Chapter 41

The silence was killing me. All four of us just awkwardly looking at each other not knowing how to start a conversation. Me and Jin still covered in flour.

"I guess you can look around while we change and come." I sheepishly said to finally kill the tensed atmosphere. I signalled Seokjin to come along with me while my parents stayed glued to the chairs.

"This was not what I had in my mind for first impression." Seokjin spoke once we reached in front of our bedrooms.

"Don't mind them, they can be a little...." I didn't complete the sentence not knowing what to describe them.

"It's okay we have time. They are gonna welcome me happily." He winked before shutting the door to his room leaving an awestruck me. Did he really mean to gain the liking of my parents?

After changing to a freshly paired comfy clothes I headed downstairs along with him. He was waiting for me on the door, maybe scared to join them on his own.

"How are you guys? Didn't expect a surprise visit at all." I smiled as I plopped on the couch beside my mom. Seokjin sat opposite to my dad's chair.

"Well I can clearly see that." My dad said glaring at me while side eyeing Seokjin making him gulp along the way.

"We missed you kids. And your dad had to attend a meeting here." Mom began to shrug off the thickened tension.

"That's good. Did you visit the others?" I asked.

"No the meeting was 10 kms from here. We told Evan last night, thought he would have told you." My mom informed.

That little shit knew and he didn't dare to tell me. I am gonna cut off his limbs next time I see him.

"How is your studies coming along?" My dad asked just like I expected. Not even how I am doing or my well being just the studies.

"Everything is fine just like I am." I forced a smile.

"You are....?" He asked eyeing Seokjin. He quickly straightened and extended his hand to him, "Kim Seokjin". He politely replied.

"Heard you were her professor too?"

"Yes I was."

"Was?" He quirked his brow.

"I don't teach her anymore. It was only for a semester." Seokjin said.

"So honey what were you cooking? Did you burn anything?" My mom smiled wrapping her arms around my shoulder.

"Wow that's a great amount of trust I am seeing in you." I faked a sob pulling in my best sad face. Just then Seokjin's phone rang and he excused himself.

"I am waiting for the day I can eat something you made which is edible." She chuckled while pulling me to the kitchen. "Let's see what you were tryna make."

"Dad if you want to take rest, the room is upstairs on the left." I yelled as I was being pulled into the kitchen.

My mom stood there akimbo staring at all the mess we both made on the floor. The flour was everywhere, the floor, the counter. She sighed seeing it. She was strict when it comes to this.

"Mom I will clean it right away." I said as I began hunting for a dust pan.

"What were you making?"

"Aloo paratha and chicken tikka masala." I gleamed hoping my mom would take over because she made the tastiest food ever. And just like I prayed she took over the kitchen.

"Mrs. John can I join too?" Came Seokjin's voice.

"Sure. And no need of such formalities you can just call me mom or whatever you are comfortable with." My mom gave him the most sweetest smile ever showing her dimples, one which I inherited from her.

"So Seokjin, tell me how did you manage this sneaker everyday?" She said side eyeing me.

"Mom stop embarrassing me. I have a reputation to maintain." I stomped on the floor scoffing making both of them chuckle.

"She told me you cook really well. When will I get to taste it?"

"I'm not that great, but I love to cook. Next time I will make you something delicious."

He said with an endearing beautiful smile which sent butterflies in my stomach. Seeing him and my mom get along well really made me happy. I wish the case was same with my dad. Baby steps, I told myself.

"Have you tried Indian dishes before?" My mom enquired.

"Nope, Ela was making it for me. I am actually excited to know how it turns out." He said his eyes totally invested in the pot which was steaming with tikka masala.

"Ela? Cooking for someone?" My mom's eyes were wide as a tennis ball.

"What, I even cooked a Korean dish. Cooking is in my league." I smirked proudly.

"Is this even my daughter? She cooking for someone else?" My mom's smile was so wide that I even began to wonder if it hurts. Seokjin looked at her confused.

"Emily is her favorite among our family, you know." My mom began but I cut her off saying, "You all are my fav." I retorted.

"Oh shut up, we all know you like Ema more." She turned to him and continued. "She would do anything for Ema. But when she asks her to cook something for her she never even pays attention not even when she was sick. Telling she ain't that special enough to make her want to learn cooking. I guess she found the special one." She laughed mockingly at me while Seokjin's ears turned as red as mine.

"Oh it's just because I didn't want to poison her." I said trying to ease the burn on my ears.

Within a few additional minutes the dishes were done and ready to be served hot. All the time while we were plating and setting everything I could feel Seokjin's eyes boring into me making me feel all hot and giddy.

I called my dad who was all refreshed after the short nap and we all seated to have the early dinner. The dinner was silent but not as awkward as I thought it would be. Dad didn't come up with his usual talks so everything went for the better. After that Dad had a phone call while I was with mom trying to clean the kitchen. I saw my dad examining every single thing from the wall to the floor. His eyes burnt holes on something on the wall.

After mom and I finished the cleaning we didn't see him there and Seokjin was taking a shower. My mom pointed at the wall where our polaroids were hung along with E and S alphabet wall hanging.

"You look so happy in these." My mom pointed at the picture where we both were standing on the snow near the campfire in the background. The day we celebrated the new year and my birthday.

"I was. I am very happy." I admitted recollecting all the simple but the happiest moments I had spent with him. Every moment I spent after reaching this place was nothing but happiness. I wish I could explore these happiness that I am having right now in the future too.
