Charity T Barnham:

She rescues Adam's 7 year old son, Phoenix Driver, from Joanne's custody away from the abuse he suffered due to her drinking more since the divorce.

Phoenix Driver

Adam takes custody of Phoenix when he finds out that Joanne has custody of him, and as she is drinking more since the divorce was finalized, she was violent and abusive. So Adam's lawyer rescues him and sends him to live with Adam and Leona, and then he will be at peace.
