Chapter 1

The wind swept across my face, fluttering my clothes as it carried the sent of the sea. I sighed, realizing that I was bored enough to note the wind's status. My friend had long ago entered the Contest Hall in Slateport, and I stood near the open market holding his stuff. I was tempted to dig through the contents of his bag, maybe sell his jacket and make a quick buck for the article of clothing he never seemed to use. But before I could consider either option, my attention was drawn to the Contest Hall.

A loud wave of cheering exploded from the building and I already knew the out come of the contest. In only a few moments, the entire audience of the Contest Hall flooded onto the streets of the port town.

"Nic! Nic!" I called when I saw the familiar hat that looked much like mine bob through the crowd. "Dominic!" Only when I called his full name did he head towards me.

"The contest was awesome!" Nic said, answering my unasked question. "It was Lisia versus Azzy versus Wallace, and—"

"Take your stuff before you begin fangirling," I cut in, dumping his bag and jacket into his arms before he could make another wild gesture. He glared at me in responce, though that didn't dampen his excitement.

"Anyways, I don't know why people even try to compete against Azzy, 'cause, of course she won, by a landslide even. She's so good at using her Gardevoir, even though it's better for Clever contests, but Magical Leaf is just so cool! And when it Mega Evolves..." I tuned out Nic's obnoxious babble as I searched the crowd looking for a familiar face that I had known before it had became famous. I knew she would sneak out in the crowd, as everyone knew not to bother her. And then I saw it: the small ponytail of light brown hair if the most famous celebrity in Hoenn.

"Hey, I'm gonna go check something out," I murmured, walking off and pushing my way through the crowd to the girl I spotted, mutter 'Excuse me' as I went. I placed my hand upon her shoulder, causing her to immediately whip around to confront. At first, her face was blank, sparcely showing some annoyance at being stopped. But once she saw my face, her own was showing slight happiness, one that seemed so natural that I wondered if I had only imagined anyother emotion on her face. "Hey, Azzy," I began.

Her responce shocked me. "I'm sorry, but have we met before? Excuse me if I forgot." Her voice was full of the innocence of a regular teen girl that my mind was screaming out at how wrong this was. This wasn't the Azzy that left Littleroot town on the same day I did: That Azzy didn't give a damn about others and showed emotions as well as a rock did. And she just up and forgot the start of her journey? Bouffalant shit. But all I could do was smile.

"Uh... I'm Kayden? We started our journey together?" It seemed those were the magic words: if she had been under some kind of spell, she sure wasn't now.

"Oh." Her face returned to its familiar emotionless state, the edges of her lips pointed downwards and her eye-lids drooped in an I-don't-give-a-damn fashion. This was the Azzy I knew. "You're one of the 'Fashion Twins'. Where's the other one?" My face lost all the friendliness I had been showing, repleaced with irritation. Ever since she saw Nic and me, she called us the 'Fashion Twins' for whatever reason. Sure me had alike hats, and my shirt and Nic's coat at a similar pattern, but only because it was popular design. Other wise, the clothing themself were completely different: Nic's jacket was red compaired to my orange shirt, and the jacket was long sleeved with pants compaired to my t-shirt and shorts. So, even though the insult wasn't very valid, it was still obnoxious.

I slapped a look of indifference onto my face as I continued the conversation. "Oh, Nic? He's over there. He watched your performance today and was really amazed by it: he thinks you're really cool."

She responced with a grunt before she checked her PokeNav and simply began to walk away.

"Hey, wait!" I called. "Just one more thing!"

She whipped around as I grabbed her arm. "What?" She hissed, and I flinched at the intense anger in her voice. It was like I had thrown a rock at an Ursuring's head, and it was ready to tear me to shreds. And the anger was definately... unnecesary. All I did was touch her arm and ask her something.

I took a short breath and spoke. "What happened to your starter, the Treeko my dad gave you?"

"Why do you care?" She snapped, hissing as she looked at the time. Her hand entered the pack and she pulled out a small, glass flute. The melody floated through the air, fast, mysterious and ancient, and in moments a red being cut across the sky, fingers trailing its path in aw before it landed. A bystander in the crowd was the one to identify it first.

"L-Latias?!" And there it was, a Legend of Hoenn's lore floating before me, rubbing its face against Azzy's outstretched hand like a friendly Skitty. My legs gave way beneath me and fell to the ground as Azzy mounted her Latias and rocketed into the sky, a Mega Sphere enclosing her for a moment before it broke, revealing a Mega Latias and its rider.

Footsteps aproached me, though I was still too shocked to stand.

"D-did you see that?! Azzy just flew off on a freakin' Mega Latias!" Nic called from my side.

"Yeah, I saw it up close and personal," I muttered, though he didn't seem to hear me. I looked up at him as he folded his arms and shook his head.

"That's her. That's Hoenn's Finest."
