I wake up in the morning to the sounds of chatter and laughs outside. I stretch out and sit on my bed for a moment. Thinking about what to do to stick out less. My wardrobe is way too different. I ponder for some time, thinking about all the options and then it hits me.
Me: I am a fucking retard.
Time to change my gear.
New clothes to try and not to stand out too much. (Imagine him holding)
(Winchester M 1895)
(Steyr M1912)
I put my pistol into my pouch, and sling the Winchester onto my back. I mean, M1 is great, but I wanna test other stuff out. I leave my room and lock the doors and head down. Once on the ground floor I see that there aren't many people, some patrons here and there but mostly quiet.
Clayton: Good morning kid, sleep well? Oh, new gear, have to say. Doesn't look to bad
Me: Ahh good morning, yea, I slept well. And thanks.
Clayton: Glad to hear. you slept well.
And with that I leave the inn and head straight for the guild. Once I enter I catch some glances but nothing special, still pretty early in the morning so there aren't many people in the guild. I grab a simple quest and go to complete it. That is how I basically spend my next week. Just doing some quests, errands, earning some coin. Not drawing too much attention to myself, which I quite enjoy.
But one day I am coming for my routine grab a quest and leave when I encounter some trouble.
???: Puahaha, who is this kid? A peasants son, I mean look at him. He ain't no adventurer.
Sofie: Shut up Zarn!! Leave him alone.
Zarn: Oh come on sweetie Sophie. I mean look at him.
Zarn, I was warned of him and his pals. Semi capable adventurers but arrogant and vulgar, always picking on the newcomers, sometimes going too far, but they can't get rid of him. He is one of the most capable in this town which would only be a suicide getting rid of him. He jabs me with his finger.
Zarn: Listen kid, you better know your place. On the ground licking my boots.
With that he pushes me on the ground. He does have strength I will give him that. Then he places his boot in front of me, expecting me to lick it. I look up seeing his grin and his pals laughing. I simply get up but he pushes me down again. All the while Sophie yelling to stop.
When I try to get up again he pushes me down again
Zarn: Kiss my boot kid. Learn your place.
I kind of snap, I am fed up with him. I pull out a bayonet that was strapped on my chest and stab him in his lovely foot.
He let's out a loud scream and a shriek. I pull out the bayonet and get up while he rolls on the floor grabbing his foot. I burst out laughing, almost like a maniac while he rolls on the floor like a coward. There is silence in the room, only sounds is Zarn groaning in pain. Everybody looks at me, some with confusion and his pals, well, they glance daggers at me, but I only grin. I look down at the poor little Zarn.
Me: There, I kissed your little boot.
Zarn: You-you... YOU WILL PAY FOR THIS!!!
I just ignore his remark and go over to the quest board and notice one for hunting down some goblins. Oooo, I haven't killed me some goblins in a while might as well. I take the piece of paper and place it in front of Sofie.
Me: I'll be taking this one.
She just nods and with that I leave the guild and head out ignoring the whispers that ensue. I leave town and head into the forest where they were last seen. The forest is thick but traversable, and as I walk deeper and deeper into it I see way more foliage. And even encounter some wildlife, some boars, horned rabbits and even some birds, but nothing too special. I did come across some slimes, some were blue some were green but I didn't pay them no mind as I didn't have any particular reason to hunt them down.
After some time in the forest I finally hear the sound I wanted to hear. The all to familiar and well remembered gibberish, that is goblin talk. I take the Winchester of my back and walk towards the sound. It is a small camp, from what I see it is about 12 to 14 of those fucks, which I am all to glad to kill. They all seem to be regular ones, no special ones, no leader, just some regular goblins. I take aim and fire my first shot, it impacting one of the goblins heads. They get frightened by the loud bang that the gun makes. I cycle the next round with the beautiful and iconic action of the lever and shoot again and again until I expend the 5 shots. I take a clip from my magic pouch and load the next 5.
While I was loading they did manage to gain some ground. I manage to kill 5 more but I know I don't have time to load the next set so I pull out my Steyr and start blasting. I did miss a couple but I got 8 to hit. The last goblin got in striking distance but I did manage to kill him before he could strike. That was too close for comfort, but it was a good test of working under pressure. Which I was surprised that I managed to keep cool in that situation. Plus, I got to kill me some of those green skinned, yellow goat eye looking fucks and it felt good.
