Prologue
Prologue
"Stormy?" Sarah whispered over the loud thunderstorm caused by Hurricane Agatha booms over our mansion.
Sarah is my twin sister. She's my everything. She's my best friend. We have each other's back 24/7, especially when Dad and Rose, our "step" mum are up our asses all the time.
It was completely dark. Hurricane Agatha had decided to hit the Outer Banks this summer. No doubt that our power is out— but I know our Dad will bring the backup generates in no time.
"I'm here." Sarah had slipped into my bed and we cuddled next to each other. I wrapped an arm around her and pulled her close to me. She hated thunderstorms and I understood why they are not the best. But, I can't be scared because I'm the one that has to comfort her.
"I'm not gonna be happy about the aftermath of Hurricane Agatha. There's not gonna be any service for days." We both chuckled.
"Wheezie is going to have a fit." Sarah giggled. I nodded. Wheezie is our 14-year-old sister. I love her, I do, but sometimes she spends way too much time on social media. We have an older brother, Rafe, as well. We're not as close to Rafe as we are to Wheezie. I think Rafe hates us as he refers to Sarah and I as the princesses of the family.
Sarah and I are pretty fortunate to live comfortably. We live in Figure 8, the Kook side. There's another side on the Island and that's where the Pogue's live. I absolutely hate it that we think we're living in the 80s' or something. Everyone is the same trying to concur this world, but apparently, in the Outer Banks, there's are the Kooks (the rich and comfortable) and then there's the Pogue's (the poor and lower-income).
Another crash outside and the sound of trees being ripped up outside on our lawn made me cringe. Sarah squeezes me tightly. "Hopefully, by the morning, it should be over. Right?"
"Yeah." Sarah murmured and she flinches when another loud crash was heard above us.
I let out a sigh and rubbed my sister's shoulders. "Everything will be over shortly, Sarah."

The next morning, To say that everything would be the same after Hurricane Agatha would a straight lie. Hurricane Agatha had completely destroyed everything the Outer Banks had worked hard for.
Figure 8 was no longer... Well... Figure 8. It looked like the Pogue's area, completely trashed. I can't even imagine what the Pogue's area would look like now.
As I walked out onto my lawn, I truly got a good look at what Hurricane Agatha did. The palm trees that were once by my house, was completely ripped out of its of ground. It's root's we're showing.
The trash from the ocean had covered some of our lands. The water feature, which was a water foundation with a statue had fallen down. A few of Mum's favourite art pieces were in the pool.
Dad had already people working on our lawn, in hopes of repeating and hopefully, he's getting the backup generators.
"Stormy, honey!" I looked over to find my Dad walking towards me with some woman, an arm wrapped around her shoulder. She looked like she could cry. Dad approached me. "Honey, are you and Sarah okay?"
"Yes, we're fine, Daddy," I responded, nodding. "Is everything okay?"
"Yes, I—I'm looking for your sister. Do you happened to know where she is?"
"Um," I responded, looking around, trying to find any sign of Sarah. But there were too many people. "I don't know. I woke up late this morning and Sarah was gone from our room. I can try to help look."
Dad gave me a smile. "Yes, please. Oh, Lana, this is my daughter, Stormy. Stormy, this is Lana."
I shake Lana's hand. "It's so nice to meet you."
"You too, Stormy," Lana had given me a half-smile.
"Daddy!" I looked over at the pool to see Wheezie, my younger sister, call over to Dad. Dad sighed and walked over to his Wheezie. Lana and I followed. "The wifi's not working. I can't post anything."
"Wheezie, there as a hurricane, sweetheart." Dad pointed out. Finally, we noticed Sarah. "What is your sister doing?"
I looked past them to see that none other than Sarah Cameron waving off some birds by the ocean. I shake my head, smiling. Sarah's always been that way, she loves to protect animals.
"Saving mice," Wheezie spoke in a bored tone. Birds were swooping down and trying to attack the mice, while Sarah stayed and defended them.
"I'm sorry," Dad apologised to Lana. "Sarah!"
"I'm busy!" Sarah yelled, waving her arms around with a tennis racket.
"What are you doing?" Dad questioned as we walked over to her.
"The burrows filled with water from the surge," Sarah called out, her back still faced us. "The birds are having a field day."
"The birds have to eat too, Sarah," I pointed out and that's when she turned to us.
"No, it's a mouse genocide out here," Sarah called. "No!" She went back to defending the mice.
"That's the cycle of life, sweetheart," Dad told Sarah. "Now, come on."
