Billie's personality is honestly quite a lot to take in when you first meet her. She's super spunky, loud, and outgoing. She throws you in for a loop when you first meet her because of how much she talks. She will just bombard you with questions and comments about drastically different topics it's hard to keep up with her. She's really a social butterfly and likes to have fun. She's impulsive and clearly an extrovert. Billie has a hard time reading the room and can be a little awkward in serious situations. She's fast on her feet, however, and can think of clever ways to get herself out of messy situations. She has an infamous record of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time.

She's also sarcastic and a little rebel, and doesn't like to listen to her parents or teachers. Most people will consider her to be rude and inconsiderate, which she is, but it's just because no one's really taught her to do any better. She's brutally blunt and very vocal about her opinions. She doesn't hold her tongue back and her facial expressions and reactions don't hold back either.

Billie became a really creative and crafty person with a wild imagination who had to make do with what they had growing up. She's resourceful and likes to upcycle. She likes to play with her fashion style and try new things. And Billie still has a lot of growing up left, but now she has to do so in the apocalypse.

𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱.
Billie's background really has affected the person she is today. She was raised in a low-income household with her brother and her parents. Billie was not a planned pregnancy and even came as a surprise as Billie's mom had her when she was –

As a baby and toddler, Billie was such a handful. A wild child, just like her brother had been. Her parents were much older and tired than they were ten years ago when raising her brother (and also were a sucker for their little baby girl's cute face) and let Billie get away with anything she wanted. She's not spoiled, her family was financially far away from that, no she is just more socially uneducated. Unlike her brother, growing up Billie wasn't enforced to have good manners and respect.

Billie and AJ grew up in an old one-story house that was slowly rotting away. There was no insulation or AC, and more than half of the outlets in the house didn't work. And because their parents couldn't afford to fix it, they just remained that way. They were freezing cold winters and summers as hot as hell, battery-operated lights that constantly needed replacement. It was incredibly uncomfortable to live in that house.

Growing up Billie's parents were not the greatest caretakers which in turn made her spend a great deal of time with her older brother, AJ. Whenever Billie was bored, AJ would play make-believe and play pretend as they didn't own too many toys. The siblings would get crafty and make paper iPods, imaginary tea parties, and make the most fantastic-looking pillow forts. When AJ would have to go to school, Billie took it into her own creative imagination to keep herself entertained, but the most fun adventures were always with her brother.

Billie and AJ are both no strangers to second-hand, worn/used, and bootleg items as that's how they were both raised on. While everyone else had the newest iPhone, Billie had a bedazzled flip phone and AJ didn't even get his first phone until he was out of high school.

As Billie grew older and so did AJ, the two fell into the stereotypical sibling trope. They argued and fight, but they were still siblings and live under the same roof so there was nothing much they could do about it. They laugh and forget about their argument 1 hour later like most siblings. Billie is often the one to disagree with her brother when all he is trying to do is look after Billie. And she hasn't realized this then or now, but she will eventually when she's older.

Her brother moved out as soon as he turned 19 and Billie was left to live with her parent's all on her own although he would often come to visit as he didn't live very far.

Because of AJ's appearance, people are always taken aback when they find how naturally compassionate and kind AJ is. He's a very positive person and just like his sister, AJ is an extrovert. He's an outgoing guy and likes to make others laugh and smile. He's a very kind and caring guy that looks out for others and always puts others first before himself. He's always maintained his childlike sense of wonder and humor and gets along amazingly with kids, and the kids like to hang out with AJ, they think he's the coolest person on earth. He likes to keep the atmosphere around him light and fun. He's laid back and doesn't like to take things too seriously. He's a 'go with the flow' kind of guy, and because of this people find it easy to talk and open up with AJ.

But unlike his sister, AJ actually is a very respectful and responsible dude. He knows when to take things seriously and takes charge to get things done. He knows that there's a time and place for fun and knows when it's time to get work done. His mom raised him to have good manners and be well-behaved, AJ has always respected his elders and has been a complete gentleman with girls. AJ is a very compassionate guy and is will always give you a shoulder to cry on. AJ's childhood was rough and cut short, he wasn't able to fully enjoy his childhood, being forced to grow up too quickly and take responsibilities too young, so he knows what it's like to need to talk to someone and to be overwhelmed by stress. AJ may not seem like it, and that's why people are so surprised to find out that he gives out amazing advice. Sometimes, AJ's intrusive thoughts win and he doesn't follow his own advice, gaining some very interesting stories to tell. AJ is usually the first to start a conversation and is also the type of guy to not hesitate to ask for help when he needs it.

Overall as confident and carefree as AJ might seem he's honestly self-conscious about his appearance. Ever since he was young he's thought he was ugly and unattractive. He's never thought of himself as an attractive guy and makes self-deprecating jokes to hide his insecurities. He's not academically smart either, but he is street-smart and has iron skin.

Just like his sister, AJ is also a creative person. AJ has always had a passion for making music and writing lyrics. He also draws a little, mostly abstracte and little doodles. Upcycling with his sister is one of the things he enjoys, he likes  to make to most out of what is given to him.

When he stated working and earning money for himself, he had a tough time learning to let loose and that it's okay to treat himself and buy himself nice things as he was raised on always having a budget.

