So Close
Pidge POV
Pounding on the walls did nothing but hurt my hands, and I was already exhausted enough from the electric shocks she had given me. I rested my forehead against the glass, the coolness of it calming me down a bit.
After the Lions had flown away from the pod we were on, they had taken with them my last shard of hope. My bond with Green was getting weaker by the hour, and soon, I wasn't sure if I would be able to feel her anymore.
Moving my forehead from the glass, turning around and sliding my back down it, I pulled my knees up to my chin and took inventory of what was happening.
I was stuck in my own mind, my body being controlled by this-- imposter, or Imp, for short. I had taken to calling her that, as she couldn't go by Pidge, because that was me, and there was no way on the good Earth back home that I would call her Katie.
The others wouldn't be coming for a while. Even through our weakened bond I could feel Green's distress and vaguely the other lions' too, as they listened to their pack mate's roar.
I understood why they had left, but at the same time I felt abandoned. Alone. Heck, I would even take Lance being here if it meant I felt less helpless and lost and alone.
I gave a little snort at that, the tips of my mouth turning up. I made it seem like I didn't like him, but he could be extremely smart when he wasn't being an idiot. It made it hard not to care for him.
So much so, that I had started to have a little crush on him. Not at first, no, definitely not. But after we had flown in Voltron for the first time, and him helping me to find GAC in the fountains at the space mall, a little part of me was starting to like him.
And, holy crow, that made me miss them more. My eyebrows scrunched together and I jumped up, determined to break this wall. I hadn't been able to do it earlier, but maybe if I just tried harder....
Roughly half an hour later
"Why. Won't. You. Break?!"
It seemed pure strength wasn't going to cut it. I panted, hanging my hands, and then thinking of Green, Lance, of everybody else. I raised my fists again and pounded some more.
"Break!"
My hands again dropped and I knocked my forehead against the glass, leaving it there as tears streamed down my face. I was done. Done with feeling lonely, with feeling useless.
"I'm so done," I sobbed. I lost my balance for a minute and my shoulder slammed into the glass, sending me to the ground. "I just want to go home." I was laying on the ground and didn't know which home I wanted, but either one would do right now.
After I had stopped pounding, I started to listen to the silence. If I hadn't been trapped, it might have been calming.
Then the silence was broken. I could hear pounding feet, and I bolted upright, my fists coming automatically to the glass as I tried to see what it was. Slowly, the figure came into view.
They were wearing paladin armor with--were those blue accents?!
"Pidge!" he yelled.
"Lance!"
He was getting closer and closer, and pretty soon he was able to pound on the glass.
I sighed heavily. "It's no use. I've tried that already."
"Maybe you didn't try hard enough," he grunted, continuing to pound.
"Lance, stop. Don't waste your energy. How did you get here in the first place?"
He finally stopped and leaned against the glass, looking into my eyes. "I don't know. Last night I fell asleep and suddenly I was here, watching you and that look-a-like. I was there until she shocked you, and then I started to fade away. Where exactly am I, anyway?"
"You're in my mind, as best I understand it."
"If this is your mind, then why is it so dark? Shouldn't it be alright with ideas and comments and snark in general?"
I snorted. "It is when I'm not behind this barrier." I folded my arms and looked down.
"You mean..."
"Yup. I'm trapped in my own mind."
He was silent for a couple of minutes, his hand on the glass, and then I realized he was fading again. My eyes widened and I shouted, "don't go!" I reached for his hand, even though I knew we couldn't touch, and for just a second my tiny hand was against his, with the barrier inbetween.
He looked down and said, "we're coming for you, Pidge! Don't give u--" and he was gone.
My hand dropped from the barrier, and I looked down to the floor. I wouldn't let the tears come. They were coming for me. I knew it now.
Lance POV
I woke up again, panting, my eyes wide. Last night when I had had the dream where Pidge was being shocked, I had been determined to get answers. Then Allura drilled us most of the day and I never got the chance. But now was as good of a time as any.
I leapt out of bed and raced for Blue's hangar, still in my pajamas.
When I reached his hangar, my hand stretched to his mouth, and I hoped I was right, and that this would take me to the lounge type thing, where we met them last time.
