Chapter 13: Curse of the Broken Miraculous
Hey everyone, Clipsey checking in. So, just warning something does happen in this chapter, and maybe try to guess based on the title ;)
But, last chapter Adrien got...you know what...by his father, and we will never forgive him for hurting the poor soul that is Adrien Agreste-
Anyways, enjoy!
"Okay!" Adrien said, pumped with energy. Marinette smiled, "Okay, I'll go get the base of the project with some research online, and you go get some books,"
Adrien nodded and ran off to the large computer. "What are you doing? I didn't know libraries had computers," Plagg poked out from his jacket.
"Well, this is used to find specific books that you need," Adrien was busy typing. "Okay, 34," he repeated the number, whispering it over and over.
He walked into the aisle, scanning the shelf for the books that he needed. "Adrien, your phone," Plagg handed it to him. His father's face was on the icon, which made him sigh quietly.
"Yes, father?" Adrien spoke into the phone. "What? Officer, what is..." Adrien trailed off, dropping his phone.
Adrien walked back to where Marinette was sitting, as he dropped his phone onto the table. "Everything okay?" Marinette noticed. "No," Adrien shook his head. "Natalie is dead,"

He immediately called an uber, as Marinette insisted to come with him. He accepted, maybe with a friend around it would make the situation less real. "Adrien, are you okay?" Marinette grabbed his hand.
"Yeah, I will be," Adrien replied, even though every time he talked, he felt he was going to burst into tears. He looked out the window, Marinette still clutching his hand. He knew that she wanted him to look at her, but right now, he just needed some peace.
It was so weird; one moment you can be alive, the next you can have everything taken away from you. Adrien was too familiar with this situation, his mother and his dignity had been taken away.
His father, was the only one left, and sometimes he wished that he wasn't what the Agreste brand name was known for. He sighed and kissed Marinette's cheek. "Thanks for coming," he mumbled, trying to smile.
She blushed slightly, but Adrien hadn't noticed. "What are friends for?" Adrien smiled at her reply. They arrived at the Agreste mansion, and Adrien ran inside, just in front of Marinette.
Natalie was lying on the floor as Adrien frantically looked at his father. "WHAT HAPPENED!?" he shouted at him. He knew what his father was capable of, he thought he was the only one he hurt.
"Do not raise your voice at me!" His father said as Adrien crossed his arms. "What. Happened," he repeated as Marinette rested a hand onto his shoulder. "Adrien, calm down, it's going to be okay," she whispered as Adrien sighed.
"You don't understand, Marinette," Adrien wiped his face.
"Mr. Agreste, do you know-" "I don't know who you are, now get out of my house," Gabriel said as Marinette's brow furrowed. "Natalie has been sick for a long time, it's just natural for her to pass," he father said, actual emotion visible in his tone.
"What is that?" Adrien pointed to his hand, still very suspicious of doing horrible things to his assistant. "A peacock broach that belonged to your mother," Gabriel mumbled. "Speak up," Adrien mocked his father under his breath.
He was so angry, he felt he could just lose all control at any moment. "Why do you have it?" he added. "Because she was wearing it! Now, go to your room!" Gabriel shouted as Adrien flinched. It was strange that even though he was used to his father's yelling, it still shocked him.
Adrien slammed the door, falling onto the floor. "Kid, are you okay?" Plagg asked as Adrien curled up into a ball. "Of course I'm not okay," Adrien spat. "The only other safe person in my life just died,"
"I'm so sorry-" "Sorry won't bring her back!" Adrien shouted, tears trailing down his face. Adrien, you idiot, stop yelling at Plagg. He didn't do anything.
"Sorry, kid," Plagg said, not noticing him judging himself. Plagg patiently waited for a reply, "Are you okay?" he added.
"No," Adrien mumbled, his chin resting on his wrists. His eyes were acting like leaking foscets, just dripping out water, waiting for them to be fixed.
Plagg waited patiently for him to continue, not judging him in the slightest. Adrien kept on trying to say something, anything, but nothing could come out of his mouth. Great, now he's probably judging me for making him wait for so damn long Adrien...
"If you want some alone time," Plagg said after a period of silence. Adrien hesitated, he didn't want to be left alone. "Y-Yeah, you can go,"
Plagg flew out of the door, and Adrien knew he was probably going to eavesdrop. He sighed deeply, settling in the position he was currently in. How could this have happened if his father had nothing to do with it?
No, there wasn't a world - a universe where he had nothing to do with it. Adrien started tapping his piano song melody on his knee cap, his tears drying on his face. His hand drifted to his pocket, and he pulled out his phone, dialing someone.
"Hey, Marinette," Adrien said as she picked up. "Sorry that my father was so rude to you, I didn't get a chance to say bye,"
"Oh, no worries, I'm sure he was upset about...you know," Marinette's tone was shrivelled with nervousness. "Yeah..." Adrien said as Marinette waited patiently for a reply. Adrien, come on, say something else, think of some-
"So, I'm sure we could work on our project some other time," Marinette started to talk. Adrien paused as he quickly came to his senses. "Yeah!, I mean, y-yeah sure," Adrien said, almost picturing her judging facial expression through the phone.
He immediately regret what he said, repeating the words in the same tone in his head, wincing at how he sounded like such a creep. "I-I have to go now," Adrien stammered. "Aww, so soon?" Marinette said as Adrien gave no reaction. Adrien, say something-
"...Bye!" Marinette hung up as he covered his face with his hands. How could he embarrass himself so much - he had never felt this way around anyone before. Well, Marinette just wasn't anyone.
"Was that your girlfriend?" Adrien didn't notice Plagg resting on his shoulder. "Plagg, shut up!" Adrien replied. "Well, technically she is my girl friend, as in my friend who is a girl," Adrien added.
"I meant the other one," Plagg said, his mocking tone springing into action. "Ha ha, very funny," Adrien got up and stretched his arms. "Adrien," he father walked into the room as Plagg hid behind his back.
"Yes father?" "Who was that girl," his father's hands were always wrapped behind his back. "Oh, that's Marinette, my partner," "For the project," he added quickly after.
"Is she the one who was disorganized about her timing?" it took Adrien a second to realize he was talking about when he went to her house. "Well, she wasn't really," Adrien responded softly. "She just forgot something, it happens to the best of us,"
"It doesn't happen to you," his father said as his eyes drifted to the window. He practically was praying that Ladybug would just magically appear there, or even Natalie's ghost - or whatever.
Of course, that was all make believe.
"Also, father, are you hiring a new assistant?" Adrien asked. His father didn't reply immediately "I suppose so," "I was hoping to do some internships instead," he said honestly. "What about Marinette? It would be really good for her fashion career, she won the contest remember?"
He scoffed. "I don't need an assistant who forgets her own schedule, if she can't remember hers, how can she remember mine?" he left the room with a slam of the door. Adrien sighed.
That was sadly one of the longest conversations he has had with his father. But, Adrien got the feeling that he didn't come in here to talk, he came in his room to tell. But...tell him what?
***
"Master, don't do that, that's dangerous-" "I don't care, Neuro," Gabriel put on the peacock broach after ripping off his scarf. "Nooroo, Duusu, unify," Gabriel twirled his staff in his hand.
"The controlling powers of the two strongest transmission miraculouses," Gabriel spoke quietly in the dark. "Shadow Moth, has a nice ring to it,"
