Chappy One
This is not supposed to be super accurate. I'm totally making up Angelica's children.
"Peggy! Peggy! Peggy, they've won! They've won the war!" Eliza shrieked, running through my door waving a letter.
"We are free?" I ask, rushing over to her.
"Yes, but more importantly, Alexander and John may return! Alexander may return for the birth of my child!" Eliza stated, rubbing her large stomach.
"Oh, we must hold a celebration when they return! Does Angelica know yet?" Peggy asked.
"I have the smallest amount of an idea, but my guess is that London had received the news, because they have lost." Eliza said, then rushed out of the room.
I laugh and run to my desk, and start a letter to Angelica inviting her to come and meet Alexander and John again, and meet Eliza's child.
I seal the envelope and hand it to my servant Mary to be delivered. Lifting up the skirt of my dress, I rush down the stairs and embrace my mother, Catherine. I run over to my father and embrace him too.
Time skip two months
It has been two months since my loving husband has returned. Alexander and Eliza have had their child, and John would like to talk to me in another room.
"My Peggy." He says, holding me close and kissing me. Our lips lock and I am filled with warmth. My fingers brush his curly brown hair pulled into a ponytail, and I can see his freckles from my angle.
He breaks the kiss. "Peggy, have you told anyone yet? Or should we announce our news at supper?"
"I have told none other than my loving maid Mary, who would never tell a soul if I didn't want her to. She has even helped me see a doctor without my family's knowing." I say, pulling myself closer.
He nods and bends down. He places both hands on my stomach and kisses it. "Hello in there." He says. I giggle. "You're going to be my favorite thing in the world. Tied with someone else." He says, glancing up at me. I kiss the top of his head.
"We must start making our way to the dining room for supper." I say, linking my arm with his. He nods and we start on our way to the dinner table. As we take our seats, we notice a very sad gleam in my mother's eye.
Eliza mirrors my thoughts. "What is it, Mother?" She says. Mother smiles.
"Nothing bad, my dear. Angelica is just late, is all." My mother says, sipping wine.
As if on cue, Angelica and her husband John Church walk in through the door. There are delighted cheers and warm embraces. Angelica's twins, Catherine and John Jr, scramble over to Eliza holding baby Phillip.
"Oh, my nephew!" Angelica exclaims, running over to Eliza. She takes 2 month old Phillip into her arms. "You look like your father." She says to Phillip.
I smile at my husband. Soon we will have one of our own.
"Aunt Peggy!" Catherine yells, climbing into my lap. I have always been very close with my niece. "Aunt Peggy," she says, holding her doll. "Look, she looks like me. Uncle La-fa-et got her for me in France!" She says, holding up a beautiful glass doll. The doll has the same chocolate brown eyes and brown ringlets as Catherine.
"Oh, how wonderful!" I say, brushing my fingertips against the doll' delicate face. I remembered that John and Alexander's best friends from the war, Hercules Mulligan and Marquis De Lafayette, were also coming to he end of the war celebration. They walk through the door, and there are more embraces.
After Hercules and Lafayette give gifts to Eliza, Angelica and I and also the children, it is supper. As my servant, Mary comes out with a platter of chicken, I whisper to her, "Shall I announce the news now?" I ask. She nods and hurries into the kitchen to grab a bottle of wine for my father.
"Peggy, why are you not drinking your wine?" Alexander asks me. I exchange a glance with John.
"Well," I say, standing up. "It is because I am with child."