"I can't be a part of it," Sarah spoke determinedly. "First they came for the mice, Daddy."
"Yeah, well, I have an actual human being you might be able to help..." Dad trailed off.
"Oh, my God." Sarah comes running over. She was in an orange bikini top with shorts. I was wearing a bright pink bikini top with some denim shorts. Sarah shakes hands with Lana. "I'm Sarah. I'm so sorry."
"This is Lana, Scooter's wife." Dad introduces. "Now, you were storm prepping with him, right?"
"Yeah." Sarah nods. "He helped me latch the cabin on the Druthers."
"Last night?"
"Yeah," Sarah replied.
"And did he go out after that?" Dad questioned.
"From here?" Sarah's eyes widen.
"Yeah."
"No." Sarah shakes her head. "Are you crazy? There was a hurricane."
"Well, did he say where he was going?" Lana continued to quiz Sarah. "Get a phone call or mention anything?"
The blonde looks at Lana. "He didn't say anything to me." A look of panic structs Lana's face as she looked at Dad. "I'm so sorry, is he okay?"
"He's absolutely okay," Dad lied to us. I could tell that something was up. "He's just hunkered down somewhere."
Lana and Dad had left us alone and Sarah turned to me, her eyes still wide. "Nothing about that seemed right to me." I had said, placing a hand on my hip. "I'm gonna go file a missing person's report to the coast guard. You wanna come with?"
"Always up for an adventure with my bestie." Sarah had linked arms with and dropped her racket.
I raised an eyebrow. "What, no saving mice?"
She looked at the birds that were no longer there. "I'll be back for you!" She had shouted before giggling and dragging me over to my Jeep Wrangler.
We jumped into the pink Jeep Wrangler, despite me driving her alone is illegal, we didn't give a shit. Besides, she's my twin. I took a hit of my vape as soon as we were inside my car and she gasped.
"They could see you!" Sarah hisses as I pulled out of Cameron's driveway and towards the coast guard office. "You know how much trouble we will be in if they find out?"
"So much." I nodded, smirking. "I couldn't give a crap. Now plug in your music."

The two of us had pulled up into a park and climbed out. We wandered over to the docs, where the coast guard was, to report the missing person. Scooter Grubbs.
Sarah and I linked arms as we walked onto the docs, pushing our way to the front of the line. There were people arguing at the office, making useless points.
I shoved my way up to the front, leaving Sarah there.
"Excuse me, excuse me, hi!" I pushed my way in front of the couple arguing with the coast guard. "Yeah, hi."
"Why, Stormy Cameron, what can I do for you, honey?" The Coast Guard had stopped arguing with the couple, dropping everything for me. I smiled widely.
The couple had begun to start arguing with me. "Excuse me, miss, we were here first." The lady had snapped, sending me a glare.
"A human life is more important than your diabetic dog." I had to break it to them and horror structs both of their face.
I felt another presence beside me and I turned to look. I frowned when I realised it was John B and JJ. They were Pogues; people who didn't like my people. That must mean Kie, Sarah and I's old friend would be around here too. Kie's a Kook, but she pretends to be full Pogue.
I quickly looked away and turned back to the coast guard. "Listen, I'm here to report on someone else's behave. I know she won't, but, Scooter Grubbs is missing." I brushed some hair out of my face, tucking it behind me. "And I was wondering if you could send a searching party or something? Specifically the ocean."
"Why the ocean, Stormy?" The coast guard questioned, raising an eyebrow.
"I believe he might've gone out that night," I gulped.
The coast guard laughed it off. "Course not, sweetheart. No one would be that stupid. Go to the police to report the missing person."
"But—"
The couple behind me started to argue again and I huffed before pushing my way back out. I accidentally bumped into someone, I turned to say sorry but stopped when I noticed it was JJ staring down at me.
I didn't say anything to him and I rushed off to Sarah, linking an arm around her. I noticed Pope and Kie standing nearby, glaring at us. Pope was another friend of theirs. He was the smart one of the group. I didn't mindPope, was the smart and kind one in the group.
"What'd they have to say?" Sarah questioned. "It didn't look very good."
"That's because it wasn't." I sighed, running a hand through my hair as we walked out onto the docks. "Can you believe them? They said to go to the police for a missin' person case. Hey, think I can borrow Topper's malibu to go out and search for Scooter?" Topper's Sarah's current boyfriend.
"You strongly believe this," Sarah questioned as we approached our car in the car park.
I nodded my head. "I really do."
"I need to check up on him anyways."
