Happy New Years, Reyna~ 2016/2017

Third PoV

The hunters were invited along with Camp Half Blood to Camp Jupiter for New Years. There was going to be a big celebration to welcome in a new year of peace between the demigods. Thalia Grace was particularly excited because that also meant she got to see her girlfriend of two months, Reyna Avila Ramirez-Arellano, for the first time in the last month. Their schedules as being the leader of the Hunters of Artemis and praetor of Camp Jupiter prevented them from seeing each other very often. Their forced long distance relationship put a little strain on their relationship, but most of the time they didn't mind. They Iris messaged each other everyday, much to the laughter and playful teasing of their friends. They both felt like this was going to be the best day ever.

That morning, Thalia woke up with the sunrise like all of the other hunters did. While everyone got ready for the day, Thalia walked a little ways into the woods they were camped in and sat down on a fallen log. She took out her golden locket and opened it, revealing a small picture of her and Reyna, arm in arm and laughing at the photo.

"You miss her."

Thalia spun around and had her hunter's knife at the neck of the person who spoke faster than the person could call for help. The person didn't look surprised or alarmed, and Thalia took a step back in recognition before sheathing her knife. "Phoenix, you startled me. I... Yeah. I miss her." Thalia said quietly.

Phoenix smiled and sat down on the log with Thalia following suit. "I'm sorry for scaring you. You'll see her tonight though. Don't worry."

"What if something happens like it always does?" Thalia asked in exasperation.

"I guess we'll just have to do what we always do then," Phoenix got up and offered her hand. Thalia took it, and they walked back to camp.

While the hunters were getting ready for the day, Reyna had woken up and started to get ready as well. She needed to have a meeting with the party planning committee which included the children of Vulcan, Hephaestus, Mercury, Hermes, Bacchus, and Dionysius. Unfortunately, Dakota and Leo were the heads of the committee, so Reyna really didn't know what to expect with them planning the party. In truth, she didn't really want to find out. That's where being praetor has its disadvantages. She and Frank had to meet with the committee one last time to finalize the plans and make sure no one was going to die in the process. They both knew, however, Dakota and Leo were bound to shy away from the approved plans anyway, so they felt this formality was pointless. The only comfort Reyna felt about the whole thing was that there will be medics on hand, and Thalia would be coming.

Reyna sat back on her bed, fingering the matching locket Thalia had given her. Just then there was a knock on the door. Reyna bolted out of bed and started running her fingers through her hair in an attempt to untangle it. "Come in!" She shouted.

Frank walked into her room and closed the door behind him. "I just wanted to make sure you were up. We have the meeting in thirty minutes, and Hazel and I didn't see you in the dining hall."

"Oh. Yeah, I'll be down in a minute. Thanks, Frank." Reyna gave him a small smile, but Frank knew something was wrong.

He sat down on the edge of her bed, and she sat down next to him. She started to fiddle with the locket. Frank noticed. "You're thinking about her, aren't you?" He asked softly.

Reyna nodded. A small worried smile played on her lips. "I'm worried something is going to go wrong. I haven't seen her in a month. What if something happens, and she can't make it?"

She looked up into Frank's eyes, and Frank smiled softly at her. "I'm sure she'll be fine. I may not know Thalia very well, but from what I do know about her and from what Jason has said, I know she won't let anything get in the way of seeing you. They'll make it here. I know they will."

Reyna smiled even more. "Thanks, Frank. Come on. Hazel is probably wondering where you are."

Through out the day, Reyna and Frank had been kept busy running around the entire Roman camp as they settled disputes, put out fires (Leo got a little overexcited), helped put up party decorations, and made sure no one died by the stampede of fauns that were trying to get at the party food. At eight a' clock at night, Reyna was ready to collapse, but everything was finished. Now they only had to wait for Thalia and the hunters to show up in a few minutes. However, it soon became apparent that Thalia wasn't having the greatest day either. A half an hour later, the two guards that were standing at the entrance of the camp heard shouting and sounds of battle. They looked around and saw the hunters were being chased by an army of monsters. One guard ran to go help the girls, and the other ran inside the camp to alert Reyna.

