Chapter One: Storytime

*****8 years after Diana's wedding*****

Hayden's POV

"Once upon a time, there lived a...princess who went on an adventure with many of her friends! She laughed and played all day until suddenly, a big, bad wolf scared her. She ran away from her friends to someplace she had never been before. The pri-"

"Wait, Papa? Why did the wolf scare her? The princess didn't do anything wrong!" Mia suddenly cut me off.

I stare at the alarm clock that was near her bed to check the time. She was already late for her bedtime, I knew that Jade would kill me if I didn't put her to sleep soon.

"Well, sometimes bad wolves tend to hurt you just to make themselves feel better. Shall I continue the story?"

Mia nodded eagerly and went under her Disney themed blanket that was quite colorful. Her tiny hands held onto the small teddy bear that Luca had given her for her birthday, it was dark brown with black buttoned eyes.

"Yes! Please!"

"Alright, so the princess met a handsome prince who had fallen in love with her. He took the princess back to his kingdom to help her. When they made it there, more bad wolves came causing her to run away from the prince."

"What was the Prince's name?" Mia asked curiously.

"His name? Oh uh," What would I say? "X. His name was Prince X."

Mia raised her eyebrow and started to giggle into her bear while closing her eyes. I chuckled a bit at her reaction then stood up from her bed.

"Prince X? That's a funny name,"

"The princess found another kingdom and asked them for help, she was all alone and scared. She found another Prince over there, Prince L who she fell in love with deeply. He had fallen in love with her also. The princess moved in with Prince L."

"What happened to Prince X?"

"Well, Prince X was sad that he took her away from Prince L, making Prince L really mad. When Prince L saved the Princess, X figured out that she would never love him in that way. After a long time, her friends found L's kingdom. They lived with the Princess for a little bit."

"And then what happened?"

"I will finish the story tomorrow. Why don't you get some sleep hmm? I can finish it over breakfast."

I give her a small kiss on the forehead then walk up to the door. Before leaving the room completely I turned on the small night light then look back at my daughter. She looked just like Jade with her red hair and pale skin.

"Goodnight darlin'."

"Goodnight Papa."

I close the door all the way then rub my face with my rough hands. The front door slammed shut indicating that Jade had made it back home from work. I head downstairs to greet her with a small kiss.

Jade dropped her purse onto the floor while kicking off her shoes. She let out a sigh of relief then brushed some hairs away from her beautiful face.

"How was work?" I greet her and embrace her in my arms.

"Tiring. What about your day off? I'm sure it feels good not being at the station for once."

We both laugh a bit as I let her go and flop onto the couch. Jade patted the cushion next to her and crossed her legs under her body. I take a seat immediately and feel her body cuddled against my side for warmth.

"Did Mia go to sleep fine? I was worried all day that you would allow her to stay up a little longer than usual."

I gulped a tiny bit and pushed my glasses up with my pointer finger trying to figure out what to say.

"Oh, uh yeah. She went to sleep right on time..."

"You're lying," Jade said bluntly.

I drop my head in defeat, clicking my tongue. How did she always know? Was she a werewolf?

"How do you know? Are you a werewolf or something?"

Jade scoffed quietly and slapped my chest in disappointment, I knew she didn't want Mia to hear our conversation.

"Wanna say that any louder?"

"Sorry," I mutter.

Ever since we had made the decision to leave the pack, everything completely changed. Jade and I both were never able to visit the Wood's pack anymore and meet Diana. I would always think of her as one of my own, it was hard never seeing her anymore.

We both could imagine her joyful face brighten up when she visits all of us. Luca, on the other hand, loved hanging around Mia. Mia spent as much time as possible with them when they came over. It was hard for them to stay for long periods of time, especially when they had a much larger pack to look over.

"We need to tell her. One day." I said.

Jade shook her head at the thought and stopped cuddling me for a moment.

"No, we can't tell her, ever! If she found out, she would be upset that we kept it from her for that long! She might even want to figure out where she came from and meet all her aunts and uncles who aren't even close to being human!"

"Alright, let's not talk about this. I can't argue about this again,"

Jade rolls her eyes and heads up to our bedroom without another word, I groan at my mistake and follow her,

"Jade, Listen. I know it is important, but we can't keep worrying about it forever. It is a part of who she is,"

Jade ignored me and started to undress out of her work attire. She put on her PJ's then went to the bathroom to brush her teeth and wash her face.

Jade walks out after a few minutes and gives me a harsh peck on the lips,

"Goodnight."

"Night," I say with a sigh.

I really screwed this up now. Wouldn't you want your child to know where she really is from? I know I do.

*****

My eyes peeled open when I felt someone jump on my back roughly knocking the wind out of me.

