10: Lectures... Ugh
Evie's Point of View
I sat up from the floor where I was sleeping. I looked around and, to my disappointment, saw that I was still in the cell the half-beings put me in. "Damn," I muttered to myself.
I stood up and walked to the bars. It was still dark, but I could see a bit more than I could the first time I woke up. I could see the seki seki rock's smooth surface.
My stomach growled. I looked down at it for a second, wondering how I was going to satisfy it.
"Good morning!" I looked up and saw an usually cheerful Yajimaru approaching me. "How are you?"
I looked at him bored. "I can't believe you just asked that. How do you think I am?"
"I brought you breakfast." He unlocked the cell door, gave me the tray full of food and leaned against the wall.
"I'm not eating as long as your in here."
He glared at me, all traces of his good mood gone.
I dropped the food on the floor and it landed perfectly, with a couple of spilled liquid, probably milk. Then I plopped myself to the ground. Note to self: don't plop down on seki seki rock.
"So, why did you bring me here?" I asked. "I'm fairly certain you want to become a perfect being."
He nodded. "Yes, that is what I want."
"Then why haven't you done it yet?!"
"Do you know where the Eyes originated from?" he asked.
"What? How would I know that?"
He sighed, probably thinking I'm the stupidest person on earth. "Fine then, I'll explain to you the origins of Rachel and Michelle." I braced myself for the lecture. "Over five thousand years ago, the first of the soul reapers created the Soul King, who resides in the Soul Palace. If you know who Aizen is, you must know that that was where he tried to go.
"After the Soul King was created, the World of the Living, the Soul Society, the Dangai Precipice World and Hueco Mundo were borne, separating the living, the dead and the hollows.
"After the three species were separated, some soul reapers were curious about each one, curious about what it was that separated each species enough that they needed their own world.
"Collecting Reishi from each species, they started experimenting with each separately, learning the properties of each kind.
"Somewhere along the line, they came across the Eyes, and went to inspecting them immediately. Soon after they were created, the Eyes left the soul reapers and went to the World of the Living and they have stayed there ever since."
I stared at him in shock. How did he learn all of this?
"Now," he said before I could speak up. "I'm sure you're wondering who's Reishi was used to create which Eye. The Reishi used to make Rachel came from soul reapers. Michelle came from hollows."
"How do you know this?" I asked suspiciously. I had a feeling in my gut that he was right.
"I'm a half-being," he said, like that explains everything.
"Yeah, and...?" I used my hand and made a rolling gesture.
"Do you know what that means?"
"All I know is that your only half human."
"Do you want to know what the other half is?" he asked icily. I'd guess that he's not comfortable talking about this.
I didn't say anything, but my curiosity started growing. This question has been plaguing my mind for a long time.
"For all half-beings, our mothers were Hollow Hunters, vessels for the Eyes." I stared at him, wide eyed, waiting for him to say psych! But it never came. "As a result, the Eyes passed some unique abilities to their vessel's children."
"Which Eye did your mom have?" I finally asked.
He opened the cell's door and stepped outside, closing it after him. "Michelle," he finally said as he walked away.
I stared after him. 'How much of what he said is true?' I asked the Eyes.
All of it, Rachel answered.
Even when he said that his mom had me as the Eye, Michelle said. That's why I was upset the other day after Yajimaru confronted us for the first time since we came to Karakura Town. I was starting to realize that.
I started eating the food now that Yajimaru was gone. All he gave me was toast and a glass of milk.
When I finished, I kicked the tray away from me and leaned against the wall.
Evie, Rachel said. We have something we need to show you.
'You mean a memory?' I asked inside my head.
Yes, Michelle said.
'Alright.' I sat up straight and crossed my legs. Then I placed my hands, palms down, on my knees. I closed my eyes and concentrated.
When I opened them, I saw that I was in a dark room. It had a hazy feeling and light mist was floating everywhere, as it does for all memories the Eyes show me. In front of me was a women with dark brown hair and purple eyes, like me. She was wearing a black kimono with yellow stars.
"Hello," she spoke. "My name is Evie Ressello." I gasped. Does this mean the Eyes named me after this women? "I am the first Hollow Hunter."
I gaped at her. "You are?" I asked. Of course she didn't answer, but it doesn't hurt to try, right?
"If you are seeing this memory, then Rachel and Michelle, the Eyes, have deemed it important for you to. And I believe you should know that if you are seeing this, you are important. The reason I say this is because the only way to watch this memory is if you are in possession of both the Eyes."
She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. She clasped her hands together, unsure of what to say. She looked up and opened her eyes again. "I'm going to assume that, whoever you may be, know the half-being's-some of which are possibly my children-side of the creation of the Eyes. The summary, the Soul King was created, soul reapers got curious about the three species and created the Eyes, yada, yada, yada. I'm going to tell you the rest.
"The Eyes weren't just created out of nowhere, and they didn't just leave, like the half-beings might have you believe.
"A man by the name of Mayuri Kurotsuchi illegally took a hold of more Reishi from each species. Somehow, he managed to form the Reishi into concentrated Reishi capable of being held. Soon, he managed to turn them into the Eyes, with a mind of their own.
"What I tell you next, you must hear. Mayuri didn't create just two Eyes. In total, five were created. The names of the Eyes are Rachel and Raphael, made from the Reishi of soul reapers, Michelle and Michael, made from hollows, and there is Piper, made from the living humans.
"A certain soul reaper didn't like the plans Mayuri had for the Eyes. Her name was Lya Ressello. My sister.
"She managed to sneak into Mayuri's lab and take away the Eyes.
"I don't understand how, but as she was leaving the Soul Society, Michael and Raphael disappeared. No one has any idea on how it happened, or where they went.
"Getting to the World of the Living, Lya went to me, she knew who I was. When she handed all three Eyes to me, they immediately went inside of me, becoming me. Rachel went into my left hand, Michelle into my right, and Piper," she pointed at her chest, "went to my heart.
"If Piper didn't choose you for her vessel, you won't be able to see the rest of the this memory I created. Goodbye for now." Evie sat up and the mist got so white that it was blinding and I was forced to close my eyes.
When I opened them again, I saw that I was back in my cell.
'So she was the first hollow hunter...'
The Eyes didn't answer.
'What happened to Piper?'
We don't know... they said together.

And yes, I just made Mayuri, our favourite (current) Captain of Squad 12, over 5000 years old.
By the way, the picture at the top is Evie Ressello, the first hollow hunter. Just so you know.
Alright, time to get started on the next chapter! Feel free to
