2: Explaining Everything to New Friends

Evie's Point of View

I jolted up from where I was lying down, no longer in my Hollow Hunter suit. But my gloves are still here. I moved my arms. They were working fine.

"What the...?"

I looked around. I did not recognize the room I was in.

I was about to get up, when the door opened. A man wearing a green coat, green and white hat, and clogs was standing in the doorway.

"Oh, good," he said. "Your awake."

I stood up. "Who are you?" I demanded. I didn't know how I was going to defend myself, unless...

The man puts his hands up in a surrender gesture. "Easy now. I'm Kisuke Urahara. Ichigo brought you here."

Ichigo brought me here?

"Why?" I asked, slightly lowering my guard.

"Well, you were hurt, and I was the closest place they could think of. Now, come on. Everyone's waiting for you."

I walked out the door and followed him into another room.

In this room, I found Ichigo and and the three friends of his that I haven't met sit on the floor around a small brown table.

"Have a seat," Kisuke said, sitting between the girl and the tall boy. I decided to sit beside Ichigo and Glasses.

"So, who exactly are you?" The boy with the glasses asked.

I sighed. I knew I didn't have a choice. "I'm Evie Ressello. I'm a human called a Hollow Hunter."

Kisuke looked up at me. "Your a Hollow Hunter?"

I nodded. "Do you know what I am?"

"I met one once before, a while back."

I nodded. Before I could say anything, Ichigo asked, "What's a Hollow Hunter?"

"A Hollow Hunter is a human with another being inside them called an Eye. The Eye is basically a soul inside a sphere. There's only two, Michelle and Rachel. The one I met had Rachel. The Eyes can't get around anywhere unless they have a vessel," Kisuke explained. Then he turned to me. "Which one do you have?"

I bit my lip. "Actually, for some reason, I have both."

He looked surprised. "That can happen? I didn't know that."

I shrugged my shoulders. "Neither did Michelle and Rachel." We were quiet for a moment. "So what are you guys? I've never seen spirit ribbons like yours before."

"What do you mean?" Glasses readjusted his glasses.

"I see spirit ribbons differently than Soul Reapers. Ichigo's and Kisuke's are red, so I know they're Soul Reapers. You," I pointed to the tall boy, "have a white and green one, so you're a Fullbringer. But, you," Glasses was next, "have a white and blue ribbon, and you," I pointed to the girl, "have a white and purple one."

Glasses readjusted his glasses, "I'm Uryu Ishida. I am a Quincy."

The girl said, "I'm Orhime Inoue. I'm human. And this is Chad."

I nodded. Now I knew all their names.

"I'm actually only a substitute Soul Reaper," Ichigo said.

"Oh," I replied.

"So, wait," Kisuke said. "How do you have both of the Eyes?"

I shrugged. "I don't even know how they choose their next vessel."

"What's the real reason for the gloves?" Ichigo said.

"They actually hide the spirit energy of the Eyes. If I didn't wear the gloves, my spirit energy would go crazy and attract hollows to me."

Master? The sleepy voice of Rachel went through my mind. I gasped.

"What is it?" Chad asked.

"I-I just heard the voice of Rachel."

Master! It was Michelle this time.

"They're waking up!" I said excitedly.

I let their power flow into me, and I changed into my Hollow Hunter suit.

"Woah!" Orhime said. "That's so cool!"

I sighed in relief. "I'm so glad."

"Who are you?!" A different voice said from my mouth. Michelle.

"Who said that?" Uryu asked.

"I'm Michelle, Eye of the Right Hand."

"And I'm Rachel, Eye of the Left Hand."

Ichigo introduced himself and his friends to the Eyes.

"Kisuke Urahara?" Rachel asked.

Kisuke's nodded. "So you remember me?"

Rachel made my head nod. "You're a hard person to forget."

"I'll take that as a compliment."

"Rachel remembers her past vessels?" Uryu asked.

I nodded. "So does Michelle. It's useful, 'cause they can show me past memories so if I can't figure out what I need to do, they can show me how past vessels did it."

"How did you stop that cero, earlier?" Ichigo changed the subject.

"Oh, well Michelle can absorb spirit attacks like that. Then, if I want, I can fire back with twice the power."

"Wow!" Orhime said. "That's amazing!"

I felt my cheeks turn a little red from embarrassment. Fortunately, no one saw it because of my suit. "Thanks."

