Chapter Seventeen: Restless

Mia's POV

James and Frankie walk to us and stand a few feet in front of Brady and me. The only encounter I had with James was when the rogues attacked the pack, but we never spoke to one another. Brady is soon out of my hold and shakes James's hand.

"Gamma James,"

They nod at each other in a professional manner and absolute respect. I give a small smile to James and he gives one back.

"Mia, what are you doing out here? Alpha won't be too happy knowing you are out there. Anyway, what did you all need? As you can tell I am in a bit of a busy situation of training our finest warriors for any other future attacks like last one." said James.

"Well, Xavier's body has been found and Luca needs some assistance from you and your mate," Brady speaks.

James clears his throat with shock and looks back at the warriors. He turns his head to face us once more before jogging to the hundreds of werewolves.

"Warriors of the Wood's Pack! I shall put Frankie, son of Beta Blake, and Beta Monica in charge of the rest of your training today. There has been something urgent that has come up!" He shouts.

"Wait what?" Frankie said confused.

James sprints back to us and winks at Frankie then glares at Brady.

"I do not think Alpha would like it if Mia was left alone with many mate less wolves, and I certainly do not trust Brady to be near the warriors. You are my only choice, you have seen me train them before anyway. So, you are in charge. Mia, Brady, let's go back to my house. Lena should be there working."

Frankie scoffs then blows a small raspberry as the rest of us make out way to a small hut that is a few minutes away from where we stood.

We make it there in no time and the small house is beautiful. It is blue with large windows illuminating the walls of the entire home. There are large wood and metallic doors in the front and side of the house which shone brightly in the sunlight.

James opened the front door of his house and I walked in right after with Brady trailing in like a lost puppy. I gasped when I saw many pictures hanging all over the yellow-painted walls including wedding pictures, baby pictures, and even pictures of...me.

"Lena!" James calls out for his mate.

We follow closely until we make it into a small living room with no T.V. but instead a large bookcase replacing it. A large leather couch is in the middle of the room and I take a seat on it. Brady continues to stand by the open doorway that leads into the living room. He leans on the frames and looks at the room intently.

"Lena?" James calls out again.

Finally, a woman with beautiful brown skin and short brown hair walks into the living room. She jumps into James's arms and leaves a small feathered kiss on his cheek.

"What are you doing home early? I haven't even started cooking yet, I just came back from the Packhouse visiting Diana."

Her light brown eyes light up when she notices my presence. Her jaw opens a bit and she tries to find words but seems to be tongue-tied.

"J-James?" She looks shocked and points to me, "Is it really who I think it is? Is that Mia?"

She begins to tear up and rushes to give me a big hug. I could sense a wave of relief washing over her when I was soon in her arms. James has a small smile on his face when he sees the strong embrace his mate was giving me.

"I-I thought I was going crazy when the rogue attack happened. I thought I saw you but I didn't think of it to be true. How in the hell did you get here?"

"Lena, maybe we should avoid stressing her out and bombarding her with any more questions. She has already been through so much. They are here in an important manner." James suggests.

I appreciated his gesture of making sure I didn't feel more stressed than I already was. Lena nudges me to sit on the couch and points to the seat next to me. Her vision is now on Brady and he snaps her fingers together while continuing to point to the seat.

"Please, sit. Both of you. Let's get down to business."

Diana's POV

I put on my boots and zip up my jacket then turn around to see Luca. A hand flies to my heart to stop the sudden pounding that began.

"Luca! You scared me!"

He laughed a tiny bit but soon stopped when he saw that I was ready to go find Xavier. A frown was now fixated on my lips but it quickly vanishes and is replaced with a fake grin.

"Diana, there is still time to change your mind," Luca whispers.

There was a pang of sadness and pain flooding through his eyes which almost made me change my mind right then and there. I closed my eyes to prevent myself from crying in front of him. This was something that I needed to do on my own.

I knew Xavier would have wanted me to do it.

"No, no. I am leaving now," I open my arms and almost immediately Luca embraces me, "I love you."

"I love you too."

Mia's POV

"Wait, so you mean to tell me, that Luna is finding Xavier while the rest of us sit on our asses and watch it happen? Why in the hell isn't Alpha doing anything?!?" James yells with anger.

We had just explained the entire plan to them but it seemed like they weren't big fans. I mean, I wasn't either knowing that Aunt Diana was risking her life for a dead corpse. I stare out the small window to see the sun had finally gone down, leaving the living room lit by the moonlight and a small lamp.

