Give him a chance (part five)
T.W: slurs, mention of homophobia and transphobia, implied dysphoria, anxiety
*
Swinging from building to building isn't freeing tonight, and it annoys Peter. He knows the reason behind though, he knows it's just the nervousness playing with his heart. But if he can concentrate on his current task, if he can be a little be at ease while jumping between the rooftops, why is he even in patrol? He needs to be present – to feel present – in order to do his job, and he hates the fact that he is letting his stupid worries take over him and take his focus away.
It's not that he doesn't like thinking about Wade – it's rather the opposite – but having bad thoughts about their upcoming date isn't what he prefers. He despises doubt, with all his might, but here he is, doubting everything. Why are they going on a date when they have so different lives? Could it even work out if they were to be together? Wouldn't it hurt De with all the immortality thing going on? Would his aunt and the team accept? Would people see him as a gay man or just a confused girl who wants attention?
The teen has been okay with his sexuality since as long as he can remember; though his gender made it quite hard to put a label on it. Still, he can't help but wonder how people will perceive him in the streets, when he will be hands in hands with his significant other – if he's dating a girl, they will probably call him a dyke like Flash does, but if he dates a boy, they will call him a brat or something like that; and they wouldn't even know what non-binary means. So he worries. Peter worries because he wants nothing more but to pass, and never have to hear the wrong pronoun when addressing to him again. He wants nothing more but to be able to be free – and if he has to hear slurs, he wants them to at least be the right ones, even though it probably doesn't make sense. He prefers to be insulted for what he is rather than for what he isn't.
Tripping over the edge of a rooftop, the boy is suddenly brought out of his thoughts by the wave of pain he feels in his body. He knew it – thinking so hard while swinging wasn't a good idea. Mumbling a little and caressing the part of his back that hit the floor the hardest, he gets back up and starts walking to the edge, sitting once he reaches it. He just has to wait now.
He's usually one of the patient kind, but today his personality seems to be turned upside down, and each second that passes feels like eternity. He lost the count of the number of times he sighed today – but he obviously reached a new record, enough to catch his friends' attention. They asked him questions throughout the day, and though he really wanted to turn them down, he figured that maybe explaining what was bothering him to someone would help – it didn't. His fears only increased after wording them, new ones appearing while he was trying to explain the others, and it turned out to be a vicious circle. The more he talked, the more worried he was, and the more lost he got into his panic.
Peter really wants to stop thinking so hard. It won't bring him any good to worry so much before his date. Letting out a sigh once again, he presses the spider located on his torso and steps back of his suit once it loosened up. Wade and him didn't agree about whether they should be dressed casual or ready to patrol, but the boy figured that looking nice would be the best. Quickly, he puts his suit in the backpack he took with him, only keeping the mask in his hand before sliding it on his head once again – he maybe wants to appear nice, but they still didn't show each other their faces.
Humming a little, the teen starts to put on the ground the multiple articles of food he brought from home, and tries to settle them nicely after putting a blanket on the ground. As he does so, he retains a urge to laugh at himself. He must seems so cringy right now, with the nice clothes, the nice dishes, the nice blanket... Everything could be coming from a cheesy romantic movie – and it makes him doubt for a second. Did he do too much? He never had a date like that (or a date at all, considering that Homecoming from last year was a disaster and wasn't exactly one), and his anxiety is going to eat him alive. Are there things you should and shouldn't do? Is he supposed to kiss Wade at the end if it goes well? Is he supposed to take him back to his house before returning to his own home? Was it even appropriate to arrive so early? He doesn't know, and it's to late to worry about it – or to find answers.
Peter's hands shaking slightly, he sits on the blanket with his legs crossed. At least he didn't bring flowers, that would probably have been too much – plus, he doesn't know if De like those, nor what type he prefers, and asking him directly wouldn't have been subtle at all. The boy really hopes he will surprise the other a little bit. He knows he doesn't have to prove himself, but he wants to show him that he thinks he is worth it – he read Wade depreciating himself over texts to many times. He wants to show him that he deserves it, and that someone wants to do nice things for him.
This is what confuses Peter the most. He really wants to give his all to Deadpool, to try and get to know him better, to make him smile, laugh and be happy. But on the other hand, he doesn't really know if he should start that kind of relationship with him – or with anyone at all. He doesn't doubt that the boy is loveable, he is, but Peter can't help and see each and every little problem that could happen just because of himself. He doesn't want to impose that to De, he doesn't want to risk and make him sad. Hell, he doesn't even know if the guy would accept him even though he is trans. There are too many possibilities for it to go wrong, for them to get hurt; he can't find himself only focusing on the good things and let him take a bigger place into his life. Peter really wants to give him a chance, it's probably worth it, but is it really? Won't it just make everything worse? Won't it make them vulnerable when they're on patrol? Won't it-
"Spideyy!" Wade's excited tone stops his train of thoughts, and Peter is quick to look in the direction of the scream, laughing when he sees the leather guy trip on an invisible rock. "I brought enchiladas!"
