Chapter 7

Thunderburst watched Megatron closely as they walked to her room. He hadn't said anything other than he would have to think about it. As they approached her room, she slowed down. The warlord did the same. Neither of them seemed to want to leave the other's presence for some reason.

Inevitably, the door was soon in front of them, and it opened with the press of a few buttons. Thunderburst glanced up at Megatron, who seemed deep in thought.

"Megatron?" she asked hesitantly, not yet going into her room. He looked down at her, and his optics seemed to brighten a little at the sight of her looking up at him. But then they dimmed and he looked away.

"Can I ask who I remind you of?" he asked softly. Thunderburst bit her lip as she thought about it.

"I suppose it would only be fair, given the fact that I am asking you for something that could potentially make me more dangerous than I already am."

Megatron looked down at her, and she nodded her head for him to enter the room. The door closed behind her, and she sat down on the side of her berth. The warlord stood awkwardly, unsure of where to sit.

"Come sit by me", Thunderburst said softly. "It's a long story."

Megatron did as she said, though he still sat a couple feet away. Thunderburst stared at the ground, working up the courage to begin her story. She took a deep breath, and uttered the words that the story would begin with.

"His name was Skyquake", she said softly. "And he was my best friend before the war. We did everything together. We met when we were sparklings. Due to me being smaller than him, I was able to help cause a lot of trouble."

Thunderburst paused, lubricant welling up in her eyes. "But then Orion met you. He told me often about this amazing gladiator named Megatronus. He spoke highly of you. You inspired him so much, and when you began working together, he found himself thinking of you like a brother. I had often wanted to meet you, but I was busy whenever Orion went to meet you. And then you went before the Council. That's when everything fell apart. You started a war. Cybertron divided into factions. The corruption that you had seen was still there, but now it was overshadowed by a new corruption. The corruption of a madman who would do anything to have the ultimate power. The power of a Prime."

The femme took a breath, unsure of how to continue. "I followed Optimus. He was my brother, and I didn't want to let him down. I still don't but now I'm not just following him because he is my brother. I am following him because I know that he was the right option all along. Skyquake had begged and pleaded for me to join the Decepticons with him, but when I refused, he grew angry with me."

The Autobot hugged her arms to herself. "I had seen him angry, but he had never been angry at me. I thought he was going to storm off, but... he attacked me instead. And since the war had just barely started, I had no training whatsoever. And with my size... I'm sure you can imagine what happened."

Megatron was silent, and when she glanced at him, she could see his sorrow. She hesitated before gently resting a servo on his upper arm. He turned his helm away from her, so she couldn't see his face. She sighed and pulled her servo away.

"By the time I was found, I was near death. The minute I was completely healed, Optimus began my training. He didn't want what had happened to happen again. It was hard, because I didn't want to hurt anyone as much as Skyquake had hurt me."

Megatron still did not say anything, and Thunderburst hugged her arms to herself. They sat in silence for what felt like hours, until the warlord finally said something.

"I never considered what my actions might have caused others to do when their friends or family did not pick the same side as them", he murmured. "I never considered that it could have broken others apart like it broke Optimus and I apart."

Thunderburst smiled softly. "But now that you can see that, you understand that things could have been different, right?"

Megatron sighed. "Perhaps", he murmured. "But it is too late to change the path, and my future is already set in stone."

"No, it's not", the femme argued. "It's never too late to change!"

The warlord did not say anything and instead stood, and walked to the door. He paused there, and glanced back at the femme.

"I will return later to inform you of my decision for your request", he said stiffly, before he disappeared into the hallway, leaving the Autobot alone in her room.