I proceed to cut off their ears for evidence that I managed to complete the quest. I feel proud of myself. Honestly, it hasn't been even a half a year since I got into this world. And I went from a little innocent nerd to a decent marksman.
As I was heading back it was getting dark. Thankfully I reached town as the night had fallen, and the two moons illuminated the world. I arrive at the guild, surprised that it is still working. I walk in, inside is Sofie at the counter and a group of adventurers sitting at the sofas. I place the pouch of ears on the table in front of Sofie.
Me: Here, jobs done. I killed those goblin.
Sofie: Congratulations on the hunt. How did you do it alone?
Me: Let's just say, all thanks to my magic.
Sofie: Listen, killing 14 goblins isn't a small feat, I need to know how you did it. I mean, no offense but you don't look exactly anything special.
Me: No offense taken, and let's just say. A magician never reveals his tricks and secrets.
Sofie: Fine, keep your secrets. Here is your reward, 40 silver coins,
Damn, I didn't even look at the reward. 40!? This quest alone covers my stay expenses for another month. I need to look out for more of these quests. Not only do I get more training experience but I earn quite some money.
Sofie: Listen. About Zarn.
Oh, yeah, Zarn. Totally forgot about him. Was too preoccupied with the quest that I forgot about this morning.
Sofie: Zarn won't let this slide. It isn't the fact that you hurt him, it is the fact that you hurt his pride. He is going to be out to get you. And all I want to say is, be careful. Marie would be sad if something happened to you.
Me: Don't worry, he won't hurt me. I know I look like a basic peasant boy but I do have some tricks up my sleeves. Please believe me that I won't be hurt.
Sofie: I hope what you are saying is true. I would hate to have to break to Marie that you were hurt or even worse killed by him or his henchmen.
Me: Again, don't you worry you pretty little face about it. If he tries he would die before he would get a chance to even strike.
Sofie replies with a simple nod and I leave the guild. I head over to the inn to treat yourself a little and then go to sleep. I enter the inn, it is full of people, all chatting, laughing and drinking. I walk over to a empty table and sit down, putting my gear to the side. Kattie comes up to my table.
Kattie: Hi there, what can I get for you tonight?
Me: Hi there, bring me your most expensive dish and strongest ale.
Kattie: Alright. May I ask what is the occasion of such an order?
Me: Nothing special, just wanted to treat myself.
She nods and leaves. You sit there, waiting for her to come with your order. While you wait you think about different stuff and all that has happened. I would have avoided a confrontation with that asshole Zarn but I didn't have much of a choice. I hurt his pride which he won't take lightly. Dealing with him will be a pain and I hope I won't need to kill him. Considering that I made some money, maybe I should take a days rest and explore the town more thoroughly, see what is what. Buy some stuff that I might find useful.
Kattie comes back holding a tray. She sets the tray down on the table. On it is some kind of large meat peace, with different vegetables, some look familiar and some look different. And a mug filled with some kind of alcohol, I bring it up to my nose and it smells real nice, not strong but rather pleasant.
Me: Hey Kattie, what is this drink called?
Kattie: Oh, that is Satyr's Daze, it is made from Kualla leaves, Palimino tears and Leffa.
Me: Palimino tears? Are those like tears from some kind of creature?
Kattie laughs a little and then says: No silly, Palimino tears come from a plant named by the man that discovered them, Palimino Fritgart, a elven herbalist.
Me: Neat.
Kattie: I hope you enjoy your meal, I must go and serve the others.
With that she leaves to serve the other patrons. I first cut the meat, surprisingly it is soft and tender and cuts really easily. All that is good, but the taste is what maters the most. I take a piece and put it in my mouth. It melts in your mouth and your mouth is filled with all these complex and different tastes, all pleasant and complementing to each other. The meat is definitely of the highest quality, made with care. Then I look at the wooden mug, I take the sip of this Satyr's Daze, and to my surprise. It is strong, like really strong, I cough a little until I get used to the potency. I take my time enjoying every moment of this fine meal and drink, everything tastes really damn good, and the drink, once you get used to it feels really nice to consume.
Once I am done I feel full. I place down the fork and knife and wipe my mouth. Feeling content, and tired I pay and then head upstairs. I enter my room and quickly take of my clothes and just slump down onto the bed, and soon I am consumed by sleep.
