50 - Epilogue..
True to his word, the king made Jungkook a mansion that is no less than a palace. All the guards, maids, cooks and other staff were chosen from the palace itself. Jimin personally picked and trained the guards for Jungkook. As for the place, Jungkook picked a land near Dr Kim's medical center. He rebuilt it into a proper hospital, with a larger part of it being allocated to the development of new medicines.
Jungkook was made an advisory to the crown prince, allowing him to take part in the governance of the country, in addition to the land he was given. Jungkook made such life changing decisions for his people, for he knew first-hand how hard it is to live the life of a commoner. Within a few years, Jungkook's land became the most prosperous in the entire country, with people living their lives to the full potential. He was respected and adored by the people to equal measures.
Taehyung never took any position of command, despite the king offering him several times. He was simply Kim Taehyung, husband to lord Jungkook, the master of the manor. He spent his day helping his husband's day-to-day work, learning combat skills from Jimin and painting. Now that he had as much free time as he wanted and the world's best materials, he was able to fully explore his talent. His paintings became famous all over the country and even Kings and Queens begged him to make their portrait. He was a humble and kind hearted man, and was loved by the people just like Jungkook.
Taehyung's father was given a better position in Jungkook's manor but the elder refused it. He was happy with what he had, and what he would earn with his own merit. He lived in his old house by himself, as he refused to let Hara and Seolhee in after they returned from the palace. Taehyung visited his father at least a few times a month, sometimes Jungkook accompanied him as well. They took care of the elderly man when he got too old to work. He lived a healthy life, before passing away from old age.
Taehyung's mother and sister lived in a separate house. Seolhee was not allowed to marry into a wealthy family, not that any noble house wanted to take her and her mother in. She got married to a poor but a good man though, who loved her with all his heart. Who made her see the errors in her ways and regret her past. She wanted to apologise to Jungkook and Taehyung, but felt too ashamed to even face them. She learned that in life, love and peace of heart matters more than any materialistic wealth. Despite never owning any riches to her name, she was happy with her life as well.
Hara, however, was utterly miserable till the day she died. She resented everyone. Her husband, her son and finally her daughter, who apparently betrayed her by refusing to hold a grudge against the ones who wronged them. She tried to cause trouble at Seolhee's husband's house when she lived with them, and left the house when she realised she could no longer manipulate her daughter. She lived by herself from there onward, refusing to accept any help Jungkook sent her way, and ended up dying alone.
Lee Daeshin and his household were punished. Daeshin and Yeosung were executed by the king for their crimes, Dahyun, her mother and rest of the house were exiled, as they had no direct involvement or knowledge of crimes against Jungkook. They were never heard from again.
Jin expanded his pastry shop to multiple outlets, often providing delicacies to Jungkook's Manor. He married Namjoon, adopted two kids and retired from baking except as a supervisor. He and Jungkook spent a lot of time in the kitchen, experimenting with new food, which often turned out to be great successes.
Yoongi and Jimin got married as well. Yoongi moved his shop to somewhere closer to Jungkook's Manor as Jimin had to reside there. They didn't adopt any kids as both felt raising kids would be a challenge with their work-life. Life was simple for this less cheesy couple, as Jin called them, for they kept public displays of affection to a minimum.
Jungkook lived a happy and fulfilling life, with the man he loved, doing the best for the people. When the king passed away and crown prince Junghyun ascended to the throne, Jungkook was offered the post of chief advisor. But he refused. By then, he had grown into the life he lived with Taehyung. He loved the freedom it gave him. He loved the humble happiness he felt when seeing his people flourish in life. It's like taking care of a flower garden. And nothing felt more rewarding than seeing all those flowers bloom. He made sure not a single person under his care starved. He provided jobs for the needy, made arrangements for the kids to learn various crafts and fields so that they would have a secure future. Provided help in harsh winters and scorching summers. There wasn't any lord ever who was more loved than lord Jungkook.
Jungkook and Taehyung were in love with each other until the day they left this world due to old age. Taehyung being early, with Jungkook following only two days later. Even those two days, he spent sitting at their favourite bench in the garden, staring into the distance. He passed away in his sleep on the second day, as if his heart could no longer bear to beat without the love of his life. Their land was being governed by Soobin at that point, who had been raised under the guidance of Jungkook and Taehyung. The young man had been the child they never had.
The tale of Taehyung and Jungkook's love story was spread far in the country. People made songs and sang at festivals. Elders made sure to recite their story to the kids as often as possible, for it portrayed how love can prevail over any obstacles. Young girls dreamt of having a love like them, while the boys wished to be as righteous and honorable as them.
And even long after they were gone, people used to look up at the sky, to see two bright stars close to each other. ‘Look! It's lord Jungkook and his husband Taehyung’ people would say. ‘Forever together’.
