Chapter 28

Author's pov

Noor is coming back from work with the driver. When there is a jam on the road.

"Kya hua Jagdish uncle? (What happened, Jagdish uncle?)" She asked, looking out at the crowd.

"Pta nhi bahu rani. (No idea, bahu rani.)" Drive replied.

She stepped down and saw a man beating a girl. She is younger than her, around 18–19 years old, and the crowd is enjoying the show silently.

Noor couldn't resist herself anymore and was holding that girl. Came between them.

"KYA KER RHE HO? PAGAL HO KYA? (What are you doing? ARE YOU MAD?)" Noor yelled at that man.

He is smelling like alcohol, which means he is a drunkard.

"Tum theek ho? (Are you ok?)" She asked that girl. She nodded, but she was shivering badly.

"OYE!!!!" That man roared, and that girl hid behind Noor, trembling in fear. "Tu kon hai? Chll hatt (who are you? Get away,)" that man said in his sloppy, drunken voice.

He tried to hold the girl from behind, but Noor jerked his hand away.
"AEYYY!!" He screamed, but Noor pushed him away, and he stumbled and fell to the ground.

"Didi, please mujhe bacha lo. (Sister, please save me.)" The girl pleaded with Noor, joining her hands.

"Kon hai ye? (Who is he?)" Noor asked, caressing her head.

"Mere dusre baba (my stepdad)" She cried.

"Or tumhari Maa? (And your mother?)" Noor ask.

"Marr gaii (she is dead)" The girl cried.

"Shush. Roo nhi (don't cry)" Noor embraces her.

"Chod isse!" (Leave her)". That man stood up on his feet and held that girl's wrist. She started crying.

"Didi, please bacha lo mujhe (please save me, sister)." That girl cried even more.

Noor held that man's arm and twisted his wrist. "Hath lgaya to todh du gii (I will break your hand if you touch her again)." Noor warned, twisting his hand, and that man cried in pain.

"Jagdish uncle police ko phone lgaiye (call the police Jagdish uncle)," Noor said to her driver, and she kicked that man. He knelt while crying in pain.

"Don't worry, bache." Noor assured that girl, and she hugged Noor tightly.

"Please didi bacha lo wrna ye mujhe maar denge (please save me, didi, or he will kill me)." The girl is crying hopelessly.

"No, he will not. I'm here." Noor assured her. "Jagdish uncle, take her to the car." She said this to her driver.

"Yeh kahi nhi jae gii." The man tried to get up, but Noor kicked him again, and he fell on his mouth.

"Shame on you all." Noor hissed at the crowd.

Her driver took that girl to the car and gave her water. By the time the police arrived,
They arrested that man and took the girl's statement.

She told them that he was her stepfather. He killed her mother when she tried to save her from him because he was trying to touch her inappropriately. When she tried to run after her mother's death, he caught her and beat her in the middle of the road.

Hearing her words, Noor closed her eyes to control herself and not kill that monster right away. Police arrested that man, and Noor talked to the inspector and took the girl to one of Ira's orphanages.

"Tumhara naam kya hai? (What is your name?)" Noor, ask her.

"Prachi," she said, crying.

"Roo nhi Prachi. He is gone, and I will make sure he dies behind bars." Noor assured her.

"Really dii?"

"Yes bache."

By the time they reach the orphanage, the girl asks, "Dii, what is this place?"

"It's an orphanage managed by my Maa. You can stay here. The NGO my Maa handles will look after you and your studies. You are not alone anymore." Noor said, and the Warden saw her and came running towards her.

"Bahu Rani Namaste. Aap yahan? (You here?)" Warden ask.

"Namaste. " Noor replied, "I'm here to drop her off here. She will stay here from now on, and Maa will handle the rest. I will tell her."

"Sure." Warden nodded and took the girl's hand, but before leaving, that girl held Noor's hand.

"Didi, please don't leave me." She cried.

"Prachi. Bache. They will take care of you." Noor assured her.

"But I'm scared." She was crying.

"Don't be. They will protect you. They will take care of you. My Maa takes care of this place. Don't worry, okay, and I will come and visit you."

"Pakka promise?" She ask.

"Promise," Noor said, and she hugged Noor tightly.

"Dii, what is your name?"

"Noor," Noor replied.

"Thank you so much, Noor Didi. For coming like an angel in my life." Girl said, and Noor smiled, caressing her head.

"Take care of yourself, and I will come and visit you." Noor said that and left.

