Chap. 11 - Battle in Vain
"What... What happened? Where... Where am I?" Hornet wondered to herself.
Hornet seemed to be floating in a sea of golden water. I didn't feel anything. I didn't think of anything. It was as if her body had simply shut down, leaving only her consciousness in that peaceful place. Was he in paradise? How was I to know?
He had plenty of time to think and think. How long had it been? A few minutes? Hours? Days? I couldn't say. He just knew that none of it mattered right now. She could simply continue floating, let herself be dragged along by the gentle current that led her to who knows where. And if he was being honest with himself, he didn't even want to wake up. And so it would have been, had it not been for a strange voice that shook his head.
????: - Get up. -
Each letter caused a different type of pain, turning his peaceful dreams into a nightmare. Whose voice was that? He had never heard it before, but remembering it sent chills through his shell. Hornet opened his eyes slowly, a bright yellow light preventing him from seeing clearly. In fact, such light made it painful to even see.
He tried to use his hands to cover his face, while his pupils gradually adapted to the lighting of the place. I was beginning to see shapes, strange shapes that I couldn't understand clearly. Then her ears began to pick up signals, voices yelling at each other... Was it... Was it a battle? Why was it so busy? Little by little, his eyes allowed him to see the panorama, showing an image that would chill every drop of blood.
In front of her loomed a huge radiant moth. As big as the City of Tears itself, and as bright as the sun itself. The Pale King's light seemed like a mediocre candle in the face of such majesty and power. There was no doubt. That was the Shining. That was the cause of all the suffering in the kingdom, and in his past.
At the feet of the Radiance lay a tired body, full of wounds and badly battered. He was distant, but Hornet could recognize him from the statue in the central plaza of the City of Tears. It was him. He was the original Hollow Knight, of that there was no doubt. His spirit still struggled... But how? The knight was supposed to have taken his place as a container for the Radiance. And if that's the case... where was the knight?
Suddenly, the Blaze roared loudly, as if it had received a painful blow somewhere. Hornet raised his head, and saw a strange object descending at great speed. Harassment that was...? Suddenly, two huge wings unfolded from the strange object, and descended at great speed, hitting the head of the Flash as a strange black force was released by the force of the blow. The Blaze stepped back slightly, though with its massive size it could barely feel such an attack. Was it bigger than he remembered?
The strange object jumped back, slamming down onto the platform, landing right next to the fallen Hollow Knight. It was him. It was the knight.

Knight: - Brother, step back. - His vigorous voice shook Hornet, because he had never heard such a beautiful voice before.
Hollow Knight: - I won't let you do it alone. I can still fight. - He said with a slightly more mature voice, worthy of an older and wise brother, but stifled due to his lack of strength.
Knight: - Be careful! -
Upon the knight's warning, hundreds of beams of light shot from the Blaze's face. The power of the attacks was brutal, devastating entire areas after each impact. If it weren't for the quick reflexes of the knight, who used a kind of shadow displacement to grab his brother and pull him out of the impact zone, he would have been instantly vaporized. That was not the ordinary Radiance. That was The Absolute Radiance.
Hornet hadn't even been able to react to the commotion, when the knight did something that broke all logic. He stretched out his hand towards his wounded brother, and his palm began to glow, and in front of his eyes, a body began to form from a strange white light, a light much purer than that of the White Lady herself. This body took shape, taking on the silhouette of a slender mantis.
Knight: - Can you heal it? - Asked what looked like a spectrum.
Mantis: - I can do it. But I will need time. -
knight: - I'll take care of that. -
The knight charged into the Absolute Radiance, while the mantis used some kind of magic to heal Hollow Knight's wounds. Hornet was sure she had seen the mantis face before, perhaps in some story or tale, but she couldn't quite tell where. But his thoughts were interrupted, when the glow roared with force to see the knight approaching.
