on the floor and falling to her knees. She killed her.

"Mia, you need to get up, NOW!" I tried to tell her.

She just stared blankly at the woman she cold-bloodily murdered in front of her.

It seemed like decades had passed of absolute madness and chaos until finally all the hunters were killed. Brady's wolf-headed towards where Mia and I were and he stood next to her whimpering. She was in a state of shock.

Blake was by my side in a mere second.

"What...the the hell...JUST HAPPENED!?!" He asked me loudly.

I looked at everyone around me who was waiting patiently for an answer.

"Hunters."

Everyone stayed quiet for a moment trying to process what I had just said. As soon as Blake was about to speak one last gunshot rang through the air. James fell to the floor holding his thigh with a grunt. Lena turned around to see a female hunter laying on the floor with a small pistol in her hand.

"You-"

Lena almost sunk her kitchen knife of a weapon into the woman's skull I had stopped her.

"NO, DON'T. She lives and we will get information out of her." I said.

Lena slowly moved the weapon away from the head of walnut brown hair. The front door full of bullet holes creaked open.

"L-L-Lu-ca." My mate's voice rang through the air.

My body stiffened at her low voice and I saw her fall to the ground reaching out for me. I raced my way to her and held her so close to me. If anyone even came near her, I would tear their heads off with no regrets.

"I'm here darling," I mumbled into her ear, kissing the side of her face multiple times.

"Luca, what is happening? Who are these people, these hunters?" Aiden's voice soon spoke.

"They are bad people, we not only found Xavier's body but the body of nearly hundreds of werewolves. Those from our Pack, our neighboring packs, and even rogues," said Brady.

I saw that he was shifted back with his hand on Mia's back. She didn't move from where she was as her hands covered her innocent face.

"Even Theo,"

I squeezed my eyes shut at his name tightening my hold on Diana ever so lightly. Alex took a seat next to me and Daniel kneeled next to a dead body, observing it.

My fury was growing more and more, it was bubbling at the edge waiting to finally explode.

"They messed with the wrong Pack," I growled.

Everyone's eyes were soon on me, waiting for me to say something else. Anything else. I kept quiet, leaving my family with hundreds of questions roaming through their heads.

Little did they know that the threat wasn't Brady's mother, it was the SHADOWHUNTERS and we were the first on their list to be hunted.
