Chapter 5: Axe of the Conqueror
After leaving the Tomb of the Wise, Noctis and his crew, plus Cor, head to the next royal tomb where the prince can collect another royal arm.
Noctis: So just how many of these "powers" are out there?
Cor: There are thirteen known royal arms, each enshrined at a royal tomb, though we know the location of only a few. I've enlisted the help of the Hunters. They comb the land in search of the lost tombs.
Y/N: Where's the one you mentioned? The one nearby.
Cor: Keycatrich Trench. We know there to be a crypt deep inside the tunnels.
Moving down the path they went to go towards the tomb, sabertusks could be seen climbing up.
Gladiolus: Heads up!
Cor: No orders for me?
Ignis: No, this shouldn't require too much strategy.
Dashing forward with a warp-strike, Noctis pulls his sword out of the corpse of the sabertusk he killed, ducking as Y/N vaults over him, drawing his katana, swiftly eliminating the next sabertusk.
The red-haired male looks to his former teacher, both nodding as Cor slashes the first sabertusk coming towards him before tossing his own katana to Y/N, who cross guards an attack from the sabertusk and attacks right back, slashing twice in an x-formation with both blades. Tossing it back to Cor, the two resume back to fighting.
Noctis slashes one up and calls Prompto over, who slides in and shoots upwards, the bullet hitting the sabertusks head. The Crown Prince helps the blonde gunslinger up before they see a sabertusk lunge towards them, only for it to be hit by a giant broadsword. Behind them, Prompto quickly turns around and unloads a mag into a sabertusk that was attempting to attack them from behind. The last sabertusk was handled by Ignis, who swiftly uses his daggers to kill the animal.
Cor: Prompto, you alright?
Prompto: Uh, yes, sir. I'm fine, sir.
Cor: Good work there, Y/N. I have a fine student.
Y/N: Thank you, sensei.
They then proceed to the next tomb, Cor providing some history of what occurred there.
Cor: Long years ago, we waged a fierce battle here against the empire. It all went to ruin, and after that, the empire moved in like it owned the place.
They notice that there were magitek guards placed around the area. Deciding to sneak through, they remained out of sight, Noctis using his warp-strike to teleport behind the enemy and silently eliminate them.
The group was also wary of the animals that roamed the area as well. Oddly enough, they ignored the magitek guards, continuing about their business.
They were soon found by one of the local animals. It looked like a giant pig.
Prompto: Say, Marshal, how 'bout you show us how it's done?
Cor: No wimping out. Let's move.
Noctis threw his sword into the air, it embedding itself into the side of a wall. Ignis uses his daggers to mark his opponent, creating areas for Noctis to quickly warp to and strike. Y/N had jumped off a rock, igniting his sword into flames as he plunges it on the back of the beast, it screaming in pain as it wiggles around, attempting to knock Y/N off it's back. Y/N makes his sword disappear, jumping off the back of the beast. Noctis threw a fire spell towards Y/N, who catches it and throws it at the back of the animal. The spell explodes and it catches on fire.
(A/N): The spells in the game look like high-tech orbs with different colors depending on what spell it is. Red for fire, blue for ice, and yellow for lighting/sparks.
Gladiolus then summons his two-handed sword, using his Glaive Art, Tempest. Swinging three times, it disappears out of his hands as Noctis warps in, grasping the same two-handed sword as it brings it down on the animal's head, dealing massive damage.
Cor then prepares his blade. In the next second, it was drawn as he was behind the animal. The animal falls to the ground, dead as one of it's most distinctive feature, it's tusks, fall off.
Ignis then inspects the spoils, getting some meat off the animal. He then snaps his fingers.
Ignis: That's it!
Gladiolus: What's up, Iggy?
Ignis: I've come up with a new recipe!
Noctis: Huh. Can't wait to try it.
They proceed forward to Keycatrich Trench, coming across the entrance to what seems to be mine entrance. Various boxes and other utilities were lying about.
