Prologue: Winter

"Ananta?" Acnologia called into the cave, walking in to get out of the snow. "Ananta!" He called, louder this time. "Dad!" Acnologia stopped, a small pang of sorrow shooting through him as only the child responded.
He slowly walked into the main chamber, seeing Ananta still curled up in her dragon form in an attempt to keep her body temperature up. "Igneel, how long has Ananta been asleep?" He asked. Barely seeing her body move as she breathed. "Since awhile after I woke up. She stopped cuddling me and turned back into a dragon. She hasn't woken up since." Igneel said sadly.
"It's alright child. She'll get through the winter. She always does." Acnologia gently pat his hand against his mates snout, blinking back the fearful tears. He couldn't lose her. If he lost his mate...well then that would be it. The end of the Dragons. After all, there was no other female dragon left that they could find.
"Father?" Igneel tugged at Acnologias leg, looking up to the man. "Yes child?" Acnologia was looking off into the distance again, as if Ananta wasn't there. "Did you catch anything?" Acnologia slowly shook his head. "No. All the hunting grounds are barren. What creatures there are that aren't hibernating are hidden away themselves to survive the winter. I'll try heading further out tomorrow."