"Wake up Papa! Wake up! Mama said that breakfast is ready! Come on!" Mia screeches while continuously jumping onto my back.

I let out a deep yawn and rub the sleep off of my eyes with the pads of my large fingers. My hands touch the nightstand and I put on my glasses.

"I'm up, I'm up!"

Mia slides off of my back and skips down the stairs to Jade, who was cooking eggs and waffles by the smells of it. My stomach grumbled at the thought of food causing me to quickly get ready and head to my beautiful wife and daughter.

I stretched my sore muscles and let out another yawn trying to stay awake as much as possible. I take a seat on the small circular dining table in the small kitchen, licking my lips and rubbing the bottom of my chin.

Jade sets a plate of food in front of me.

"Mm, smells good honey! Thank you,"

Mia takes a seat in the chair across from me and hovers over the table, leaning in closer to me.

"Papa, can you finish the story now? I really want to know how it ends!"

"Oh, of course. Where was I?"

I take a large bite out of my eggs and chew them thoroughly while listening to Mia's response.

"When the Princess's friends live with her and Prince L!"

Oh, right.

"Her friends were not very nice to her in the beginning, the bad wolves hurt all of them before they came to the kingdom. They made the Princess sad. As they were staying there, the biggest and meanest wolf came and wanted to take over. He was also Prince L's older brother."

Jade's shoulders stiffened when she realized the story I was telling. It was our story, the story of how we were thrown into that life.

"Woah!" Mia sounded so amazed at the plot twist.

"Prince L and Prince X went to war with the meanest wolf. At first, they both thought they had defeated the mean wolf and killed him! Except, he was still alive!"

"Did the Prince ever win?"

"Well, the mean wolf actually killed Prince X but Prince L saved the day!"

"Really?"

I nod and take another bite of food before speaking again.

"Really, and now, the Princess and Prince L are married and in love! The end."

"Prince X seemed like a good guy! Why would the mean wolf want to kill him?"

Jade turned her head and stared me dead in the eyes which held worry and sadness. She shook her head and pleaded for me not to say anymore.

"I don't know darlin'."

"Hey! Why don't you go get ready? Uncle Aiden wants to spend the day with you today he says there is present waiting for you at his home!" Jade changed the topic quickly.

Mia clapped her hands happily and ran to her bedroom to get ready for an eventful day. Jade followed her to help with getting dressed and probably to ignore for the rest of the day. I tossed my fork and knife onto the table angrily.

My hand rubs the back of my neck with stress as I try to figure out what to do. I never knew it would be this hard to keep something so...important from your daughter. I always thought that this telling her would be for her safety.

In case anything happened to us, Mia would always have a safe place to go, she would know that Diana and Luca would do anything to keep her safe. Maybe I can speak to them about this?

I sigh deeply and take the phone out of my pocket dialing Luca's office phone. He might be the better person to speak too. I was sure that Diana would side with Jade after everything she had been through the past years.

The phone was humming as it waited for someone on the other line to pick up. After a few more monotone rings the line clicked.

"Hello?" A groggy voice spoke from the other end of the line.

"H-hello? Is this Alpha Luca?" I ask.

"Yes. May I ask who this is?"

"Oh, uh, it's Hayden," I spoke quietly, I was worried he wouldn't be able to hear me.

"Hayden? Oh, man! It's been a while since we have spoken? Was it two years ago? How's Jade and Mia?" Luca cheered.

A smile is formed onto my lips when I heard the joy in his voice, I heard a tap on the phone making me realize he was holding the speaker.

"Diana! Darling come here!"

My eyes widened and I shake my head quickly, waving my arm around like a crazy man.

"Oh NO. I was actually hoping to just speak with you. A man to mankind of thing,"

"Oh, well what is it? Are Jade and Mia okay?" His voice immediately strung with worry.

"Yes, they are fine. This is actually about Mia. I don't know what to do. I want to tell her about you and the Pack when she is older...but Jade doesn't think it is a good idea? We have been arguing about this for a while."

"No. Don't do it. Want to keep her out of trouble? Let her live her life as a normal human, save her from heartbreak, pain, and fear." He answered right away.

I was so confused. I really thought he would understand! Maybe they were right, what if she did find out? We don't know how she would react or if she would take any of this seriously. Just forget it, Hayden.

"Alright. Anyway, you and Jade should come and visit soon! Mia has grown quite a lot since she last saw you! I am sure she misses her Uncle Luca!"

His deep laugh thundered into the phone causing me to pull the phone away from my ear for a moment.

"How does next week sound? Diana and I can stop by for a day or two."

I smile widely.

"That sounds great!"
