Chapter Twenty-eight: Betrayal
Mia's POV
The Pack was so empty without anyone here except for Uncles Daniel, Alex, and Aiden along with Brady and I. There was not much we could do but worry our asses off for our families who were sacrificing their lives to make sure our Packs would remain standing after all of this. I took this time to explore and noticed many things I hadn't before.
Did you know Aunt Diana and Uncle Luca had a patio coming out of their bedroom? Because I am sure as hell didn't. I made it deeper into the pack seeing werewolves walking around like it was a regular day like nothing was happening. It was crazy to know that I had never even known about all of this because Mom and Dad never wanted me to find out.
There was a road that was lined up with houses making it look like a small town, it seemed as if we weren't even in the forest at this point, the only proof was the trees that surrounded the houses and the earthly ground.
"Mia!" I heard someone call for me.
My hand went up to my heart as soon as I turned around flinching at the sudden appearance of Uncle Daniel. He pulled me into a side hug messing my hair up with a noogie. I tried to force myself out of his hold smacking his chest as a joke.
He finally released me laughing so loud the birds flew away from the trees. He fixed his own dark blonde hair pushing it back off of his forehead.
"Come on! Uncle Aiden made some pasta, you must be starving," He linked his arm with mine starting to lead us back to the Packhouse. He was right, I was absolutely hungry. Ever since I had come to the Woods Pack I hardly ate anything and my slim figure just seemed to thin out more than it already was. Dad always said I needed to add some meat onto my bones but Mom usually smacked him in the head telling him it was better than getting his sausage-like thumbs.
"Pasta sounds so good right now, any chance he made his famous garlic bread?"
Uncle Daniel winked putting his head closer to mine, "You know it," He whispered.
Once we made it back to the Packhouse I stepped on my heel taking off my first shoe then doing the same with the other. The door was still full of bullet holes leaving small rays of sunlight to make its way into the house. Uncle Daniel went into the kitchen dramatically kicking the door open.
"Damn, I am so f*cking hungry!" He exclaimed.
Brady skipped down the stairs wearing the same sweats he'd worn for the past two days and the yellow sweatshirt he had given me on the plane ride which felt like forever ago. I hid behind the staircase watching him inhale the air. He knew I was near looking around to see where I was. Once his back was facing me I pounced on him jumping on his back.
I laughed so loud when he almost fell face first but caught himself gripping his hands on the back of my thighs. I could see his smile grow when he heard my laugh.
"What are you doing?" He asked me.
I just clung onto his back snuggling into him and pointed to the kitchen door, "Let's eat some pastaaaa," I sang off-key.
I hadn't felt this happy in so long but everything just felt...right at this moment like I was on my high never wanting to come down. Everything just seemed so perfect at this exact moment. I was with the people I loved, well most of them and we were finally going to have a normal dinner together.
"Alright babe, let's go eat pasta." He giddily said.
We are in the kitchen and the vibe changed as fast as it came. Kaylin was sitting in the last chair across the dining table with her hair in a ponytail. She looked like she took a shower and I burned my eyes into her clothes seeing they weren't the same as before.
I slowly slid off of Brady's back shaking my head.
"What is she doing here?" Brady grumbled,
Uncle Aiden turned his body away from the stove noticing our sudden presence. He wiped his hands on his loose jeans and pulled out a chair for himself to sit next to our unexpected guest. Uncle Daniel was surprised as well his mouth open in awe when Uncle Aiden held Kaylin's hand.
I could feel smoke wanting to come out of my ears when I saw her, Brady violently dragged the chair next to Uncle Aiden into the open taking a seat without saying anything else. The pads of my feet tapped on the cold tiles till I took a seat on Brady's lap keeping my mouth shut too.
The kitchen door slammed open so hard it ricocheted off of the wall swinging back and forth in a fast motion. Uncle Alex raised an eyebrow pointing his finger between Kaylin and Uncle Aiden prior to raising his hand indicating he didn't want to know.
Uncle Alex sat next to me and Uncle Daniel just stood by the kitchen counter leaning against it.
"Kaylin is going to be eating dinner with us," He gave a grim smile to each of us, "Let's say grace shall we?"
I folded my hands on the table and Brady covered my hands with his closing his eyes. I kept my eyes open making sure my gaze burned holes in Kaylin's skull. She gave me a bad feeling and I didn't like the way she was with Uncle Aiden.