It did, and I stumbled when I couldn't feel Blue's mouth anymore.
The Lions had been talking, but at my arrival, the were silent.
I let the silence sit for about two seconds--that was the span of my patience right now-- and then shouted, "why do I keep having these dreams?!"
Blue took a step forward. "Lance, what dreams?"
"The dreams with Pidge in them. Where she's stuck behind that barrier."
Now Green stepped forward, pain in her eyes. "If this is a trick..."
"It's not! She said that air was her mind and that the Adlim had trapped her there."
She took another step. "Her mind? You were in her mind?"
"Yeah." I looked to Blue, extremely puzzled now.
She glanced at Blue, and he nodded. She took another few quick steps until she was in my personal space and quickly asked, "do I have your permission?"
"Uhh, for what?" I started to back away, but she matched my steps.
"I'm going to intrude on your bond with Blue for a little bit. See if I can find Pidge."
Before I could answer, she shot one hand to my chest and put the other on my forehead.
Suddenly, I could feel her, and could also feel her searching through my memories, stopping at the ones of Pidge, and my tiny crush on her. "So that's how," she murmured. The sound echoed through my head, and I assumed she said it out loud for the benefits of the Lions not part of this bond.
She pushed through my mind a little further, searching for something.
She finally apparently found it, because I found myself in the black space I had been in like half an hour ago.
There was Pidge in her box, and I guessed that she felt Green before she saw her, because she kept up and started searching for us.
"Green? Green! Where are you?"
Green started running, and then Pidge's voice turned to horror.
"Wait, no! You can't be here. You have to leave!"
"What? No, I'm not going anywhere until I get you back," Green said.
"No, you don't understand. Imp's coming, and she can't see you here."
"Who's Imp?" Green asked, her hands on the barrier between them.
"The person who's taken over my body. She's has us on a planet, and I don't know what's happening. I can only see snippets of what she's doing, but she's coming now and you have to leave!"
My eyes widened and my heart thumped faster. Imp was going to feed, and we hadn't found Pidge yet.
I ran into Pidge's view and her eyes widened even further. "No, neither if you can be here! She'll--" she stopped and her face went white.
"Pidge, what's happening?" Green asked, fearful for her paladin.
"A galra ship just entered the atmosphere, headed for my body. I don't know what's going to happen, but you. Need. To. Leave!"
She hit the glass with every word, and I could feel myself being pulled back to my body. I struggled against it, and so did Green, but neither of us could do anything.
The last I saw of Pidge, she had a hand through the barrier, and looked to be trying to shove her way through after making the hole, and then she froze.
Imp came into view, and that was when Green and I were pulled back to our bodies in the lounge.
I stumbled again and fell on the floor, Green following me down.
She pounded on the floor, tears running down her cheeks. "NO! We were so close."
The Lions shot me a look and I shook my head. "We were able to find her, but we couldn't get her out."
"How did you find her?" asked Red.
"Through Lance's connection with her," said Green, sitting up.
Blue gave me a small smile. "Looks like that crush paid off."
My cheeks flamed and Green snorted. "Yeah. I wouldn't have been able to find her without that."
I couldn't say anything to that, and Blue helped me stand up. "You need to go back to bed. That would have taken a lot of energy, and rest is the best thing for you.
I shook my head. "I don't want to dream."
Blue rested his hand on my shoulder. "Don't worry, you won't."
I nodded, and found myself back in his hangar. I sat down on the floor, listened to the door open and close as five others came in.
Shiro placed a hand on my shoulder. "The Lions told us what happened."
I shook my head, trying to delay the inevitable. "We were so close," I choked out.
Hunk helped me to stand, and they guided me back to my room, like a guard, standing watch and on the lookout for trouble.
I collapsed into bed and drifted into an uneasy, dreamless sleep.
••••••••
I didn't ask this last chapter, but would you guys like me to put warnings before Imp comes? Because I guarantee last chapter was not the last time she will shock Pidge.
If you would like me to write warnings before the chapters, you can let me know, and I will start doing that.
So, how'd you guys like the Plance? I liked writing it.
Thanks for reading!
