Chapter One: Belief, Fact, Truth

Hello just a note from the author please don't forget to leave your comments and I will try to answer back. It just leaves me to say thanks for reading. Author out for now.

Ava’s POV:

Belief, fact, and truth.

Belief in a story, a legend, a myth is often easy. But it’s hard proving that belief is actually fact and that makes it true. The trust in the belief changes anything and everything, but proving it; that’s the most important part.

My name is Ava Brooklyn. Our team is known as Teen Wild. But, we weren’t always known as Teen Wild.

There was eight of us: me, Victor, Kerri, Sage, Carter, Lucas, Lucy, and Rikki. So, this is our story and they will tell their part, too.

So, anyway, I just moved to the little town of Hollow Oak with my brother, Ryan. The Brooklyn family has never been to Hollow Oak, so we know next to nothing about this small town.

Ryan says it’s a small and safe town and that everybody knows everybody. But they haven’t met the Brooklyn duo yet.

“Ryan? Where is this house? We’ve been driving for hours.”

He gave me the be patient and let me drive look. He wasn’t in the mood to joke, so I looked back out of my window. After a while, we finally made it. An elderly, weirdly dressed lady was waiting on the drive.

“Mister Brooklyn. Good morning.”

She didn’t even let us get out of the car.

“Ah, this must be your sister. Hello, dear, I’m your landlady, Miss Simmons.”

Okay, creepy would be an understatement. This Miss Simmons was odd, crazy, and creepy.

“So, what’s your name, sweety?”

Okay, now this got awkward. My brother looked at me as if to say don’t freak out or hit this woman.

“Ava.”

I don’t like this woman at all. I could tell that Ryan didn’t either.

“Ava? Short for Avelyn, I’m sure.”

I hate it when people say my name. My name is Ava, not Avelyn.

Ryan’s POV:
“It’s just Ava, Miss Simmons. Can you show my sister and I around, please?”

I reached for Ava’s hand. Her name, Avelyn, brought back bad memories.

“Of course, Mr. Brooklyn. This way.”

After showing us around, the old lady left.

“What do you think, Av? Avy? You listening?”

She was in her own world. Decorating the house, putting our stuff inside.

“You’ve got school tomorrow, Snips.”

Snips was one of my many nicknames for Ava. She disliked this one the most.

“I guess. School is just school, Boots.”

Yet, Boots was one of my many nicknames.

“Come on, are you still upset about Miss Crazy Landlady?”

At this point, I had pulled her off the ladder and sat her on the couch to eat.

“You know I don’t care for school. I want to investigate and explore.”

Ava’s POV:
As soon as I finished dinner, I went back to work for a bit. Tomorrow would be my first day at school. With that thought in mind, I fell to sleep.

“Giggles, time to wake up. You’ve got school and I need to get to the gym.”

Ryan was a boxer. He was a teacher and a champion, back in our old town. He has a job here, but he mainly works nights. So, he dropped me off at Oak Moore High.

It was bigger than my old school, but I could already tell I wasn’t going to like it here.

As I walked in, I could tell the popular kids to the bullies, bullies to bad boys, bad boys to nerds, nerds to jocks, jocks to bad girls, and bad girls to rich kids. I walked down the corridor to see a rich girl holding up a nerd.

At first, I was going to walk away, keep my head down. But then, I couldn’t walk away even if I tried.

“Hey! Leave her alone!”

She took one look at me and then went back to hit her.

“Didn’t you hear me, you rich bimbo? I said leave her alone!”

She swung for me, but I blocked her and pushed her up against the locker.

“Next time, when I tell you something the first time, I mean it.”

She ran off with her gang of girls and I was left with the girl on the floor with a bloody nose.

“Hey, are you okay? I’m Ava.”

She stood up and wiped her nose on her sleeve before a herd of people walked over.

“Lucie, you okay? Is she bothering you?”

All six of them crowed over me, shoving they called Lucie out of the way.

“Guys, no, she’s okay. She stopped Britney. She’s new; her name’s Ava.”

They all stopped to look at me with curiosity like I was an alien.

“Okay, then. I’m Kerri, this is Rikki, Sage, Carter, Lucas, Victor, and you already know Lucy.”

As the day went on, we all became friends. Well, all except Victor; he didn’t like me much. During my last lesson, we were all in the same class; a project was set and we got to work together.

I suggested they come to my house.

I knew Ryan was working all night, so no one would disturb us. Of course, we had more fun than work. Soon, we were playing truth or dare.

We were playing for hours and they told me how much trouble they would get into if they picked dare.

Lucas told me once, he had to run around the school in nothing but his underwear. Rikki told me about the time she had to kiss a teacher.

It was hilarious, but I would never have done things like that. Not even for a dare.

The topic then went on to the town, a topic even Victor perked up to talk about. Mind you, all the pompous rich kids could talk about was his family.

Then it went on to the so-called ‘haunted woods.’

“You see, Ava, the founding father, my ancestors, the Sinclairs, LeBeaus, Coles, Mitchells, and the Lockwoods really hated each other. So, they divided the land and the Mitchell family got the woods. One of their ancestors was sick of his life and for some reason, he killed his family and himself. They say their ghosts haunt Hollow Brook. Waiting. Lurking.”

Okay, I’m all up for a history lesson, but I don’t believe in bedtime stories, or nightmare stories to frighten kids.

“Don’t believe me, Brooks? Well, I don’t remember the Brooklyn family living here.”

I stood up and grabbed the bottle from the table and spun it around. As it spun, I called his bluff.

“Okay, rich boy. If the bottle lands on you, you can ask me any dare you want. But only as long as I don’t hear any more of this stupid haunted woods.”

He laughed and true to form, the bottle landed on him. The others began to call out.

“Don’t even think about it.”

“No, Victor. It’s just a stupid story.”

A smirk rested on his face and he looked up at me.

“Okay, Miss I-don’t-want-to-hear-about-the-stupid-haunted-woods. I dare you to camp in Hollow Brook.”

They all gasped and an encore of the noisy chorus began again.

“Don’t do it, Ava. It’s just a stupid game.”

I wasn’t going to back out, but I had a trick up my sleeve.

“You’re on, Sinclair. But you all have to camp out with me.”