"So, why are you here?" Kisuke asked.

I bit my lip. "That's kind of hard to explain. For some reason, Michelle and Rachel really wanted me to come here. They don't even know why. They just had a... feeling that we need to be here."

"Hmmm, that's pretty strange," Kisuke murmured to himself.

"Hey, Evie," Orhime turned to me. "You don't seem to trust Mr. Yajimaru. Why's that?"

"Yajimaru... he's not human. Not really. He's a half-being. Half human, half something else. I'm not sure what the other half is. He's able to hide his spiritual energy, and shape shift into anything. Fortunately, he doesn't have the powers of whatever he shifts into. I have this feeling he has other abilities too. I can't believe he followed me here..." I trailed off.

"Why would he follow you here?" Chad asked.

"As far as I know, he wants the power of the Eyes. With this power, he would become a 'perfect being'. If he became a perfect being, he'll be immortal, and extremely powerful. Part of the job as a Hollow Hunter is to protect the Eye that chooses a person as a vessel. In my case, I have to protect both of them."

"Why would he want to be a perfect being?" Uryu asked.

I shrugged. "I'm not really sure. Maybe being a half-being is difficult, because you wouldn't really fit in anywhere."

"Sounds like a Bount," Ichigo said. "Is Yajimaru immortal?"

I shook my head. "That's part of the reason he wants the Eyes. What's a Bount?"

"They're immortal creatures that drain human souls. You don't have to worry about it."

We were silent for a moment. Then a question popped in my mind. "How did you heal me? My arms were broken!"

Orhime raised one of her hands. "That's part of my ability. I can reject all phenomenon."

"That's cool."

I decided to get out of my suit. I let the power leave me and go back into the orbs, turning me back to normal. The gloves came and that made me so happy.

"Well, I should probably get back," Ichigo said and got up.

"Me, too," everyone else followed suit. Soon, it was just me and Kisuke.

I was about to get up, but Kisuke said, "Wait."

I looked at him confused. "What is it?"

"I know that vessels for the Eyes have to lose one of the parents in order for the Eye to enter their new vessels. You have both Eyes, so I can only assume that you lost both your parents when you were born."

I looked down sadly. "You're right."

"I'm also left to assume that wherever you're staying, you're not legally supposed to be."

"Right again."

"Do you want to stay here?"

I looked up in surprise. "Really?"

He shrugged. "I don't see why not. Besides I still owe Rachel." I could tell he was smiling, even though he was hiding it behind a fan.

"Thanks," I said gratefully.

Ichigo's Point of View

"So that was the ninja you were telling us about earlier," Orhime said as we walked to our houses.

I nodded. "That's the one." At lunch, I told my friends about the ninja that helped me defeat the hollow. I also pointed out that her spiritual pressure was also similar to Evie's.

My combat pass went off again. "There's a lot of hollows today," I noted. I pulled it out and pushed myself out of my body. "I'll be right back."

I flash stepped away. I got there at the same time as Evie.

"There's a lot of hollows today," she said.

I nodded. We charged at the hollow together, me with my Zanpakuto, her with her red sword. The hollow didn't stand a chance.

"What's with the sword?" I asked Evie as she put it away.

"Michelle collects Reishi and uses it to form a sword," she explained.

"So, then you never have to worry about losing or breaking your sword."

"Yep. Do you know why there are so many hollows today?"

"I have no idea. That was the 4th one I fought today."

"That was my 3rd. I have a clue on why there so many hollows, but I've got no proof."

"What's your idea?"

"I think Yajimaru is sending hollows here, but again, I have no proof, so I can't point any fingers yet."

I thought for a second. "That could be right. When we battled that first hollow together, the hollow wasn't destroying anything or devouring any souls. It felt like it was sent to test us or something."

"You felt like that too? I had this bad feeling Yajimaru sent him after us."

We were silent for a moment. "Well, I have to head back," I said. I saw her wave as I flash stepped away.

When I got back, I found my friends still there.

"That was quick," Uryu pointed out.

"Well, I had Evie help me. She showed up at the same time as I did."

"What did you mean when you said there was a lot of hollows today?" Chad asked.

"That was the 4th one I fought today. Usually, I only fight one or two. I talked to Evie about it, and she thought it was strange too." I explained to them our conversation.

We were silent on the way back, pondering on what was really going on.