"Dear Lord, we thank you here today for letting us have good food with good people. I pray that you watch over Luca and Diana as they try to end all of this and I pray that we all can meet each other without any complications, In your name,"
"Amen," We all said simultaneously.
I picked up steel fork stabbing a piece of pasta in the plate that was in front of Brady and I. He grabbed another fork sharing the same plate as we ate. This was the most awkward dinner I have had and trust me when I say, I've had some pretty awkward dinners.
My dad had found me sneaking out one day with nothing but my phone and card. It was almost 10:30 PM and I assumed they were asleep. Unfortunately, I got busted for trying to go to a college party my ex-best friend invited me too. Dad insisted on driving me there and made sure every college boy knew I was off-limits. The next day we had dinner and I had to explain the whole thing to Mom.
"So, Mia, Aiden has told me that you go to Ridgeview High School in Utah? That's funny, my great grandmother graduated from there." Kaylin tried to start a conversation.
I stopped chewing the pasta in my mouth swallowing so hard it hurt...Ha, that's what she said. It surprised me to see that she wasn't as afraid as hours before, it was suspicious. I hummed in response scrunching my nose slightly.
Kaylin smirked her facial features showing that she was hiding something from all of us. Uncle Alex noticed too causing him to slowly pull the gun out from the back of his pant laying it in his lap out of her sight. He nodded at me and I nodded back.
"What about you Brady? It must be hard knowing your mom is the bad guy in all of this, I mean how do you handle falling in love with the big bad Alpha King's niece and not get punished for it from either party?"
I made a fist around the fork biting my tongue to stop myself from barking rude remarks towards her. Brady growled quietly just enough for me to hear squeezing my thighs holding back the urge to shift. What the f*ck was she trying to do?
"Yo, Aiden I would tell your girl to shut up right now," Uncle Daniel warned placing his plate full of pasta down on the kitchen counter behind him.
He could tell she was attempting to make Brady absolutely pissed and that would not be good.
"What? I'm just being honest...right Aiden?" Kaylin said with an innocent voice.
Aiden didn't know what to do, so he silently agreed to try his best to be as politely as possible.
"Are you seriously going to let her talk about Brady like that?" Uncle Alex defended us.
"No, no she's right. I am surprised that no one reacted negatively towards Brady. He did try to kill Luca..."
I scoffed, "Uncle Aiden, would you listen to yourself? You are defending this...tramp who not only attacked the Pack but SHOT James!" My attention was now on Kaylin, "I know what you are trying to f*cking do."
Kaylin pouted at me tilting her head to the side a bit. Her elbows were on the table which held her head.
"What am I trying to do? Hmm?"
I planted my feet on the floor standing with my weight resting in my arms that were gripping the edge of the dining table.
"Mia," Brady warned trying to make me sit back down.
"No, she has no right to talk about you like that. Not while I am around," I argued.
"I don't think I've said anything wrong. I am just saying the truth, something that you all need to realize. These animals have gotten into your heads. They aren't what you think they are," Kaylin explained.
"Shut the hell up. You come here and mess everything up! Do you really think you are making a difference by slaughtering innocent men and women? Think again," My teeth were pushed against one another my words spilling out of my mouth like poison.
She scoffed licking her dry lips taking her head off of her hands., "Men and women...more like monsters and murderers,"
Okay, that's it. I flung myself nearly across the table trying to strangle her except Brady's arms wrapping around my waist didn't help much. Uncle Aiden stood up trying to stop me while Uncles Alex and Daniel watched everything happening. She gripped onto her fork glaring at me,
"Fine, have it your way,"
The fork met Uncle Aiden's hand piercing through it leaving him to holler curse words out of pain. Uncle Alex pulled his gun ready to shoot but she dodged it pushing his arm so the gun pointed towards Uncle Daniel. A bullet left the gun grazing Uncle Daniel's arm causing him to fall to the ground at the sudden action. I held my plate full of pasta throwing it at her hitting her in the head. She backed away startled at the glass plate breaking due to the impact.
Brady stood up roaring with his claws and canines ready to draw blood. His hazel eyes clouded with yellow lunging toward Kaylin. She bent down crawling under the dining table making it out of the other side. The gun that Uncle Alex dropped was only a few inches away from where she was. Her hands clasped around it before she escaped the kitchen. I followed her watching as she went towards the same direction the Pack warriors went.
