zero. the kiss of death

THE SHIVER DOWN HIS SPINE BROUGHT MEMORIES OF A DARK NIGHT.

Adonis shouldn't be here, he knew better, he knew damn too well he shouldn't be here. But, it was too late, his dagger was dripping blood, it wasn't his blood, instead, it was the red liquid from his enemy, Adonis was one step closer to find the murderers of his father.

The old man screamed agonizing as the blood traveled down his hand, the dagger had cut deep passing through his skin, and pulling it out made the situation a lot worse.

"Believe me kid, I have no idea who killed your father." The man screamed backing up as his legs kicked, being a support of his movements.

"Bullshit. You were the driver that night, you were there don't you remember? December 24th, 2009." Adonis said, stepping on his ankle, a muffled groan escaped the man's lips, just a few minutes ago, Adonis was hit that spot with a metallic baseball bat, it hadn't been broken but surely a bruise would make an appearance, but now, Adonis was threatening to break it.

"I just knew the escape plan of them, nothing else, if you want answers find Ivan, he was in charge of everything, he got orders from their boss, I don't know him but Ivan listens to him." The man screamed in pain, Adonis pressed his foot on the fingers of his bare foot.

"Thank you for your cooperation." Adonis smirked, his eyes lighten up with joy behind his mask. Pulling out the gun aiming at his head, ignoring the screams and begs of the man, only the echo of the bullet was heard on the abandoned warehouse.

Adonis Flood was one step closer to bring justice to his father. Ivan was the name of his killer. Ivan didn't hesitate to murder Atlas Flood in the living room and he didn't hesitate even though Ivan saw the nine year old hiding in the staircase. Ivan was emotionless, he was gonna suffer the consequences of his actions.

Adonis couldn't forget that night, he couldn't do it. And he wouldn't do it until Ivan was dead.

December 24th, 2009

"Off to bed Don, or Santa isn't coming tonight and leave you your gifts." Atlas tapped his son's head a few times, the child was eyeing inside the fridge, staring in aw at the cookies and milk he had set ready for Santa.

Adonis was old enough to know the truth of the old man with white beard and how his existence wasn't there anymore, but he kept the belief for the cookies and milk. And because his younger cousin was in the kitchen with him.

"Adonis, take Lucas to sleep too, and no peeking, Santa has powers and he will know when children are up waiting for his arrival.

The nine year old pushed the younger kid up the stairs, the small voice of the child filled the hallway as they sang christmas songs, Atlas smiled to himself when he watched the children disappear, knowing that he would start putting the gifts under the tree after midnight, and the cookies would disappear soon.

Adonis Flood never fell asleep quickly, he took his time, ever since he was born this was an issue, something that his parents worried about, thinking the child could have some type of condition or not enough of something in his system. But nothing was wrong, Adonis just could fall asleep that quickly.

Adonis tossed and turned in his bed, the small clock on his side table showed the numbers ten, then eleven, and then out of nowhere, the clock showed one in the morning. Adonis had fallen asleep between that time and it had been a loud crashing sound that woke him up.

"Lucas? Are you asleep?" The child turned to look at his side, seeing the smaller figure resting peacefully while gentle snores left his lips.

Without thinking, Adonis climbed out of bed, he could hear more crashing sounds, things getting thrown, and a worried kid, the first thought he had was that something had happened to his father, so he hurried carefully down the stairs, stopping when he saw more people in the living room, and his father in the ground.

"Don't play dumb with us Atlas, we know you have it." A man, very tall and buff spoke, the crossbow in his hand danced to the other one and viceversa.

"I have nothing of that, I have no idea what you're —." Atlas was interrupted by a hard hit in his face by another man's shoe.

"Where's the money Atlas? Boss is waiting for it." Kneeling down, the face of the intruders were half shown, a face mask covering from their nose down to their necks.

If Adonis wasn't confused and scared of what was happening he would've been laughing by the strange attire they had, colorful tracksuits, they didn't look like the bad guys in tv, they looked funny to the child. But he wasn't laughing, he was scared, his father was hurt and he didn't know if he should stop everything or wait.

"Tell your boss he can rot in hell." Atlas spit on his face, spots of red painting his cheeks.

The masked man stood up, changing the weapon from the crossbow to a gun, the guys behind him cheered and some even whistled with excitement.

"Alright calm down everyone, we don't want the whole  neighborhood to hear us." The man chuckled a few times before silence fell on. "One more time Atlas, where's our boss money?"

"I have two words for you, F—." A silent shot was released, the body of his father fell on the ground completely. Adonis covered his mouth, he could've screamed so loud but his mother wasn't home and he didn't want to wake Lucas, and face the same end as his father, he tried his best not cry out loud, the soft whimpers were the only sound coming from him.

The masked man kneeled and checked on Atlas, making sure he was dead, looking around his eyes noticed Adonis hiding in the staircase, the child couldn't move, he was frozen in shock. The man walked over to him, lowering his weapon and both hands in the air.

"Not going to hurt you kid, do you know where daddy hides his money?" He asked in his most charming voice, his steps slower and closer to Adonis. The kid only shook his head at him, the tears rolling down his cheeks. "That's okay, go back to sleep, Santa is coming any time now." Without a hesitation, the masked man took hold of the back of Adonis head, leaning close he kissed the top of his head.

"What are you doing idiot? No witnesses." One of the acquaintances said, another agreeing with him.

"He's a child Vernon, he won't know anything years later, also, it's Christmas. Happy Christmas child." The masked man said and walked away, leaving the house, the body of a dead man, and a very scared and traumatized child.

Adonis saw everything and the only thing he could pick up was the face of their driver when they left with the door open, the only man without a mask.

Adonis couldn't speak for months, his mother came home to find the scene, she had a very busy and chaotic day at the hospital as a nurse, and to find her husband dead on the floor on Christmas night, she didn't expect it or even thought of it. All she could do was scream, cry and try to comfort her child and her nephew who later came down the stairs after the screeching panic.

Adonis didn't know how to feel or what to feel. But as he grew older and saw that no one was doing anything to investigate his father's murder and only to call it home invasion, it made him so angry.

Adonis knew from that moment he was going to make things right, bring justice to Atlas Flood's name.