Thalia had run out of arrows a while ago, having been chased for most of the day. She had her shield, Aegis, out and was using one of her hunting knives to fight back. Most of the other hunters had also resorted to using knives for they had also ran out of arrows. Thankfully, no one had died, but they were all injured and tired. The guard that ran to help them caught up with Thalia and told her help was coming. Thalia nodded and turned to the other hunters and yelled, "Fall back!"

The hunters turned around and ran toward the entrance of the camp. The monsters, smelling victory, ran after them faster than they had before. When the hunters reached the entrance, they turned around and started fighting again. A second later, there was a battle cry, and Reyna led a small army of demigods into battle. She and Thalia stood back to back. Reyna lent her strength to her girlfriend and the other hunters. Thalia used her powers over lightening to vaporize a line of monsters.

"What took you so long?" Reyna shouted over the sounds of battle.

"I was a little busy!" Theyna replied, slashing a hellhound that tried to bite Reyna's arm.

"Why do I let you get into trouble?" Reyna asked in exasperation as she sliced down a dracaena.

"I don't get into trouble, sweety," Thalia replied, rolling her eyes and kicking a cyclops in the eye. "Trouble finds me."

Soon, the army of monsters was nothing but a sea of dust. Everyone cheered, and ambrosia was passed out to those who needed it. Thalia tapped her shield, and it turned back into a bracelet. She turned and smiled at her girlfriend while crossing her arms. "Thanks for the help, but we didn't need it."

Reyna rolled her eyes and smirked. "Sure. Of course you didn't need our help."

Thalia smiled even bigger. "Gods I missed you."

"I missed you too," Reyna laughed.

They kissed, and there was loud wolf whistling coming from a small group nearest them. "Theyna is OTP!!" Percy shouted.

Nico smirked and crossed his arms. "I thought you said Solangelo was OTP."

"They are both my OTP!" Percy shouted. Jason high fived him, and went to go give Thalia a hug.

Nico shook his head in exasperation while Will laughed. Reyna walked up to Nico and gave him a hug. "You guys are adorable you know that?" She asked teasingly.

"I am not adorable," Nico said through gritted teeth. "You and Thalia are though."

Reyna shook her head, smiling slightly, and ruffled Nico's hair. She walked up to Thalia and took her hand. Then they led the group back into camp to start the festivities. Reyna and Thalia mostly stayed off to the side. Both were too exhausted to do more than anything but talk. They traded stories about their adventures in the last month, and joked and played around with each other.

At an hour to midnight, they found themselves on the dance floor. Reyna laughed at Thalia's inability to dance while Thalia shot death glares at her which only made her crack up harder. Soon, they were both laughing and trying to hold each other up in an attempt to dance. The final song for the evening came on. It was a slow dance, and Reyna held out her hand to her girlfriend. "May I take this dance?"

Thalia fought to keep from laughing again and tried to make a straight face. "You may."

They waltzed around the dance floor for what seemed like eternity. Both stared into each other's eyes. The song ended at one minute to midnight. They kept holding hands. Both were still breathless from the laughing and dancing. "That was fun," Thalia said.

"Yeah, it was," Reyna agreed while smiling.

Thirty seconds to midnight. They stood closer together and looked up at the starry sky. The stars were shining brightly, and the moon was smiling down softly at the earth.

Ten seconds to midnight.
Nine.
Eight.
"I love you," Thalia whispered. Reyna stood in shock for a second. That was the first time Thalia said that she loved her.

Five.
Four.
"I love you too," Reyna breathed back, smiling.

Two.
One.
The girls jammed their lips together as Leo's fireworks rocketed off into the air. People shouted, "Happy New Year!" To their friends and family. Couples stood, kissing their partners, but to Thalia and Reyna, there was only two people in the world. Each other. They kissed happily as fireworks shot off in the background.

Everything was perfect.

Happy New Year guys! I hope you guys have a great new year because I think everyone agrees, 2016 sucked. Here is to wishing next year will be better! Have a great day and a happy new year!
