Chapter Twenty-five: Knots

Mia's POV

"Mia! Your dad is on the phone!" Uncle Luca called out for me in his office.

I took one last bite of my sandwich then jogged up to the office to speak to my father after what seemed like years. I snatched the phone out of Uncle Luca's hands bringing it to my ear to hear the soothing voice of my Dad.

"Dad?"

"Hey, Sweet pea! How are you? Are you doing okay?" Dad's voice made my muscles relax in seconds. I knew they were safe and made it back home alive.

"Yes! I'm fine. How's Mom? Did you guys make it back safe?" I wondered.

"Yes, we did. Your mom is doing okay, she misses you so much. I miss you so much,"

A frown formed on my face when he said those words. I truly missed them as well.

"I miss you too."

"Alright darlin', can you give the phone back to your Luca? Fortunately, with Matt's help, we made it home without any complications."

Wait a minute. Matt went with them? I handed the phone back to Uncle Luca with confusion as to why he let Matt go back home with my family. I didn't trust me much and knowing that he was with my mom and dad made my stomach tie up in knots.

Frankie's POV

"Alright, are you ready?" Aiden asked me while grabbing a bag full of a small arsenal.

Alpha had asked Aiden, Daniel, and I to go interrogate the chick who decided to shoot our gamma. We head to the cells that had absolutely no one but the woman who ambushed our damn pack. I was pissed that these humans honestly believed that we were the bad guys.

We soon faced her. She was chained up to the wall in the farthest cell that had nothing but some light from the slight cracks in the walls. Daniel had decided to keep the entrance door open to add more light to the dark hellhole.

"Frankie, hold this."

Aiden tossed the bag to me then wrapped his hands around the cell bars slowly sliding them open. He rushed to the girl to unlock her hands from the chains.

"What are you doing?" I was puzzled that he was basically giving her a free pass to hurt us and run.

"I am going to get these off of you, but you have to do whatever I say. They will kill you if you don't." Aiden ignored me and told the girl what to do.

He whistled at Daniel while snapping his fingers causing Daniel to stand inches away from the two of them. Aiden nodded at Daniel and glanced at the bag in my hands.

Daniel rummaged through the bag in my hands pulling out a bottle of water and some sort of food that was covered in foil. He tossed them to Aiden with ease who caught them seconds before they could hit the cement floor.

The girl nodded slowly with fearful eyes trying to understand what was going on and why we were being so nice to her. To be honest, I was wondering the same damn thing. Aiden unwrapped the foil from the food revealing a plain turkey sandwich then proceeded to open the water bottle for her.

"Please, eat."

She took the sandwich out of his hands biting into it quickly letting out a small moan when she finally got some food in her stomach. Aiden stood up trailing his way back out of the cell then shut it once again.

"What's your name?" He asked politely.

She swallowed harshly then let out a shaky breath trying to comprehend what was happening.

"My, my name?"

"Yes, your name!" Daniel yelled.

Aiden put a hand up to calm him down, he nodded once in her direction waiting patiently for her to answer.

"Kaylin, Kaylin Roberts." Her voice was quiet and she tried her best to keep a straight face as she spoke.

"Well Kaylin, my name is Aiden. These two are Daniel and Frankie, welcome to the Woods Pack." He gave her a welcome.

We weren't really getting anywhere so I decided to speak this time trying to get some answers out of her. It seemed like Aiden was starting to get a crush on her due to the way I could hear his heartbeat rise when he spoke to her.

"Kaylin, we just need some answers and if you answer them well enough...we will let you go. If you don't then you won't be going anywhere. Who are you people and why are you trying to kill us? Where are you all from?"

Aiden gave me a small smile of approval when he noticed that I was trying my best to be as kind as possible to her.

She shut her eyes then opened them. I saw guilt and regret flood them like a tsunami making me feel a pinch of pity for her like I said...just a pinch of pity.

"We are hunters, to kill those-those monsters. You guys are like them, aren't you? You guys are those monsters?"

"No, Aiden and I are fully human. Frankie on the other hand is..." Daniel started.

"A monster," Kaylin finished.

I felt a pang of hurt in my heart when she called us monsters. I didn't think we were monsters at all, we haven't done anything wrong or at least I didn't think we did. Sure, we have killed here and there but it was because they were trying to kill us. Self-defense, right?

"No, as I recall your people are the ones who came and attacked our home when we have done absolutely nothing wrong. So I think you are the monsters," Aiden defended me.

Kaylin looked down with guilt then swallowed the bile that rose up to her throat back down trying to find something else to say, instead she just took the heat and agreed.

"We are all over the world, this whole thing is run by a man who wants to make sure that every single one of you is gone from this earth. It started years ago, way before I was born. A couple of years ago is when we found out that there some here, in Colorado. My group was told to search California, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and Oregon. We have successfully killed all of them in three of those states. I was quite surprised when we weren't able to kill you all."