They go inside, but were halted as Cor goes into his pocket.
Cor: Here's where we go our separate ways. (hands key) Take this key. It unlocks the doors to the other tombs. Seek them out, and lay claim to the power they hold. You'll need it.
Noctis: And what will you do?
Cor: Keep an eye out on the Niffs. Find out what they're up to. But you should focus on your own task. And Y/N?
Y/N: Yes?
Cor: Remember your training. You are his sword.
Y/N: (bows) Yes, sensei.
With a nod, Cor turns around and leaves the cave entrance, leaving the other five to return their attention to the dark corridor that lie ahead of them.
Noctis: Here we go.
Gladiolus: Keep it real, huh?
They proceed in, turning on their flashlights so they could see in the dark. A door lay in front of them. Apparently, this area was used as a shelter when the war was still going on.
Going deeper, they come across a cable. Following it, they find a generator in a spacious room. It still worked so it started to run, turning on all the lights that were set up in the place. The go deeper to find even more corridors, but the doors were either locked or the entrances to that corridor were blocked with debris.
Since they could only go down a select few, the proceed down the ones they could. The ground above them starts to shake, startling them.
Prompto: What was that?
Gladiolus: My bad.
They could feel the shakes grow stronger, dust falling from the ceiling.
Prompto: If it's all the same to you guys...I'd rather not get buried alive.
Ignis: Yeah, let us be quick.
Y/N: Getting crushed by rocks...lovely.
They come across another door, Noctis pushing it slowly as it lets out an eerie creak.
Prompto: I hate that noise!
Gladiolus: What, too atmospheric for ya?
Y/N: You can always turn around, scaredy cat.
Prompto: I can feel eyes on us...the second we turn our backs, BAM!
Y/N: ...You are really asking for it, you know that?
Prompto: I really do like this place.
Gladiolus: Quit being a wuss.
They keep going, looking down the dark corridors as the dimly lit lights began to flicker.
Prompto: Um, hello? Anybody home? I'm...comin' in!
Y/N: Wimp.
Prompto: ...Ever wonder if people, like, died here?
Y/N: Who knows? We may find skeletons.
Going down the hall, they go into a larger room. A banging noise could be heard as Prompto lets out a terrified scream.
Ignis: What is it?
Prompto: (scared) I-I don't know.
Gladiolus: Whatever it is, it's playing with us.
Y/N: What, can't handle any tricks?
Prompto: Hey, wait.
Noctis: What?
Prompto: Need to brace for this.
Y/N: Just open the damn door already.
Prompto: Okay, I'm gonna count to three.
Noctis: (tries door) No good, it's locked.
Prompto: You're joking, right? Hellooo? Dude, did you hear anything I said?
Noctis: What--did you say something?
The banging noise could be heard coming from inside the door.
Prompto: It came from there.
Y/N: Well, since it's locked, how about we go down that one corridor we passed earlier?
Noctis: Sure.
They went back and go down to the corridor that was on their left, going even deeper into the trench. Going down a longer corridor, there was a room to their left.
Going in, movement could be heard above them.
Prompto: Look out!
Gladiolus: Above us!
Y/N: Something's coming from the ceilings!
A boulder comes down and Y/N runs forward, pushing Noctis out of the way as it misses them. With no one injured, they went back to the hall and went back to the original task at hand, finding the royal arm.
It looped back around, a bit aways from the entrance they went down. There was then another dead end on their left. It wasn't there before.
It wasn't until daemons came out of the ground from that dead end. They resembled goblins. Reading for battle, the summon their weapons. Because of the small space, Gladiolus couldn't do his big sweeps.
It wasn't until three loud shots were heard. Prompto's gun barrel was smoking, the three daemons that had attempted to attack them started to fade away. Shocked that Prompto was able to perform such a quick draw, they moved on, but not without congratulating Prompto for his skill.
