Chapter 12: Dark Clouds
Several Days Later...
Lines of cars could be seen on the highways, night time. Magitek soldiers and snipers were posted out on the blockades, the gates closed.
The news was playing in the background.
Newscaster: (on radio) High Commander Ravus Nox Fleuret issued the following statement regarding the imperial blockades in the region...
Ravus: (on radio) We believe insurgents behind the Citadel attack have taken refuge in Duscae. The blockades shall help us root out the criminals. I realize the inconvenience imposed upon the citizenry, but we must each do our part for the good of all.
The magitek troopers moved down the line of cars, checking the occupants whether it was the Lucian Prince and his entourage, but to no avail, he wasn't in any of them.
Newscaster: (on radio) The high commander also stressed the imperial army would continue its recovery efforts in the Crown City. The frequent quakes which rocked the Duscae and Cleigne regions in recent days have finally quieted. In response, the empire provided the following comment...
Ravus: (on radio) The cause of the tremors was the Archaean, who had awakened in a fit of rage. The imperial army took swift action and laid the unruly giant to rest, thus averting the disaster.
The scene then changes, the shot taking them to the Disc of Cauthess. Imperial forces could be seen moving the royal car, the Regalia, onto an imperial transport.
Newscaster: (on radio) Eyewitnesses reports confirm Titan has disappeared from the Disc of Cauthess.
The shot then changes to the Noctis and his Crownsguard, minus Y/N, sitting at a table in Wiz's Chocobo Post, the man kind enough to let them stay.
Prompto: I still can't believe it. I mean, shouldn't the car have turned up by now?
Ignis: We should wait till Cindy and Y/N are done asking around the local garages before we despair.
Gladiolus: Let's not fool ourselves. The empire has it.
???: He's not wrong.
The other four look to Y/N, who was walking up to them with a small plate of sandwiches, courtesy of Wiz's chefs.
Y/N: I placed a small camera back in the Regalia before we left. The Niffs nabbed after the tremors were done. (sets plate down on table)
Prompto: Then maybe we can ask Ardyn to help us out again, right?
Y/N: Heh, fat chance.
Gladiolus: The imperial chancellor.
Ignis: He represents a problem, not a solution.
Y/N: Plus, the time he helped us, that was a one time thing.
Prompto: So where does that leave us?
Ignis: Stranded, awaiting a word from Hammerhead.
Y/N: Maybe they have some luck where the Niffs took it.
Gladiolus: In the meantime, we'll have to hoof it.
Y/N: Don't worry, I already bought us some chocobo tickets so we can get around.
Prompto: Look, it's Umbra!
Their attention was now pointed to where Prompto was pointing, indeed Umbra was right behind them.
Umbra then starts to lead them, the five following the black dog.
Ignis: Someone's sending us a message.
Chasing after Umbra, the five Lucians are led into the forest near them. Now in a private area, the dog stops.
Noctis was bewildered as to why Umbra led them here. He looked around for a little, until he shifted his head to the right more and he sees a familiar person. One he hasn't seen since his childhood.
Noctis: ...Gentiana.
Gentiana: Hear me, O King of the Stone. By the Stormsender's blessing will the path to the stone be opened. The Oracle goes hence in her King's name.
Noctis: Luna--where is she now?
Gentiana: The eye of the Storm. When the covenant is forged, the Oracle and ring shall await their King at the Walls of Water. Stray not from the path.
Looking down briefly, he looks back only to see she wasn't there. She disappeared.
Ignis: She's a Messenger, a spirit faithful to the Oracle.
Prompto: Uh...for real?
Gladiolus: Heh. (crosses arms) We're going beyond real now, pal.
Y/N: Walls of Water? Does she mean Altissia?
Umbra steps up towards Noctis, the Prince kneeling down as he pets the dog on the head before he moves down to the dog's bag, unwrapping the diary that was strapped there.
He flips through the pages and finds Luna's message, grateful to see that she still lives. It read, "My prayers are with you, Noctis."
Writing down what he knew, he straps the diary back onto Umbra.
Noctis: Let Luna know. I'm okay, and she won't have to wait much longer--we'll be together soon.
Flashback, Noctis's Memories, 12 years prior
Back in Tenebrae, a young Noctis and Lunafreya could be seen sitting on Lunafreya's bed, Lunafreya reading something out.
Lunafreya: The Crystal was gifted to mankind that we might know lasting prosperity.
Noctis: If the Crystal belongs to everyone, how come only Lucis gets to use it?
Lunafreya: The Kings of Lucis do not simply use the Crystal, they also protect it.