Holy shit. They had slaughtered packs from other states and knowing that information made my blood boil so hot that I could burst. What they didn't know is that the Alpha King who was in charge of Alphas all around the damn globe was located here. There was no way in hell they were going to get rid of him any time soon.

"Which states?" Aiden sneered.

"I don't know I-"

"WHICH STATES?!?" Aiden yelled at this time.

Kaylin flinched a tiny bit but truthfully answered his question, "Oregon, California...Utah,"

Aiden rubbed his temples in stress while Daniel's mouth was open in awe when he realized they had brutally murdered werewolves in their home state. I could tell it was eating Aiden up knowing that he would have been able to stop them, could have saved all of those innocent lives.

"Who runs this? What is his name?"

Kaylin sighed giving up, she knew that if she didn't answer there was no way in hell we would let her out. She put the half-eaten sandwich down on the cement.

"His name is Michael. His location changes very often, all I know is that if he finds out that we didn't successfully kill you all here...he is going to come here and make sure to kill you himself. Trust me, you don't want to mess with this guy." She warned us.

"We need to tell Alpha about this as soon as possible. There is no way in hell he is going to let this slide," I told the boys before having a hard gaze on Kaylin, "you're lucky it was us who came to speak to you...if it wasn't, you would've been dead by now."

Daniel nodded in agreement grabbing the bag out of my hands making my arms fall in relief. I never realized how heavy it was until my arms became numb and flew to my sides in an instant.

"Why are you guys being so nice to me? I came here and tried to hurt you all, but here you are feeding me food..."

"Because if we did what you all did to us, how are we any better?" Aiden responded before stepping out of the cells with us following him closely behind.

Mia's POV

I sat on the steps in front of the Packhouse watching pack members I have never seen in my life walking around and having a good time. There were little kids running around playing tag while their mothers and fathers were sitting on the ground eating food.

They seemed so...normal like they weren't werewolves. Frankie, Uncle Aiden, and Uncle Daniel came into the picture as they slowly made their way back to where I was. They waved at me slightly giving me goofy grins trying to be as optimistic as possible.

"Hey, there kiddo! How are you?" Uncle Daniel asked me as he ruffled my hair all over the place.

I puffed out a breath of air whacking his arm away from me making an attempt to fix my hair that was now knotted and sticking to my face.

"I'm fine,"

My uncles had walked inside but Frankie stayed behind taking a seat next to me quietly. I turned my head to him resting my chin on his shoulder continuing to watch the little kids have a great time. It was hard for me to not worry about Brady and every single one of my thoughts went back to him, everything reminded me of him. I hated that I was sitting here like a lost puppy doing nothing when he was out there risking his life avoiding hunters and well...rogues.

Frankie pulled me into a side hug resting his head on mine.

"Long time no see dude," He said.

I laughed a bit.

"Yeah, with everything going on, we've both been busy making sure our family doesn't die."

"Ha, yeah,"

"So, how did the interrogating go?" I wanted to know how it went and if I was able to help in any way.

"It went good. It was pretty easy actually, she gave the answers the first time we asked which was nice...a little suspicious but nice. I think Aiden is liking her a little too much, as soon as we walked in there he fed her and was being so kind..."

That's not good especially if she was the enemy, Uncle Aiden knew better than to have an affair with the person we were supposed to be held captive to help us get rid of the bigger threat. I knew that if Aunt Diana found out then we would be in a much bigger problem than we already are in.

"Huh." It was all I said.

"So...how are you and Brady?" Frankie asked me with a slight pang of hurt in his voice,

I was soon out of his side hug just looking at the trees in front of us this time. Brady and I were doing great, my love for him grew every second of every single f*cking day. He was my rock, my shield and I couldn't help but think about how my life was before. It was hard to picture Brady out of my life and thinking that there was a point in time I didn't even know of his existence. If I never snuck out of my house and went on that plane...would I have ever met him the way that I did?

"We are doing great, I'm a little worried about him going back to talk to his mom though, luckily James and Uncle Alex went with him,"

"He's strong and I know for a fact that he will make sure to make it back to you. I could smell your change of scent from miles away, he marked you didn't he?" Frankie was starting to get jealous but I didn't understand why. He knew that Brady was my mate and there was no chance of me being with him.

"He did. My scent is now the scent of a rogue which is the only problem...and we can't be a part of the pack until we get rid of those hunters. It was one of the reasons why he didn't let me go with him, it was too dangerous."

"Yeah, I would've done the same thing,"

Monica walked out of the Packhouse to bring us back inside.

"Come inside, we are going to have a meeting soon. Alpha called Alpha Leo, Alpha Derek, and Alpha Zander to come over. Get some food now because it might be some time before we eat again."

Frankie stood up and held a hand out for me, I grabbed it getting ready for the longest meeting I have ever been in.