The smile that he can hear in his voice makes the boy chuckle. Instantly, he forgets his worries, focusing on Deadpool as he runs towards where he is sitting, showing him a plastic bag.
Peter shakes his head a bit before rolling his mask up to his nose and smiling, "Of course you did, De."
He chews lightly on his bottom lip as the teen drops down in front of him, a hand still behind his back.
"But that's not all!" Wade says in a singing tone, as he puts his mask in the the same position as Peter's with his free hand, before facing him and offering him a teasing smirk. "Close your eyes."
The words make the brunet furrow his brows. However, he does as told, even putting his palms in front of his face to show Deadpool that he isn't cheating. He waits a few seconds before feeling the guy's touch on one of his wrists, laying it on his lap and carefully putting something into his grip. Peter almost jumps when he feels the cold and the wetness enter in contact with his skin, before calming himself and touching the object. He finds himself confused when he can feel what seems to be multiple hard threads in his palm, and he opens his mouth – but says nothing. He doesn't know what to ask.
Still in the dark, he hears Wade chuckle at his confusion. "You can open your eyes now."
Peter is quick to do as he's told, snatching his hand away from his eyes and looking back. As soon as he registers what lays in his grip, his face heats up, turning a crimson colour, and he has to bite his lip in order not to grin too much. And, well hidden under his mask, his eyes water slightly.
"They made me think of you," the teen sitting in front of him appears shy now, scratching the back of his head and his skin turning as red as Peter's, "'cause you're kinda like the sun in my opinion so... yeah..."
The boy stays silent, staring both the gorgeous bouquet of sunflowers in his lap and Wade. He feels the sudden urge to hug him, and to keep him in his arms until the end of the night – but he doesn't. Instead, he carefully puts the flowers next to him before moving towards the other boy, and offering him the brightest smile he can. Once he is close enough, he lays down a little and kisses his cheek a little longer than necessary, before sitting back in his original position. He really wants to erupt in laugher when he catches a glance of Wade's state – red as ever, mouth wide open in shock and fists gripping his thighs tightly. It's fun to tease him, and most importantly, it makes his own heart pound harder but somehow feel lighter, and his chest warms up every time, his stomach tickling a little.
"Thanks" he mutters in a shy voice, looking at a still choked Deadpool.
Peter uses the time the man stays still to get a proper look at him. He didn't notice at first, but he did the same thing as him – wear casual clothes, though he is really nicely dressed. The black button-up shirt points out his wide and muscled shoulders, the sleeves slightly rolled up on his forearm; added to his black dressed trousers, Wade really is handsome. The boy never doubted it, well aware that because of his activity as a mercenary his body should be well-built, but now that he sees the style he can wear except his leather suit – not that leather doesn't suit him, not at all – he can't help but nib at his bottom lip while checking him out. Slowly, he lets his glaze fall on the little part visible of the guy's collarbones, going further up, caressing his sharp jaw with his eyes. Peter finds him really attractive, like he never found someone before.
"Enjoying the view?"
The teasing voice makes him jump slightly as he meets Wade's eyes, his face going red. The shock left the guy's expression, and his lips now form a smirk as he shifts his position into a more comfortable one – Peter refuses to think that he decided to lean back on his hands a little as one his legs rests on the floor and the other stays up on purpose, that would be evil.
The boy gulps as his eyes scan De one last time. "Dunno..." he says in the same tone once he manages to hide his surprise, "you enjoyed my kiss?"
If the question takes him aback, Deadpool surely doesn't let it be seen. Slowly, his grin grows wider and Peter can only imagine the way one of his brow raises.
"Did you?"
The boy lets a chuckle escape his lips. If they start asking each other the same question over and over again, they won't even have eaten when the sun will be up once again. Gently, he moves the bouquet of sunflowers a little bit further, next to his bag, and gestures to every item he put down before his date arrived.
"Come closer," he explains still in a slight teasing voice, "you maybe came with flowers, but I brought lots of foods."
Facing him, Wade laughs with him while he shakes his head, and approaches him to sit by his side, already staring at their dinner. Silently, he leans down and puts the enchiladas' bag on the blanket before offering a huge smile to Peter.
"So," he starts as he takes the two plastic cup and the bottle of juice the teen brought and serves them, "how was your day?"
I tried my best to write fluff, I really did, and i think that it's not so bad for once! How was it in your opinion? Any advices?
I really enjoy building Wade's and Pete's relationship, I just feel like they are similar in a way and I really like their duo. (I'll say it once again, Wade is aged down in this story! I know he is originally way older than Peter, but not here, I just wanted to make it clear once more.)
I hope you liked it, feel free to like and comment (and even submit some ideas you have, maybe they'll inspire me) !
Stay safe and hydrate,
H.
