TW: crying, hospital, talks about suicide attempt, talks about meds, mentions the OR, more crying

~~~~~~~~
The entire car ride was torture for Roman. Each red light he had to stop at increased his worry tenfold, knowing that each minute Virgil wasn't at the hospital increased the chance of him not making it through this.
When Roman finally pulled into a parking spot, he raced out of the car to Virgil's side. When he opened the door, he pressed his hand to Virgil's chest, letting out a sob of relief when he felt Virgil's faint heartbeat.
Lifting Virgil out of the seat, Roman raced into the ER, stopping at the nurse's desk.
"How may I help you?" one of the nurses asked, his gaze still on the computer screen in front of him.
"P-please, m-my husband..." Roman stuttered out, trying not to sob as tears streamed down his face. "H-he attempted s-suicide..."
At that, the nurse looked up, his eyes widening when he saw Roman holding Virgil.
"Oh my god," he said, running out from behind the desk. "Follow me."
Roman nodded, following the nurse down the halls to an empty room. The nurse told Roman to place Virgil in the empty bed, running back into the hall as Roman did so. When he returned, three other people followed him, all of them flocking around Virgil and Roman.
"Sir, what happened?" one of them asked, leading Roman a few steps away from Virgil.
"Um... we had gotten into an... an argument this evening," Roman started explaining, tears still falling and sobs interrupting his sentences. "A-and at one point... I closed my eyes to... to try to calm down. A-and then I opened my eyes and Virgil... Virgil wasn't there... and the bathroom door slammed shut. I raced to the bathroom... a-and the door was locked... and I heard him crying... and he said 'I'm sorry,' before I heard something fall... I broke the door open... and he was lying on the floor... his arm was c-covered in blood... and a pill bottle was lying next to him."
The doctor nodded, witing it all down on a clipboard. "What did the bottle contain?"
"It had his antidepressants," Roman answered, wringing his hands. "He's taking citalopram."
"What is his dosage?" the doctor asked.
"40mg," Roman said, and the doctor drew in a breath.
"How many pills did the bottle contain?"
"About 30 40mg pills, I think?" Roman recalled, and the doctor dropped the clipboard.
"We need to get his stomach pumped immediately," he said, rushing back to the others in the room. "The patient ingested about 1200mg of citalopram at once."
When the others heard that, they dropped everything else and wheeled Virgil out of the hospital room, the whole time debating anesthesia and what strength suction. Roman followed them to the door before the nurse from before stopped him.
"You can't go back to the OR," he said sadly, resting a hand on Roman's shoulder.
"B-but he- I- what if-" Roman stuttered, watching Virgil get wheeled down the hall and around a corner. Fresh tears pooled in Roman's eyes, and he tried to blink them away. That just ended with them rolling down his cheeks.
"Sshhh," the nurse whispered. "Let's go inside and sit, okay?"
Roman numbly nodded, allowing the nurse to lead him into the room and over to the couch that was in a corner. The nurse gently coaxed Roman to sit before sitting next to him.
The two sat in almost silence while Roman cried, the nurse gently rubbing his shoulder. After a few minutes, Roman let out a deep sigh and spoke.
"W-will he be okay?" he asked quietly, his voice filled with worry.
"I'm sure he will be," the nurse said comfortingly, still rubbing his shoulder. "He's very lucky to have someone who cares as much as you do. Your love, dedication, and quick action saved his life."
"R-really?" Roman asked, his eyebrows raising.
"I'm certain of it, kiddo," he said before squeezing Roman's shoulder lightly. "Now you should try and sleep. It's rather late, and you've had a very stressful day.
"But what if-"
"Hush, kiddo," the nurse said, interrupting Roman. "Virgil will be fine. He'll most likely be back in the room when you wake up."
Roman nodded slowly. "Yeah... yeah, I should sleep.
The nurse smiled gently, getting up and grabbing a pillow and blanket from a closet in the room, handing the two to Roman. Roman nodded in thanks before setting the pillow onto the couch and spreading out the blanket.
"I-I'm sorry, but, um, what's your name?" Roman asked quietly as he saw the nurse turn to leave.
"My name's Patton, kiddo," Patton responded, turning around and flashing Roman a small smile.
Roman smiled, nodding. "I'm Roman."
"I wish we were meeting under better circumstances, Roman," Patton said sadly, placing a hand on Roman's shoulder.
"Me too," Roman sighed and looked down at his lap, yawning.
When Roman looked up again, Patton was gone, leaving him alone in the room to try and sleep.
