Chapter 8

Vylad's P.O.V.

(Y/N), sat up pulling a dagger out, and held it against my throat. I gently placed my hand on her wrist. "(Y/N)."

"Vylad?" Her ears turned red as she moved the dagger from my throat. "Sorry... I was just having a nightmare..."

"Do you get them often?"

"Ever since my mother died." She hummed, setting the dagger on the dash.

"I'm sorry."

"Don't be. It's not worth it. She deserved to die anyway."

"You seemed to have a pretty tough life for a girl who skipped two grades. But you're pretty savage with any weapon."

"Tch, thanks... why are we stopped?"

"Garroth had to use the bathroom." She looked out the window.

"Oh the man thing." She giggled. "Where you pee in the woods?"

"Yeah, it's pretty gross actually." I chuckled. She moved closer to me, and I wrapped an arm around her waist. "If this ever ends... would you possibly want to... you know, go on a date?"

"Hm? Really?"

"I mean... you seem pretty cool, and we had our thing back in high school... did you maybe want to pick up where we left off?"

"You mean this?" She asked, moving onto her knees and planting a kiss on my cheek. When she sat back on her heels she moved her face to hide her blush.

"I remember it a little more like this," I replied, tilting her head towards me. I slowly brushed my lips against hers, and she shivered at the contact. I felt small sparks ignite as she smiled, holding my head in place. Slowly she moved in and pressed her lips to mine, and I felt my heart skip a few beats.

Her fingers found their way into my hair, and I wrapped an arm around her waist, pressing my other hand against the windshield. I slowly pushed her back so she was leaning on the door and she pulled away to breath. "I'd like that."

"Me too," I mumbled, pressing my lips to her temple, and moving back to give her some space. She smiled at me and stayed in the same position.

"We're ready to go back here!" Zane exclaimed, and I grinned towards (Y/N), before buckling in and starting the truck.

Your P.O.V.

I couldn't help but glance at Vylad every now and then. His eyes were focused on the road, but a smile was branded onto his face. He didn't seem to notice me smiling at him. Hell, I was in pain, but the pain was gradually fading as we kept on driving. "How do you think this all started?"

"Hm? What do you mean?" He asked, glancing at me slightly.

"Like the Roamers. Who do you think did this?"

"Probably the same people who're trying to find the cure in your blood."

"Yeah, but what if the cure doesn't work, what if it's just temporary? What if I do turn?" My chest suddenly felt heavy as I tried to think of how that feels.

"Hey, that's not going to happen... and if you do turn..."

"I want you to kill me." I finished my thought as he placed his hand over mine.

"But it won't happen." He repeated. I moved one of my fingers over the radio button, and glanced at Vylad.

"Think anyone's still broadcasting?"

"I doubt it, but you can't check." He chuckled. I clicked the button and all we could hear was static, so I turned the knob until I heard a soft humming. "What is this?"

"..." I remained silent as I listened.

"(Y/N)? Do you know this?

"Sorta, it's a little way into the song, but I know some of the lyrics." I replied. "It's like a karaoke track, but someone is humming it."

"Well... do you want to sing it?.

"Uh... sure." Vylad opened the window to the back so the others could hear. I took a deep breath, turning up the radio to hear better.

"And if we should die tonight
Then we should all die together
Raise a glass of wine for the last time

Calling out father oh
Prepare as we will
Watch the flames burn auburn on
The mountain side
Desolation comes upon the sky

Now I see fire
Inside the mountain
I see fire
Burning the trees
And I see fire
Hollowing souls
I see fire
Blood in the breeze
And I hope that you remember me

Oh, should my people fall
Then surely I'll do the same
Confined in mountain halls
We got too close to the flame

Calling out father oh
Hold fast and we will
Watch the flames burn auburn on
The mountain side
Desolation comes upon the sky

Now I see fire
Inside the mountain
I see fire
Burning the trees
I see fire
Hollowing souls
I see fire
Blood in the breeze
And I hope that you remember me-"

The humming was cut off by screaming and I gasped, taken aback as the cries for help rang through the radio. Quickly, I turned off the radio, not wanting to think what happened. "Guys what happened?"

The three in the back were probably searching for answers, but I only had one. "The person broadcasting was attacked."

"Oh my Irene." Aphmau whispered.

"Do you think we're the only ones left?" Garroth asked. Solemnly, I shake my head.

"We can't be. There have to be survivors... and if we are the only ones then... we are O.D.L."

"What does that mean?" Zane scoffed.

"Out of Damn Luck," Vylad answered for me, staring with empty eyes at the road.

"Right... anyways now pull over, I'm gonna take a turn driving. Are you guys good back there?"

"We're fine so far." Aphmau answered.

"Okay, then keep everything in order, and don't waist our supplies." I ordered as I climbed over Vylad to get in the drivers seat. "Also hold onto something. I'm speeding this thing up a bit."

I cracked my knuckles then my neck and grabbed the stearing wheel. "Ready?"

"Ready." Everyone replied.

"Good." Then floored it and we zoomed down the empty high way, occasionally dodging cars. "We should be pretty close to, O'Khasis City."
