In Genesis 2:8-14 we get the clearest idea on this location.

"8 Then the Lord God planted a garden in Eden in the east, and there he placed the man he had made. 9 The Lord God made all sorts of trees grow up from the ground—trees that were beautiful and that produced delicious fruit. In the middle of the garden, he placed the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.10 A river flowed from the land of Eden, watering the garden and then dividing into four branches. 11 The first branch, called the Pishon, flowed around the entire land of Havilah, where gold is found. 12 The gold of that land is exceptionally pure; aromatic resin and onyx stone are also found there. 13 The second branch, called the Gihon, flowed around the entire land of Cush. 14 The third branch, called the Tigris, flowed east of the land of Asshur. The fourth branch is called the Euphrates (BibleGateway)."

The garden is so hard to pinpoint because of how long it's been since the garden has been thriving. Thanks to the scripture and basic history knowledge we can conclude that since it names four rivers it is located in Mesopotamia or present-day Iraq. It most likely hugged the Persian Gulf or was very close to it. I believe this because of the river that runs through it before branching off into four rivers. Another reason I believe that is could be in the middle east area is because of their large amounts of oil. This could be the decayed garden of Eden (GotQuestions.org 2012). The Tigris-Euphrates River Valley is also full of fossils and organic sediment that is two miles deep. There is a chance that this could be the result of the garden going underwater during the flood (Morris).