They soon found an area in the wall, a hole to be exact. It was able to accessed by crouching, so one by one, they crouched and crawled through. They enter another hall and went down to the left, finding a narrow passage, but able to fit through and continue on. Going through various doors, Noctis and his friends would encounter goblin daemons, quickly making work of them in order to get to the royal arm they sought out.
Ten minutes of wandering, they found a crevice and went through and soon found the fabled door they were looking for.
This was the Tomb of the Conqueror.
Using the key he got from Cor, Noctis unlocked the door and pushed it open. The dark room then began to show light as the flashlights coming off the uniforms of the five. Stepping inside, in front of them sat a two-handed axe.
The Axe of the Conqueror.
The Crown Prince hovers his hand over it, the sword glowing and gleams a bright light as it rises into the air. It begins to crystallize, heading towards Noctis's body. It enters him, the weapon binding to his soul as the Sword of the Wise and the Axe of the Conqueror now orbit around him. Two out of thirteen weapons were now at his disposal.
Prompto: So, Noct borrows the old kings' powers?
Ignis: More or less. At this rate, he'll soon rival his father's legacy.
Y/N: I don't think Noct's looking to make a legacy.
Gladiolus: "The Copy Cat King."
Y/N: That name does suit him.
Noctis: Out of line.
Y/N: Finally taking up your role, huh? (bows jokingly) Whatever you command, my king.
Noctis: (chuckles) Knock it off.
Prompto: Well? What's it like?
Y/N: Does it feel painful? I mean, those weapons fly into your body. Are they stabbing you?
Noctis: Hmm...like I've got some tricks up my sleeve.
Gladiolus: No need to put on a magic show for us.
Ignis: But it never hurt to practice.
Now leaving the cave, they return to the entrance and Noctis receives a call.
Noctis: Yeah?
Cor: (on phone) Finally picked up. Thought I'd lost another king.
Noctis: (sigh) Just busy building my arsenal.
Cor: (on phone) Good to hear. I have a task for you. The empire's begun constructing a new base, along the road west to Duscae. I need you to put it out of commission. If left unchecked, it will cost us access to the west--and all the royal tombs that lie beyond. I believe you've met Monica. She can fill you in on the details. Go see her. (ends call)
Prompto: What's up?
Noctis: People to see, bases to burn. Let's go see Monica at the outpost.
The five of them then start to move back to the Prairie Outpost they parked the Regalia at.
Ignis: Come to think of it, we did spot a large structure. But first things first.
Noctis: Right. Let's head back to the outpost.
Upon at arrival of the outpost, the group went to talk to Monica, who was waiting by the small shopping stand that was set up there.
Monica: Your Highness. The marshal has apprised me of the plan. We've found a back door into the imperial base. I'll mark the route on your map. The way is secure. You should be able to gain entry relatively easily.
With an objective set, the five of them get back into the Regalia, driving towards the Norduscaen Blockade.
Since they were in a hurry, Y/N was driving the car this time. Since it was turning dawn, there were less cars on the road so Y/N was able to drive above the speed limit.
Prompto: So who is this Monica person?
Ignis: A servant of the Crownsguard, like Gladio, Y/N, and myself.
Gladiolus: She's one of my father's best. Along with Dustin--who's guarding my sister.
Noctis: Good to know we still have people we can count on outside the city.
Upon arrival at the meeting point, Monica spoke to them about the plan.
Monica: From here we will split into two groups. Prince Noctis, Lord Y/N, please join the marshal up ahead. The rest of you will assist me in the diversionary effort.
Noctis: (thoughts) So it's me, Y/N, and Cor, huh? (normal) I'll see you guys later.
Gladiolus: You go give 'em hell. We'll do the same on our end.
Noctis: Yeah. Ready to go, Y/N?
Y/N: Let us go.
A plan was now set in motion. Y/N and Noctis move through the crevice that was in front of them, heading to meet with Cor to assault the imperial base.