Dozens of extremely sharp white stakes were sprouting from the ground, trying to end the knight's life with a single cut. White spikes, like holy weapons, summoned by the Radiance itself, but the knight was able to dodge them with his absurd agility, and the shadow dashes he sometimes used to get rid of attacks. And when he was close enough, he raised his left hand and it shone again.
A huge ball shot out of the knight, hitting the Blaze hard in the face as he reeled from the impact. The green sphere rolled violently, but it seemed to be under the control of the knight, as it bounced multiple times against the body of the Radiance. So Hornet thought, until the ball stopped, taking the shape of a huge caterpillar.
Knight: - Good job, Marmu. The rest, follow her example. -
Marmu: - Look at me. I'm finally flying.
Marmu? Hornet recognized that name from old. Well, it was believed that she was a great warrior. But he had died years ago. How was it possible? Several warriors began to emerge from the knight's hand, something completely inexplicable for Hornet, whose presence had gone unnoticed by everyone until now. These warriors were not common, as they had techniques that were beyond all logic, technique that Hornet immediately identified.
The first was Gorb, whose will summoned razor-sharp beams of light that pierced the Radiance's consciousness, always keeping a safe distance away from all dangers surrounding the knight.
The second was Elder Hu, whose techniques coming from outside the realm were known to many in ancient times. With various gestures of his hands, huge golden accordions were summoned, impacting the Radiance like powerful vises over and over again.
The third was simply known as the one without eyes, and whose history was unknown to all, although the rumors hid a dark and chilling past. The spirits of her children welled up from her dying body, rushing in a sea of frenzy against the Radiance, their huge mouths biting into the huge glowing body.
The fourth was the one who dared to challenge the creatures of the deep nest, the huge warrior known as Galien. He brandished his massive scythe, shattering the huge holy swords of radiance with his powerful blows. His scythe seemed to be forever thirsty for blood, as he charged in front of the knight clearing the way.
Drawn from the tales of legend, the fifth was an ancient warrior that the ancient books called Xero. A skillful warrior, who without much effort managed to dodge the attacks of the Radiance, while its four blades cut the skin of her enemy over and over again. He moved like a ninja, a red shadow you couldn't follow with your eyes, a nightmare that appeared and vanished before your eyes, striking fear into even the bravest of hearts.
And the last one was a legend in all its glory. His name still echoed in folk tales. Such a powerful warrior, it is speculated that he was at a higher level than the king's knights in his prime. Markoth, the best warrior of the extinct tribe of moths, a unique machine of war and destruction. His shield did not waver as he stopped short of the huge holy swords of the Blaze, and his magical daggers knew exactly where to strike so that the metal shattered into a thousand pieces. It was a powerful enemy, an enemy that cannot be ignored.
Hornet didn't know how, but somehow, the knight was able to use the spirits of fallen warriors from the past. Legends among legends. How did it come to be with such power? And even more surprising... How come the knight was the most powerful of all? Was it the knight's power? Or was it related to their being in the Dream World? Or did those souls have some kind of link to the knight? There were too many questions and too few answers.
The seven dream warriors seemed to perform a perfect dance around him as he charged at the Blaze, only to land a killing blow and then recede. But no matter his efforts, Absolute Radiance didn't seem to let up no matter how many attacks he received. He was omnipotent, absolute. He had no rival. A light that could not be put out. And he was about to prove it.
The knight backed away, standing next to his brother, who was gradually recovering thanks to the power of the mantis that Hornet still couldn't recognize. They were all exhausted. Who knows how long they have been fighting tirelessly? But that didn't seem to affect Absolute Radiance.
The Blaze's face began to gather energy, growing more and more with each passing second. A huge yellow ball of power began to form in front of his face, as he focused his gaze on the group that could barely move from exhaustion. And after a sharp second of silence, a powerful beam of yellow energy shot out with enormous power, destroying everything in its path.
Hornet: - NOOOOOOOOO! - And everything turned dark.
