Chapter 10: The Small Black Cat of Destruction

Adrien rubbed his eyes; talking to Marinette through the night was not the best idea. He sighed, getting out of his bed and brushing his teeth. "Seems you are going to meet up with Zoey today!" Plagg said as Adrien tilted his head.

"Zoey?" "Your psychiatrist," Plagg munched his cheese. "Oh, I didn't know her name," Adrien wiped his mouth on a towel. "How did you know?" Adrien added quickly after. "I mean, her desk is full of papers of all her clients-"

"Plagg, it's rude to snoop," Adrien interrupted as he rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah," Plagg went silent. "Are you going to tell her about your father?" Plagg asked as Adrien scoffed. "Yeah right, that should stay between me and him,"

"Yeah, but like, you should tell someone," Plagg emphasized. "Marinette doesn't even know!" "I'm not telling her all of my secrets just because she is paid to 'help me'," Adrien quoted himself. "But-" "Plagg, end of the discussion," Adrien interrupted as Plagg crossed his small arms.

"...It's weird without my bodyguard around," Adrien said as he sat at his table, by himself. "I'm guessing no breakfast?" Adrien said, Natalie, looking the other way. "Yeah, of course," Adrien excused himself.

Plagg sighed in his pocket, but then realized Adrien made a quick turn towards the kitchen. "Adrien-" "Plagg, shush," Adrien interrupted, crouching down to see if anyone occupied the room. He quickly ran in and grabbed the first thing he saw, an apple.

"Score!" Adrien whisper-yelled, putting it into his backpack. "Also, tell her that you have to sneak around your own house to get food-" "Plagg! Shut-" "Adrien," Gabriel said from the other side of the room.

Adrien put a hand over his heart. "Y-You scared me, father," Adrien said, his father not reacting. "What do you need?" Adrien worded his sentences carefully. "Natalie will be dropping you off at school and will be dropping you at your session with Miss. Cunningham," Gabriel said as Adrien nodded.

Adrien caught himself. "I-I mean, yes, sorry," Adrien mumbled the last word. "Good-" Gabriel turned the corner. "-Bye..." Adrien's grip tightened on his satchel, adjusting it on his shoulder. He got into the car, taking out his phone immediately.

"No phone, you've been on it all night," Natalie said in a monotone voice. "I-I-" "Do not worry, your father will not find out," Natalie sighed. "Thanks, Natalie," Adrien smiled not getting a reply. The car stopped in front of the school, and Adrien's eyes drifted to Marinette immediately.

He waved as she ran up to the car. "A-Adrien!" Marinette her face was slightly red. Was it that warm outside - Adrien hadn't noticed. "Hey Marinette, it was nice talking to you yesterday," Adrien smiled, taking a bite of his apple.

"Oh, you finally brought something," Marinette laughed. "And don't worry, I brought extra croissants for lunch," Marinette winked. Adrien hugged Marinette immediately. "Thank you so much, Marinette, it means a lot," his face was toned slightly red.

He seemed to notice this. Nah, M'lady is the girl for me, at least I think so... Adrien thought quickly, Marinette interrupted this. Could I have a crush on Marinette? Adrien shook away the thought.

Adrien continued to moon over the thought of Ladybug, her smile, her hair, her pretty bluebell eyes- "ADRIEN!" Chloe squealed.

"I...Hey Chloe," Adrien quickly transferred back into reality. "Sabrina's out sick today, come sit beside me?" Chloe purposed as Marinette gave a small glare at Chloe. "Uh, if it's okay Chloe, I think I want to stay sitting beside Nino, he's one of my best friends," Adrien started to walk off.

"One of your best friends?" Nino asked with a laugh. "Who am I competing with?" He added quickly after. Adrien decided to play along "I mean, Marinette has to be very close with you, she's definitely one of my best friends," Adrien put his hand on her shoulder as she gave a large grin.

"A good friend huh," Alya pushed Marinette close to Adrien, so his arm rested on her shoulders. "I see a bit of romance," Alya said as Marinette's face turned into a tomato. "T-That's enough Alya," Marinette ran up to her as I laughed silently.

"You know, Alya is onto something," Nino pointed out as Adrien laughed. "I-I'm not sure about that," Adrien replied.

"Adrien, I'll be back in a half-hour," Natalie said as Adrien nodded. Adrien walked into the office and sat in the large chair he sat in before. "Plagg, I haven't been thinking about it, but Zoey knows who I am," Adrien bit his lip.

"Hello Adrien," Zoey walked into the room as he smiled slightly. "How have you been?" Zoey asked as he paused. Now, he could tell the truth and start to sob immediately. Or, he could lie. "I'm doing good," Adrien looked at his feet while he lied.

"That's great," Zoey semi-believe the statement. "So, I was thinking-" "Plagg-" "Hellooooooo!" Plagg swarmed around Zoey's head as she put her hands up. "A-A cat?" Zoey asked as Plagg stopped.

"Much better, a kwami! I'm Plagg," Plagg said as Zoey's eyes brows raised. "I-I'm sorry-" "No, no don't be. So this must be the 'imaginary friend' you are talking to," Zoey laughed quietly. "I see, nice to meet you too," Zoey smiled.

"So, have you been keeping care of my boy?" Zoey said as Adrien's eyes widened.

"Have you been taking care of my boy?" A slender woman with blond hair and emerald eyes asked. "Of course, I love Adrien," the other girl said. "I'm so glad," The woman said as Adrien smiled widely.

"Adrien?" Zoey asked as he jumped back to reality. "S-Sorry, just a bit distracted," "Oh, please tell me what's on your mind," Zoey said as Adrien shook his head. "It's nothing," Adrien said quickly. "Come on, your a smart boy, think a bit harder,"

"No, it's..." Adrien fumbled with his fingers. Adrien sighed. "It's my mom, you kinda sound like her," Adrien mumbled. "Ahh, Mrs. Agreste," Zoey's memory flooded back. "I never knew her personally, but I admired her," Zoey said.

"Really?" "Of course," Zoey smiled, Plagg flying back to Adrien. "So, how has family life been," Zoey asked as Adrien paused. His eyes drifted to Plagg as he shook his head slightly. Adrien's eyes widened. "Plagg, WAIT-"

"It's horrible!" Plagg shouted as Adrien stood up. "Wait-" "He doesn't get fed properly, his father shouts at him, all the time! He's never happy, he-" "PLAGG SHUT UP!" Adrien cried, tears escaping his eyes.

"Zoey, please help my boy! I can't do much I'm just a kwami," Plagg said in desperation as Adrien ran out of the room. "Adrien!" Zoey chased after him. "Adrien..." Zoey trailed off as he sobbed.

"Hey, it's okay," Zoey wrapped her arms around him. "Just, I need you, to be honest with me, how is life at home?" Zoey said as he shrugged, wiping his eyes. Zoey was patient, continuing to hug him as he sobbed.

"It's...horrible," Adrien cried.
