Chapter 32: The Memories Live On

Hello! Clippy here. Well, last chapter Marinette sort of died on us, but let's see what happens after this. I don't have much to say other than thank you for 4.5k, and all the new comments! I need to get to replying to them XD

Though, without further ado, enjoy!

Adrien's breath quivered, Rena Rouge hugging Carapace tightly. The akuma purified, the white butterfly floating swiftly into the sky. Adrien's grip tightened around the two broken miraculous stones, shutting his eyes tighter as to hold in his tears.

A flash of light glared in the area, a girl with navy hair falling from the glow.

"MARINETTE!" Adrien screamed, his smile growing as he hugged her tightly.

"Erm, who are you-?"

Two new kwamis floated from the miraculous gems, both wearing sad expressions. "It seems Marinette had worded her statement incorrectly..."

Marinette opened her eyes, glancing at her surroundings. Tikki and Plagg whirled around her, opening up to the surroundings. "What is this place," Marinette breathed, "I thought this wish thing would not bring me to a second location."

"Hello," a voice boomed, sending a slight shiver down Marinette's spine. "Erm, Hello," Marinette stammered nervously. "May I ask why my presence is needed here?" She then asked. The kwamis paused to give a slight bow at the direction the voice came from.

Marinette repeated the action slightly, then realizing she was holding both of the miraculous gems in her hands. "Is this part of the wish trial?" She then asked, after getting no reply to her first question.

"Yes," the voice echoed in her ears, "you may repeat your offering in exchange for your price." "I'm offering the guardian in exchange for the purification of Adrien Agreste and the restoration of life on Earth."

"That's a small offering," the voice boomed, "may I ask the worthiness of your offering?" "The previous guardian had named me best miraculous holder in history," Marinette breathed, "by giving my life the legacy can not live on."

"I believe that erasing the history of some of the miraculous is our best choice."

"What are you saying," Marinette breathed cautiously.

"The kwamis," the voice boomed, "they must be destroyed." "There had to be another proposal," Marinette shivered, "how about my life and-"

"I will not take your life," the voice boomed, "that wasn't in your offering."

"I offered the guardian. That means my life." Marinette spat strictly.

"Those words were not in your offering. I want your memories and the kwami's lives."

"But-"

"If you don't reconsider, our deal is off."

Marinette felt tears brim her eyes. "I don't want to live if I can't remember anything!"

Adrien. Chat Noir. Alya. The Miraculous. Her kwamis. Saving Paris. All of it; gone.

She had no choice in the matter.

She glanced at the kwamis, "I'm sorry for dragging you both into this mess," she whispered, a tear dripping off of her jawline.

"It's fine, Marinette," Tikki smiled, "history does not matter. The future is what will impact everyone."

Marinette smiled at the kwamis, looking up to where the voice had come from.

"Goodbye miraculous," she whispered, the thought of Ladybug drifting away from her.

"I agree." She spat.

***

Marinette backed up, Adrien swallowing his tears as he looked at the kwamis. "What do you mean!?" He shouted, "where are Plagg and Tikki!?"

The new kwami looked down. "Plagg and Tikki are gone," she breathed sadly.

Adrien froze, "who are you two?" "We are Gladde and Ghosse," the red kwami spoke sadly, Adrien sucking in a hitched breath.

"Does Marinette not remember anything?"

"I'm afraid not."

"Uhm," Marinette's breath hitched, "why are those two floating bug-mouses talking to you?"

Adrien chuckled, "Oh, it's fine. Do not worry," he spoke softly. "My name is Adrien, nice to meet you."

Marinette tossed a quick wave, "I'm Marinette."

Adrien then began to sob uncontrollably. He never got to thank Plagg for giving him Chat Noir, nor never got to apologize for treating him horribly.

What could he do now? There was nothing left. All he had left was the former Ladybug miraculous holder who he had loved dearly.

Adrien, forgetting to revert the damage, had smiled at Marinette. "I'm so sorry," his breathing picked up, "this is all my fault."

Rena Rouge didn't look at him in the eye. "It's alright, Adrien."

Lies. He could tell this from a mile away. He couldn't protest their anger, they had every right to be angry at him.

"Who are all these super-heroey looking people?" Marinette's innocence caused Adrien to glance up.

"Oh, they're my classmates," Adrien breathed, "and this belongs to you."

He handed her the two miraculous earrings, Marinette pushing the hand away from him. "I don't know what these are..."

God damn it. Every word she said hurt him so deeply.

"They're special earrings. Just keep them with you. You don't have to use them," he smiled sadly. Marinette hesitantly grabbed them, inserting them into her ears. "Are you going to tell me what those bug-mouse creatures are?"

Adrien chuckled sadly. "They are kwamis."

"Kwamis," Marinette scoured her memory, "I feel I have heard that before - but I do not know when."

"Kwamis give you superhero powers," Rena Rouge perked up, "each set of jewelry that Adrien will give you has a kwami. When saying a phrase, the kwami will go into the jewels and transform you into a superhero."

Marinette nodded mindlessly, still not comprehending a word she had said. "Adrien, thank you," Marinette smiled, still not sure of what had been happening.

"Thank you," Adrien breathed, "I should be thanking you." "Oh?" Marinette perked up, "why is that?"

"You'll find out soon enough," Adrien breathed, "but I'm hoping we can be friends?"

"Of course," Marinette smiled, "you seem nice, Adrien."

Adrien wanted to tell her everything; everything that he had to remember from their interactions. But, she would not remember a thing. She has forgotten all about Chat Noir.

"Here, can I show you something," Adrien breathed, helping Marinette stand up. "Ghosse, claws out!" He shouted, Chat Noir standing in his place.

"Wow," Marinette breathed, "that was so cool."

"What's your name?" Marinette asked.

"I'm Chat Noir," he smiled sadly, "it's a purr-leasure to meet you."

Marinette laughed, "you silly kitty."

Chat Noir's eyes widened, Marinette tossing a confused glance. "What is it?" She finally asked.

"How did you get that name?" Chat Noir asked, his eyes still wide.

"Oh, I don't know," Marinette giggled nervously, "just felt right."

Chat Noir smiled sadly. The memories still lived in her, but only he would know what she had truly been.

"Of course, my lady."

"Where did that come from?" Marinette asked with a smile.

He smiled to himself, "it just felt right."

So, Marinette is back...sort of. The kwamis are gone as well... also how do you like the new names I gave the new kwamis? XD I kinda like 'em.

But, as always, to see more about new-Marinette, stay tuned! Have a good day/night :)
