Trong tất cả các bài hội thoại này, các bạn sẽ nghe hai người, Susan và Peter, nói về một số
món ăn Việt nam.
Dialogue 1:
Do you like Vietnamese food, Peter?
Yes, I do.
Mmm, me too! And I love chilli sauce! What about you?
No, it's too hot for me. I don't like hot food.
Dialogue 2:
Mmm. There's noodle and rice... Oh there's chicken and mushroom. I
love it. And they've got hot food too... but you aren't keen on hot
food, are you?
No, I'm not. Anyway, what are you going to have?
Dialogue 3:
Anyway, what are you going to have? Would you prefer noodles or
rice?
Well... um... rice, please.
Dialogue 4:
Excuse me...Are you ready to order?
Oh... yes, I think so. We'd like some chicken and mushroom.
Right. Chicken and mushroom.
Ah... and we'd like some rice.
Certainly, would you rather have boiled rice or fried rice?
I'd rather have boiled rice. What about you, Peter?
OK. We'll have boiled rice, please.
Right. Chopsticks or a spoon and fork?
Chopsticks, please.
I'm hopeless with chopsticks!
A spoon and fork for you, then.

1. Like and dislike (thích và không thích)
Examples:
I like bananas

• I'm not keen on folk

• Yes, I do
• No, I don't
• Yes, he does.
• No, he doesn't
2. Preferences (thích hơn - chỉ sự lựa chọn)
Examples:
Would you prefer rice or noodles?
Would you rather have...
Would you like...
What are you going to have?
• (I'd prefer) rice thanks.
• (I'd rather have) rice
• (I'd like) rice thanks
• (I'll have) rice thanks
Các bạn chú ý, trong câu đáp, ta thường không nói 'I'd prefer'
Part 4 - CONVERSATIONAL DEVICES (những câu đệm trong đối thoại):
Examples:
I'm afraid
[ aim_ə'freid ]
Part 5 - PRONUNCIATION (cách phát âm)
• I'm afraid I'm tied up on Sunday.
• I'm tied up on Sunday, I'm afraid.
Các bạn lưu ý : 'I'd like' [ aid laik ] có nghĩa là tôi muốn cái gì đó trong một tình huống cụ thể.
Nhưng 'I like' [ ai laik ] có nghĩa là tôi thích cái gì đó, nói chung.
Còn I'd prefer [ aid prə'fə ] có nghĩa là tôi thích cái gì hơn trong một tình huống cụ thể (hiện
tại hay tương lai).
Nhưng I prefer [ ai prə'fə ] có nghĩa là tôi thích cái gì hơn, nói chung.