Noctis: Wait, so my dad's guarding it?
Lunafreya: Yes.
Noctis: (lays on bed) I had no idea.
Lunafreya: To crown the King of Light is the calling of the Crystal. And keeping the Crystal safe until that day falls to the line of Lucis.
Noctis: And I'm the Chosen?
Lunafreya: Yes. Only the True King, anointed by the Crystal, can purge our star of it's scourge.
Noctis: (fiddles with fingers) You...really think I can do that?
Lunafreya: (smiles) As Oracle, I will see to it. To aid the King is the Oracle's calling.
Noctis: Then...I guess I can do it. I won't let you down.
Lunafreya: I know you won't.
Flashback End
Noctis then stands up, hearing the voice of Gentiana.
Gentiana: Unto the King alone, this voice is heard.
Lighting strikes could be seen as the clouds start to darken, signalling where Noctis should seek out.
Gentiana: To follow the words is to follow the chosen path. Bridging heaven and earth it strikes, the Storm's ephemeral yet eternal Light. To the Light must go the King.
With his new objective, Noctis now must go around and collect the three runes of Ramuh hidden around Duscae.
Ignis: Lady Lunafreya has done well to keep the ring from falling into enemy hands.
Prompto: All we need to do is hit Altissia.
Y/N: Not without collecting the royal arms here first. There are still many that lie about in Duscae and some in the Cleigne region.
Ignis: But still, that entails passage aboard a ship. Caem may serve us now as it did them.
Y/N: I heard Jared had a hideout there. Think he has a ship we can use there?
Gladiolus: Hmm...the hidden harbor...hmph, just might work. I'll have Iris set it up. Yeah, there's a boat there.
Prompto: So in the meantime...
Noctis: We head into the Storm.
Prompto: Another day, another deity.
Calling their chocobos, they ride to where the lightning strikes were appearing.
Gladiolus: First Titan, now Ramuh. Chasing down deities are hard work.
Prompto: Think how Lady Lunafreya must feel.
Ignis: If the strain of the rites is as Gentiana suggested, I fear she's far worse off than we are.
The five of them ride as the rain pours down. As they rode, Noctis and his crew could see the various mechs and transports the imperial army had set up on the roads. Ravus wasn't at rest, determined to catch them.
Fifteen minutes later, they arrive at the canyon entrance they're supposed to be at.
Gladiolus: (groans) The hell? I can't get a hold of her.
Noctis: Iris?
Gladiolus: She call you?
Noctis: No messages.
Y/N: Think the imperial army are jamming signals?
Ignis: Possibly.
Entering in, they find the rune they were looking for.
Noctis touches the rune, purple lightning emanating off of it.
His eyes widen as he sees a memory.
Flashback, Noctis's Memories, 12 years prior
Noctis was in Tenebrae, Lady Lunafreya's bedroom as he was asleep on a wheelchair. In the other, Gentiana was sitting, staring out of the window.
Noctis wakes up, gasping as he wasn't sure who was in the room with him.
Gentiana: (smiles) Ah, the young prince is recovering well. (stands up)
Noctis: Who...
Gentiana: Gentiana, a Messenger. The Prince has read of our kind?
Noctis: Oh! I tried to, but I only know what Luna told me.
Gentiana: Lady Lunafreya.
Noctis: Yeah, Lunafr...Luna.
Gentiana: It is heartening to see the future king and Oracle enjoy such familiarity. The fate of our world may depend on it.
Flashback End
Noctis: I remember...back in Tenebrae with Gentiana...
Gentiana: The revelation of the Stormsender awaits the King...hurry hence to the eye of the Storm.
Looking around, he could only hear Gentiana's voice. He then clutches his head as Gentiana speaks some more.
Gentiana: Foreign hordes fear the True King's ascension. The fearful seek to seal the path of what must come.
Prompto: What is it? Another headache?
Noctis: I heard her--Gentiana.
Gladiolus: Divine voices in your head again?
Y/N: Wouldn't be too surprised.
Ignis: Hopefully it won't amount to the same headache it did with the Archaean.
Noctis begins to walk slowly, heading back towards the chocobos before Gentiana starts to speak in his head again, him clutching his head in slight pain once more.
Gentiana: The Oracle's call awakens the gods...that their blessings find the King.
Ignis: You alright? What did she say?
Noctis: Uh. That Luna is awakening the Six.
Y/N: Then we best make haste with our task. Gotta head to Altissia as fast as we can.
Noctis: Right.
Heading to the next location, where Ramuh is striking his lightning, they press onward, avoiding any magitek patrols they come across.
Prompto: So is Gentiana, y'know, human?