Meanwhile, in Randhawa Mansion, Ira is worried about her mother. Who didn't come yet?

The doorbell rang, and Ira came running in hope of her mother, but to her disappointment, it's Veer and Pratap.

"You two." She said it disappointingly.

"Then who are you waiting for, Maa?" Veer ask.

"What happened, Ira?" Pratap is worried.

"Pratap, I have no idea where Maa is." Ira said

"Prikshit told me that she got flight..." but a roaring voice cut Pratap's words.

"And she is still alive." Arunima said, and they all turned to look at her standing in the doorway.

"Maa." Ira ran to her mother and hugged her.

"Peri pouna sasu Maa." Pratap said, foot-wishing her.

"Kinna k paina? (How much are you going to touch them?)" Arunima said, and Pratap got back to his place, gulping.

"Nani meri jaan." Veer ran to her, but before he could hug her, she held his ear and pulled it harshly.

"Ouch!! Nani." Veer winced in pain.

"Nani k bache shaadi kerli? (You son of grandma, you got married?)" Arunima said.

"Maa, please beat him as much as you want, but please first sit down and drink water." Ira pleaded, and Arunima left Veer's ear and sat on the couch.

Ira gave her water, then asked, "Why do you need to come by changing flights?"

"No, I didn't have to change different flights." Arunima replied.

"Then how do you come? Jet was with Prikshit." Pratap ask.

''Well, not everyone is useless like our kids." Arunima said, and Veer pouted. "I met a very adorable and nice couple at the airport. They helped me." Arunima said. "The girl was so nice and sensible that I thought to make her my bahu, but unfortunately she was already married, so she and her husband Henry both helped me. They offered me their jet."

"Maa, how can you travel with complete strangers alone?" Ira is worried.

"Oh no, I didn't travel with them. The Brown's had to stay in London; their jet left me." Arunima said.

"Brown? As if Henry Brown?" Pratap ask.

"Yes, anphad kumar (Mr. Uneducated)." Arunima said to Pratap:

"Yar Nani I am trying hard to get an opportunity to get a deal with Brown's, and you got their jet? Woah!" Veer exclaimed.

"Huh?" Arunima asks, confused.

"Sasu Maa, they are the biggest business family in the U.S.A.; it's Veer's dream to work with them." Pratap replied.

"Oh." She nodded, understanding, "I really liked both husband and wife. He married a very nice Indian girl."

"Yeah, the news was all over the place and spread like wildfire when he came to marry her here last year." Veer replied.

"Or ek tu hai jo chup chaap shaadi ker Aya. (And here is you, who got married quietly,)" Arunima taunted.

"Nani....."

"Bkwas na marri mai chittar marna kanjar de. Pta ni kisnu viyah lyaya? (Don't talk bullshit, or I'm going to beat you bastard with my slipper. Don't know whom you married?" Arunima said, cutting Veer and Pratap slides into his seat.

"Maa Noor is very nice. You gonna....."

"Shut up, Ira." Her mother cut Ira off. "I don't know anything about that girl. Who is she? What does she do? Which family does she belong to? Nothing at all." Arunima said, then asked, "Whose daughter is she? Is her family honorable or not? What was her full name before marriage?" Arunima asked Veer's parents, who looked at him.

Seeing everyone quiet, Arunima asks again, "What is her name, Veeru?"

Veer gulped, then answered, "Noor alam shah."

"Hainnnnn?" Arunima is in shock.

'"A Muslim girl? Veeru Tera dimag khrab ho gya c kya? (Veer, have you gone mad?)" Arunima scolded him. "Haii Rabbah!!! (Oh Goddd!)  Why these useless bastards you have given me?" Arunima glared at him.

"What happened just happened. There is no use crying over spilled milk." Arunima sighed. "Where is she?"

"Maa, where is Noor?" Veer ask.

"You should know. She didn't come back yet." Ira replied, and Arunima slowly clapped.

"Waah!! You know what? I have missed two perfect girls because of your nonsense. One was married, and the other just  disappeared."Arunima said.  "Samriddhi was married, and the other girl I saw on the road was so furious and bold. Seeing her courage, I got impressed, but before I could get a chance to talk to her, my idiot taxi driver drove away, or I will definitely make her my bahu."

"What, Maa?" Ira asks, confused.

"Aree there was a crowd gathered on the road, and a man was..." Arunima stopped in her tracks and said, "YOU?" in shock.

Everyone turned and saw Noor coming in.