My eyes widened when I registered what was happening. It was her. There was no Michael. She was the head hunter. I sprinted so fast that I tripped over my feet a couple of times.
"MIA! WAIT!" Brady shrieked.
I turn my head stopping for only a second, "IT'S HER BRADY, THERE IS NO MICHAEL, IT'S HER. SHE IS AFTER UNCLE LUCA! IT WAS A TRAP!"
I didn't even wait for Brady to say anything as I continued to follow her in the forest. Brady yelled for me to stop but I didn't, it only made me go faster. My arms were pumping back and forth harshly.
"GO! WE'LL TAKE CARE OF EVERYTHING HERE!" Uncle Alex yelled to Brady.
Brady was next to me in only a couple of minutes, he picked me up groaning loudly as he sped up to run at an unreasonable speed. There was no way they would have made it far if it was all a trap.
"Brady! Look over there!"
Hundred of dead wolves laid on the ground making it look like a huge battle scene. There weren't any hunters, it was wolf vs wolf, our kind versing one another. They definitely didn't make it far at all. I saw the Rogues ruthlessly slaughtering our warriors and vice versa. Karissa was in the middle fighting off Alpha Derek.
Brady dropped me onto my feet making his way into the battle scene defending our members. Mt head was on a swivel hoping to see Aunt Diana and Uncle Luca. They weren't anywhere to be seen. Something hard hit my head making me hiss in pain holding the area that was now injured. Kaylin pointed the gun at me. I raised my hands up in the air.
"Kaylin, don't do this," I told her calmly.
When I took a step forward she took a step back. My shoulder burned when she shot me making me drop to the ground holding onto the gunshot wound. I pulled my sleeve down to see the bullet luckily went through.
That one gunshot made all hell break loose. Hunters appeared out of the trees lighting up anything they saw that moved. Our Pack warriors attacked them getting rid of a few hunters before worrying about the rogues that were still after them. Brady eliminated a few hunters on his own too distracted to notice me.
Kaylin pulled me off of the ground then pointed the gun under my jaw her left arm having a death grip around me.
"SHOW YOURSELF ALPHA KING OR I WILL BLOW HER BRAINS OUT!" Kaylin taunted my uncle.
Two men turned around showing the faces of my uncle and my mate. Uncle Luca looked so angry even I was afraid of him. Brady snarled rushing his way to me. I shook my head telling them to stay put, I couldn't have them dying especially not now.
I head-butted Kaylin moving the gun down to her abdomen then shot three bullets. She gasped her eyes gleaming with tears. I dropped her like dead weight throwing the gun a few feet away from her then hauled ass into the bloodbath.
Uncle Luca took a rifle out of a hunter's hand tossing it to me before gauging his poor eyes out leaving him to suffer blindly. I caught it with ease aiming it at the head of a rogue that was inches away from me. His body hit the floor in an instant when a hole was created into his head. Thank God, for Dad taking me hunting duck. Yes, they weren't ducks, but my aim was so much better and I knew how to use guns because of him. I'll make sure to thank him later.
I ran near a tree hiding behind it taking out the magazine to see how many bullets I had left. Damn it, only four. The clicking sound of it going back into the gun let me know that it was ready to shoot again. I kneeled down near the tree stump looking through the scope to shoot my next victim. My breathing slowed for a bit and I pulled the trigger shooting a female hunter through the chest. I put the rifle down getting ready to reload it again when my eyes saw something horrific.
There was some vomit that came up to my throat that I had to force back down my eyes burning at the salty water wanting to release from them. I threw the rifle to the ground recognizing Aunt Diana laying against a tree not moving at all. Oh God no.
"Aunty!" I sobbed hugging her blood-drenched figure trying to do something. Anything.
My pointer finger and middle finger plunged into the side of her neck hoping to find a pulse. I breathe out in relief when I find a small pulse. A sharp pain runs through my arm that had been shot but I could care less. My fists tightened around her shirt yanking her off of the tree stump and putting her onto the ground.
I slid off my shirt tying it around her stomach as a makeshift bandage to stop the bleeding. I saw that her...err...boob was slit open so I took off my pants leaving me only in my bras and panties. They tore easily when I used excess force and tied it around her boob. This would have stopped the bleeding a tiny bit.
There was too much going on and I needed to find a way to stop it before anyone else gets hurt.