Overall, AJ is a loving, caring, respectful, individual whom just looks on the bright side of things.

𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱.
His sister, Billie believes that they both had the same childhood growing up but AJ's was different than hers.
His parents had been a lot more strict with AJ than they were with Billie, seeing as AJ was the firstborn and the only child back then and his parents didn't really know what they were doing with the poor kid.

AJ grew up in the same old house that Billie had grown up in, except it wasn't as destroyed as when they had first moved in. His parent's never seemed to be in a good mood and was always in shouting matches forcing AJ to hear it all behind the walls of his room. His mother never really cared for any of AJ's interests like his school's talent shows and choir performances that AJ always participated in and wanted oh so proudly to see his parents sitting in the audience. But he never saw them, they would never show up. 

AJ's dad was usually passed out drunk during the day and always absent at night, and his mom would get easily frustrated with AJ and always end up yelling insults at the small child, even going as far as physically hitting the boy whenever he would make an innocent mistake.

AJ's childhood was full of fear instead of laughter and joy and it deeply saddens his wonder-like and creative soul but it didn't burn it out completely.

At school, AJ was free to be himself without the fear of his parent's reactions. AJ was an outgoing and social kid, not the brightest at things like math, but excelled in extracurricular activities. AJ found his passion in things like art and singing, setting his mind at a young age that he wanted to be famous.

Entering middle school and with that, he found how relieving it was to stay over at his friends' house instead of going back to the dreadful house. But that didn't last long as it was around this time when his younger sister Billie was born and a tremendous weight of pressure and responsibility as an older brother was placed on AJ.
Sure AJ was excited to have a younger sister, someone to play with and be his best friend in the house, but at the same time, got a little jealous of how drastically different his parents treated Billie. Billie was the precious little baby and could do no harm, and AJ was given the responsibility to look after her as his parents didn't have the energy to look after another child.
Nonetheless, AJ loved playing with his baby sister, and it did make him feel less lonely in the household but he was now entering high school and wanted to be more independent and build up his social life (as he was literally dead serious about becoming famous). This was around the time social media was starting to become a thing, with Instagram and Snapchat being all the crazy. So he started spending more and more time away from home and out with his friends.

At 16, AJ went out and got a job at a diner as a busboy. He was hard-working and all the customers grew truly fond of the young boy as he was charismatic, friendly and talkative. All the regulars knew of the boy's big dreams and supported his interests as they got to know more about him each night. AJ signed up to the early version of Soundcloud and made his own music in his breaks behind the diner hanging out with his friend and future roommate.

AJ ended up dropping out of high school and working at the diner full time, eventually being promoted to waiter, and now (9 years later) the cook. He had saved up enough money to move out of his parent's and into a shitty little apartment complex with his best friend. The apartment was located in the middle of Los Angeles and not too far from his childhood home, so AJ would often still go to his parent's house to go see Billie.
His girlfriend, Mercedes, and AJ met when AJ was still in high school. Mercy was a popular girl, a cheerleader, and the most beautiful girl in her grade. AJ was none of the above yet they both sat next to each other in biology. Between AJ dropping flirty comments and Mercy's cute giggle, neither of the two ever paid any attention and often found themselves creating a total mess during the labs. But nothing ever happened due to the social rank between the two, Mercy being rich and coming from a high-class family and AJ owning a flip phone in the age of the new and popular Iphones was just obviously not a good look for Mercy's friends.

After AJ dropped out, he didn't keep in contact with a few of the high school people but soon discovered that the diner was a popular spot for the students. And so Mercy and AJ meet again, the pretty girl and the bus boy. AJ fell hard in love with Mercy, and she liked the charismatic busboy. She would come into the diner behind her friend's back just to see the bus boy, spending hours talking about the most silly little randoms. He opened up to Mercy and told her about his childhood, he wrote songs for mercy, he would make little doodles on the napkins for her, he even got a tattoo for her, he completely was head over heels for her. He respected her and even though he didn't have much money to buy her luxurious gifts, he would always remember the little details about her. He and Mercy would hang out the back of the diner during his breaks and smoke cigarettes while trying to sell AJ's cd's to people that walked by, laughing at nothing and talking about the 'when I'm famous' plots, AJ was so lovestruck. Mercy knew and supported his dream of becoming a famous singer, and she helped by sharing his music with the higher-ups in Hollywood her parents knew.
It was during the days of the earlier announcements of the virus when people were glued to their TVs waiting to hear what was going on next that AJ excitedly (and nervously) waited for Mercy's call on his studio contract she said they had to offer him. Hours went by, why hasn't she called? He had assured her that even if they had rejected him, that he would never blame Mercy for it, he could never be mad at her, it wasn't her fault. 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 6pm, 7pm, he watched as the hours ticked by, and not one single call from Mercy. At 8pm, he called her, he didn't wanna be a bother, and he didn't want to pressure her, but he needed to know why she hadn't called him. Why? No answer. Another day went by with still no call from Mercy. He called again and still no answer. And on the third day, he could care less about the album, all AJ needed to know was that Mercy was okay, because that was when things in the world began to take a turn for the worst.