Y/N: I mean, she's a astral being...so I think not?
Ignis: Not quite. While not exactly gods, Messengers are divine entities.
Noctis: Just like the Oracle speaks to the gods for the people, the Messengers speak to the people for the gods.
Prompto: So she's Lady Lunafreya partner in divine.
Y/N: To sum it up, yes.
Prompto: So Iris's story about Lady Lunafreya coming through town was true after all.
Ignis: Judging by the timing of her visit...
Y/N: She probably had set course for the Archaean right after she fled the Crown City.
Gladiolus: You really owe her big time, Noct.
Noctis: Can't wait to thank her in person.
The blue lightning in the sky cracks, slightly scaring the birds. Gladiolus was still attempting to call his younger sister.
Gladiolus: C'mon, pick up.
Prompto: No luck?
Gladiolus: Probably got her phone on silent.
Y/N: I'm sure she'll return your calls. Just give her some time. After all, the imperial army has Lestallum on lock down.
Gladiolus: Yeah, you're right.
They see a imperial transport parked outside the gorge where they needed to go.
Dismounting the chocobos, they proceeded on foot, avoiding the magitek troopers that were posted in the area. As they drew near, Noctis then clutches his head once more as he hears Gentiana.
Gentiana: The covenant is forged, but the revelation awaits. Make now for the Stormsender and let judgement be passed.
Prompto: Noct! You okay?
Y/N: It's probably Gentiana's voice again.
Noctis nods as they head up the dirt path, seeing the lightning strike the second rune of Ramuh.
Noctis: Yeah. Another reminder to receive the blessing.
Gladiolus: That divine power's just waiting for you.
They arrive at the next rune and Noctis steps up to it, extending his hand as the purple lightning begins to appear.
With now receiving the second blessing, lightning strikes in another place, signalling Noctis's next to destination to receive the third and final blessing of Ramuh.
Gentiana: O King. Journey to the Fociaugh, the eastern hollow. The seal has been lifted. Deep within the heart of rocks lies the runestone, the portal to power. No other can be allowed to find it.
Noctis: (grunts) The last one's in the cave.
Gladiolus: Let's hurry up and get this over with.
Prompto: Finally! Time to meet with the Stormsender!
Ignis: You'd better look you're best.
Y/N: While the Stormsender may be a god, I don't think we'd need to look our best.
As they were about to leave, magitek forces were moving up the hill, heading to their location. They summon their weapons and prepare for battle.
Noctis: Last thing I need now.
Prompto: Eyes peeled, mouth closed.
Noctis rushes in, using the Sword of the Wise as he chains his warp-strikes together. Prompto hanged back as he uses his revolver. Ignis was moving around, making it harder for the gunmen to hit him as he throws his daggers.
Gladiolus swings his greatsword, eliminating three of them and he crouches down, Y/N jumping of the Shield's back as he tosses an ice spell below, freezing the magitek troopers below. Noctis then comes in, swinging the Blade of the Mystic as he eliminates the rest of the threat, the five of them free to traverse towards the last rune.
Riding on the chocobos, they traveled a good distance, dismounting as they run past some ruins.
Gladiolus: Amazing. The power of the gods in the palm of your hands.
Ignis: Never dreamt I'd see lore come to life before my very eyes.
Y/N: And here I thought I would spend my days in Insomnia, guarding this King with Gladio. Who knew we'd go on some wild adventure.
Prompto: Leaving Insomnia was eye-opening, but this is mind-blowing.
They stop as they hear thunder, lightning striking down a few feet from them, startling them.
Gladiolus: That one was pretty close.
Ignis: Which means we must be as well.
Y/N: There's a campsite nearby. Let's say we rest?
Noctis: Good idea.
Heading to the nearby campsite, they set up the essentials as it was getting dark and the rain was still pouring. The dinner was Breaded Cutlet with Tomato, of Ignis's and Y/N's favorite dishes.
With them well fed, they head inside the tent, Noctis and Prompto playing King's Knight, Gladiolus reading his book, Ignis on his phone reading a digital book called, Polished Fangs.
(A/N): Hmm, wonder who wrote that?
Y/N was inspecting his broadsword for any damages. Slightly dull, but still enough to cut through. In any case, he knew the group was going to need new weapons.
Retiring for the day, they would set out for the last blessing of Ramuh in the morning.

A little bonus. While I prefer the japanese dub of the game, Ray Chase (Noctis, Robbie Daymond (Prompto), Adam Croasdell (Ignis), and Chris Parson (Gladiolus) are good VAs as well.
Enjoy this little video. Don't own it btw.
