0.4: See You Tomorrow

"On a day like today,
We passed the time away
Writing love letters in the sand.
How you laughed when I cried
Each time I saw the tide
Take our love letters from the sand."
-Pat Boone.

"And done! That's how you do a caramel macchiato, got it?" Olivia looked at Johnny, desperation was visible in her eyes as she explained for the third time how to prepare a drink. Johnny gestured he understood this time but still didn't seem too convinced." Alright, your turn then."

Johnny grabbed all the ingredients and started preparing the drink, soon enough it was ready and to their surprise it was actually not bad. "Great job! I am glad you're learning Johnny." April patted his hair earning a scoff from him or at least tried to since he was much taller.

Even though their ages were not that different, to April it did feel like Johnny was like a little brother. Even though they had not met too long ago.

Everything at the Cafe was going smoothly, it had been three weeks since the opening and they already had some regular customers. It blew April's mind every time she thought about it, she thought it would take at least a year to have one regular customer. But at the moment they had two.

The first one was this old lady that came in everyday at 9:30 am, with no miss, who ordered a simple black coffee with one packet of sugar, sat by the window and just looked out, for almost two hours. I wonder if she lives with her family. April couldn't help but think. Even though her life was none of her business, thinking about what made her decide to come to her cafe everyday made her wonder. I hope she can find at least a little bit of peace here.

The second regular is a man, looks kind of young, he seemed to be around the same age as April. And you would think someone at that age would go to a Cafe to grab a quick drink before going to work, dressed in a business attire or some type of uniform. But this guy would always come at 10 am wearing casual clothes, and the weirdest part was, almost everyday he ordered something different. April sometimes thought to herself. What if he is trying all of their drinks and then making his own at home so he can open his own Cafe nearby? She shook her head thinking she was being a bit paranoid, but it was definitely weird.

When he gets his order, all he does is sit until he gets a call or a message, then leaves, at any random time. But not before saying "See you tomorrow." with a goofy smile.

And speaking of which, guess who is coming in not even a minute late.

"Nice to see you, are you going to try something new today?" Olivia immediately stepped towards the counter and started taking his order. Looks like she might have a little crush on him, everytime he comes, April would catch her staring at him. And she wasn't the only one, April wasn't oblivious to the man's looks, he looked absolutely gorgeous.

"Hm. I think I want something new today, surprise me." He gave Olivia a cheeky grin and she ran to make his order. April could simply smirk at her knowing she definitely liked him.

"What will you when you have no more drinks to try?" April raised an eyebrow towards the man standing in front of me, she looked at him carefully and could see a small smirk forming.

"Then I'll just come back and orders the ones I liked the most." He gave a smug smile. Alright , calm down Mr. Confident. But the question was still in April's mind, did he really enjoy the café that much? It is still new and there is much to improve so it really surprised her  how he just keeps coming. " You're April, right?" April's thoughts were interrupted by his voice calling her name. How does he even know me.

"So.. If I am?" she couldn't give too much information away. All she knew about this man is he might be jobless and has amazing taste. But he might be crazy as well. He lowered his head, a low laugh leaving his mouth.

"Don't worry, I am not a creep. I just heard there was this new café nearby owned by a girl named April and decided to come." He looked at her straight in the eyes as he spoke, April could tell he was full of confidence. But he was also giving her a warm smile, which made the intense eye contact feel less overwhelming to her.

"Here's your drink, I'm sure you will love it." April had completely forgotten about the drink Olivia was preparing for this man as their small conversation went through, April cleared her throat which caused him to laugh as he grabbed the drink from Olivia's hands and slowly took a sip of it.

"Exquisite. Definitely will order this some other time. Thank you." With that he gave both girls a smile and walked towards the table he would sit everyday in the exact same spot.

Olivia and April both look at each other, April's expression was rather confused but Olivia's was like she had just seen the love of her life. "Can you believe a man this handsome exists April, can you?" Olivia released a lovesick sigh as she began preparing the next customer's drink.

"Why don't you go and ask him out then if you like him that much?" April gave her a duh look. But Olivia looked at her the exact same way back.

"You really are blind aren't you?" what? What is she talking about? "Don't act so innocent April, that guy comes everyday and just stares at you, he thinks he's being subtle but trust me, he is not. He is definitely into you." April's eyes widened as she heard the words leaving Olivia's mouth. April wasn't surprised at all. This was not Olivia's first time trying to play cupid after all.

"Come on, only a week ago you were playing cupid with Andrew and I and now this? Do I really look that desperate to you?" Her silence was loud enough for April to understand. She playfully smacked Olivia's arm with one of the wet towels she was using to clean everything.

" First of all ow! Second, I'm not saying you're desperate, it's just you can't just go and reject everyone and expect to find love like that. Like you and Andrew could've had something." Olivia finished her sentence giving April a knowing look.

Technically April didn't reject him, in her mind, she simply just told him the truth, which is that she was busy at the moment with the café, which is partially true. It all happened a few days after the dinner with the I.D. Guys that she could recall.

It was a rather calm day at the Cafe, sometimes we had up to ten customers, sometimes we had one, but this time no one was around, but I was okay with it. I never expected everyday to be perfect from the start. It will get better.

A smile spread across my face as I heard the bell ring signaling someone had just come in. Glancing towards the door I saw no one else but Andrew coming into the Cafe.

"Hey, took you long enough." I mocked him earning a laugh from him to avoid any tension to be created between the both of us.

"This place is very pretty, I hope what you guys serve is just as good." I fake gasped as his remark tried to state our drinks might not be good.

"My barista will shut your mouth." We both laughed together as Olivia left to go prepare an iced americano for him. I have to admit, it felt good to laugh like the old times.

But that's when it hit me, the old times. That's just what they were, old times. Synonym for past.

" I actually came to talk to you about something, April." I hope it's not what I'm thinking.

I gestured for us to sit at a table in a more private area. My plans started becoming sweaty as I had a feeling of what was coming.

"I know I left to study abroad, and we just never contacted each other again and I'm very sorry, I want to do things correctly this time, if you give me an opportunity to show you everything I wasn't able to back then." I could feel his hand slightly touching mine. My mind becoming a mess by each word that left his mouth. I squinted my eyes for a bit, and the warmth of his hand took me over. Something I had not felt in a long time.

" I- sorry Andrew, what we had, never was actually a thing, and it is in the past now. Right now I really want to focus on my own life and my dreams." I was almost pleading, for some reason our hands were glued together, I wanted to let go so badly but I just couldn't.

All he did was lower his gaze and nodded quietly. "I understand. But I am not giving up yet. This hand shows me you want to be with me just as much as I do but I will give you time." with that he stood up, paid for his iced americano and left.

April sighed as the memory of their hands holding each other still felt like it happened just a few minutes ago, but it was impossible for her to tell if it it was because she still had feelings for him deep down, or she just got caught up in the moment.

Once again, her thoughts were interrupted as the bell near the door rang meaning someone was coming in or leaving.

"See you tomorrow, April." The man was leaving a bit earlier today, and this time he said her name. How come he knew this entire time but didn't even addressed her with it? And how come April didn't even know his name?

"Oh and by the way, my name's Eli." once again, his goofy smiled plastered in his face as he slowly turned around and walked away.

Eli. See you tomorrow.