Lena rubs his back to comfort him and to prevent him from shifting. I stand up and prepare to leave but Lena stops us right away.

"Where are you going? It is quite dark out. Why don't you spend the night? I would really love to catch up and all. I can let the betas know and they can tell Luca." Lena says in a soft voice.

I honestly wouldn't have minded staying with her. I knew that if I stayed that Brady would as well and that was something she needed to be okay with.

"I would love to stay, but-"

"But?"

"Brady must stay with me as well. I would feel more comfortable knowing he was here with me. Would that be alright? We can take the couch." I compromised.

Lena hesitates for a bit but soon agrees to my conditions. I turn to look at Brady and he winks at me. I take a seat in his lap and begin to fiddle with his fingers as he played with my strawberry hair. James lets out a small yawn and leaves Lena alone with us. I had assumed he was going to sleep.

"Why do we all get some rest and tomorrow morning we can speak over breakfast?" Lena asks.

I nod.

Suddenly, Brady and I were finally alone together on the leather couch. I take off my shoes and snuggle into his chest. He shifts slightly to lay on the couch while I had laid on top of him, he ran his fingers up and down my backtracing every curve.

"Get some rest," Brady mumbles in my ear.

In almost minutes Brady was out cold but I couldn't find myself falling asleep. All I could think about was Aunt Diana and this stupid plan. Many questions roamed through my head thinking of all the possibilities of her getting hurt, kidnapped, and even being...killed. It made my heart pound and my palms sweat. There was no way in hell I was letting her go on her own.

I look up to see Brady sleeping peacefully, his steady breathing was so calming to watch. He would never let me go on my own which meant I had to sneak out of his grasp. I loved Brady so much there was no way I would let him follow me.

They needed him here in case of another rogue attack and I knew that this Pack was a safe place for him away from his mother. I slowly start to shift out of his hold but he awakes a bit.

"Hmm, where are you going?" His raspy voice made me want to melt into a puddle.

I shuddered and came up with an excuse that I hoped seemed reasonable enough.

"I-uh-I have to pee really bad. I don't think sleeping on my stomach helped at all." I whispered quietly.

My heart broke at the thought of leaving him but I couldn't have Aunt Diana risk her life to a dead body. She needed someone there with her and if Uncle Luca couldn't go with her, I at least had to try.

My lips rest on his for a moment and I slowly pull away until finally preparing to leave.

"I love you," I mutter.

Brady is soon back to sleep and I take this as my chance to leave to the small house. Don't worry Aunt Diana, I am coming.

I quickly open the door and swiftly shut it then head to the Packhouse where Aunt Diana must have been before leaving. After was seemed like minutes I had made it back to the Packhouse and luckily Aunt Diana was just outside, saying goodbye to Uncle Luca.

"I love you too," He says.

And she was off. I had followed her off of the territory. She didn't seem to notice my presence for a while and I was kind of glad. I knew that as soon as she finds out that I followed her, I was dead. My body was crouched down so I could hide quickly if she turned around. My feet matched her footsteps as we both tried our best to keep quiet and avoid any detection from harm.

A large branch snapped under my foot causing a small yelp to leave my mouth. Aunt Diana turned around within seconds ready to kill whatever was behind her. She soon realized it was me and let out a sigh of relief and anger.

"Mia! What in the hell are you doing?" She gave me a look of disappointment.

How the heck did I get caught already? We weren't even a full mile away from the Pack.

"Okay, hear me out. Auntie, there is no way I am letting you go out there on your own. I can't let you do this without no one else there with you. I am coming with you whether you like it or not."

"No, you are not. This is too dangerous for you Mia, come, I will take you back,"

"No! Aunt Diana. Please. I will not stop, I can't just sit around just waiting to know if you are alive or if someone has hurt you!"

"Same goes for you, Mia! I can not let you come and get hurt while you are under my care. I would never forgive myself."

"Well, then I guess you should know that I forgive you already," I whisper and walk ahead of her.

"What?"

"If you will not forgive yourself, I will do it for you. I forgive you if anything happens to me. It is not your fault at all, I am CHOOSING to come with you."

Aunt Diana scoffs in shock but stays quiet for the rest of the night. Instead, of fighting me anymore, she walked alongside me trying to find ways to stop me from going any further.

"Alright then,"
