Sophie
I paced back and forth in Katie's room later that night as my mind raced frantically with everything that had happened tonight. "Do you want to talk about it?" Katie asked worriedly as she and Christina watched me with concern, but I just shook my head.
"I'm so sorry, Chrissy, I didn't think Patrick would get upset with you after he found out about me and Ashton." I apologized and Christina shook her head at me as she gave me a reassuring smile.
"You have nothing to be sorry for, Soph. I was respecting your privacy and your brother should've respected it as well. He has no right to say that you two aren't allowed to date. How he acted tonight showed me that he's immature and now, I'm starting to rethink our whole relationship." She admitted as tears started to fill her eyes and my heart ached to see her so upset.
"Don't say that, Chrissy! I don't want to come between you two." I frowned, but she took a ragged breath, blinked away her tears, and gave me a small smile.
"We are not here tonight for me, Soph. I know you don't want to talk about it, but something happened after you returned from the bathroom earlier and you haven't told us." She said pointedly and I felt my heart start to beat frantically against my chest as I opened my mouth, unable to say anything.
"Come on, Sophie, you can tell us anything." Katie said gently and I took in a ragged breath as I walked over to her bed and then sat down
"I'm late." I whispered and Katie sat up from her spot on the floor as she stared at me in disbelief.
"I'm sorry, what'd you say?"
"While I was in the bathroom I was confronted by Ashton's Mom and after she left, my stupid phone made me realize that I haven't gotten my period this month." I said, my lip quivering as tears threatened to escape from my eyes and they both quickly sat next to me and wrapped their arms around me.
"Maybe you should take a test, honey?" Christina suggested, but I shook my head as a tear slid down my cheek.
"No, I-I don't think I could handle going out and buying a test right now." I admitted, but suddenly, Katie jumped off the bed and smiled at me.
"Hold on a second!" She quickly ran out of the room and Christina and I both looked at each other in shock, but before we could say anything Katie returned holding a box. "Here you go!" She said, pulling a test out of the box and holding out to me.
I raised an eyebrow at her in surprise as I slowly took the test from her and stood up. "What?" Katie asked as she looked between Christina and me with confusion, but I just shook my head.
"When I get back from the bathroom, we are going to talk about why you have pregnancy tests." I pointed the test at Katie and she chuckled nervously as she sat down on the bed next to Christina.
When I walked back into the room a couple of minutes later, I set the test that was tucked back into the foil package it came in on her dresser and turned to face them. "We have three minutes until I can find out the results." I sighed and then looked at Katie. "Now, please tell me why you have a box of pregnancy tests lying around."
"I kinda sorta had a scare last month." She admitted and I gasped.
"What?" Christina and I both exclaimed and Katie covered her face with her hands.
"Are you seeing someone?" Christina asked.
"Why haven't you told me you started dating somebody?" I demanded and Katie shook her head as she stood up.
"I'm not dating anyone, I swear! We were just hooking up!" She explained quickly and I was completely taken by surprise. This was definitely not how I expected to spend my night tonight. I did not plan on taking a pregnancy test, trying to make sure my brother's girlfriend didn't break up with him, and finding out that my best friend had been secretly hooking up with someone.
"Well, who is it?" I exclaimed, demanding to know who this mystery person was and she groaned as she turned bright red from embarrassment.
"Keith, the goalie for the Blackhawks." Katie blurted out as she buried her face in her hands. Christina and I both turned to each other in complete and utter disbelief.
"Since when!" I exclaimed and she shrugged as I pried her hands off her face.
"Since I went to that practice with you the one time back in July I think?"
"Katie, that was three months ago!"
"I know! I'm sorry, I just didn't want to bother you." She admitted and I frowned at her.
"Katie, you're my best friend. You're never a bother." I said gently and squeezed her hand.
"Hey guys, I don't mean to interrupt but it's been three minutes." Christina said as she looked down at her phone and then back up at us. I took in a ragged breath and picked up the test.
I stared at the foil package for what felt like an eternity, I just couldn't bring myself to take the test out of the wrapper. I was so unbelievably scared and if it was positive I had no idea what I was going to do. I wasn't speaking to Ashton and if Patrick finds out that I'm pregnant on top of everything else, I don't think they'd be able to fix their friendship.
"Can you guys please look?" I asked and handed the test over to them. Katie pulled the test out of the wrapper and leaned in close to Christina so they both could read it. I tried to gauge their reactions by reading their faces, but they remained expressionless until they both looked up at me.
"Do you want us to tell you?" Christina asked and I nodded, my heart beating so loud in my chest it was roaring so loud in my ears that I could barely hear them when they said that it was positive.
I was pregnant and completely and utterly screwed.
