Chapter 23

Ignore the mistakes :)

Taehyung already owned a Mansion back in Seoul, so it did not come as a surprise to Jungkook when the elder stopped his car in front of a tall building, that screamed money and looked just as classy and ritzy as Taehyung. Jeongguk suddenly felt small in the latter's presence but he buried that feeling in the deepest pit of his heart where he had locked away all his other insecurities, letting all his self-doubting thoughts to get acquainted with each other.

He followed behind Taehyung carrying his bag in his hand, while his shoes left behind a tiny screech with every step he took from the friction against the flooring. So much for saving money and buying shoes from a flea markets. Well at least they look good. Jungkook thought as his eyes roamed around to explore the interior of the building. He could not believe that he will be spending his days here soon. His life just got an update of the century.

"Might be too soon, but what exactly do you do for a living to afford this place. I hope it doesn't involve a man putting me on a gun point someday, just to ask me about your whereabouts. I'm a man with a faint heart who always fancies a civil conversation so I would appreciate it if you warned me before hand. That being said, I can assure you that I can keep secrets." Taehyung looks back with a chuckle as he slides up the sleeves of Jungkook's sweatshirt that were coming down to make sweater paws, to press the button to the top floor.

"I was simply born with a silver spoon. Nothing inspirational really. So when I had to care for a son at the age 19, I just decided to accept the riches that I was offered. I work hard now, but no, my job doesn't pay me enough to afford a penthouse. My father's does." It was fascinating to Jungkook that Taehyung did not try to sugarcoat his words and wind up a story that would make him sound like a perfect role model of a person that everyone would look up to. Doesn't mean he's anything less than amazing either.

"Don't tell this to Taejung though. He believes I own Gucci with how many products I own of it and all that modeling I did here and there. And I do not have the heart to break such precious speculation of his. Surely someday though." Now it was Jeongguk's turn to laugh and it hurt to do so. All these after effects of their separation had took a toll on his body and it also included his lips. They were dry and chapped now, causing them to sting everytime he spread them wide to smile. A mental reminder for him to buy a chapstick.

"Remind me to give you a lipbalm." And Jeongguk's heart swells with the fact that Taehyung noticed. He knows his cares. There's just something holding him back and it has something and everything to do with his previous mate's death and Jeongguk will do everything in his power to find that out.

"You see that door on the left. You can stay there. The room on the right is mine. Taejung's room is this one. Go and freshen up, settle down, I'll put my clothes in the machine in the meantime." Taehyung said respectively pointing at two rooms up the stairs and one on the ground floor, before turning around to leave but Jeongguk stopped him before he could.

"I'll do that Hyung. It's your first day of periods, you should rest. I saw you wincing every now and then." Taehyung stared at Jeongguk for a few seconds, as if contemplating something before shrugging his shoulder.

"Sure." He said, as he handed his blood stained clothes to Jeongguk and walked away to sprawl out on the couch before picking up the remote to scroll through Netflix. Jeongguk just stared at him in slight disbelief, as he had expected some resilience from the latter, even a slightest bit of hesitation but he got none. He could already tell that his mate is going to be a handful in the future, and he was honestly up for anything he could get.

"Make sure to use fabric softener. The material of that dress is delicate." He then muttered something under his breath which would have been inaudible to human ears, but luck was on Jeongguk's side, as he heard him clearly saying, "fuck I'm out of chips."

"Jeongguk when you're done bathing, go to the kitchen and check the top cabinets. You'll find some bags of churritos. Bring me two." Just as Jeongguk was about to leave, a voice interrupted him again.

"You know what? Make it three." And like an obedient puppy excited to impress his owner, Jeongguk ran up to his room, fueling with enthusiasm to do his assigned chores in order to impress Taehyung. He took the shortest shower ever, since he knew he'd have to spend some extra time trying to find out all the things needed to wash Taehyung's clothes, which included a specifically requested fabric softener.

By the time Jungkook was done, he came back to find Taehyung in the exact same position he had left him in. Sprawled out on the couch, legs spread wide and fingers tapping furiously on the remote control, still trying to figure out what to watch among the numerous options in the section of movies and tv shows. At this moment Jeongguk found it hard to believe that this same man was a father of a four year old angel. Speaking of whom, Jeongguk really missed him right now. His non-existent wolf that bonded with that little devil, so now it was hard to stay from him as well. He wished he could talk to him right now. Better yet, have him in his arms and pepper his adorable face with kisses. Spin him around so hear him giggle. Jeongguk desperately just yearned to have a happy family, and everyday he questioned the moon goddess why that was too much to ask for.

"Your three bags of churritos, just like you asked. And I have washed your clothes and now they're drying. I would recommend watching the Danish girl, it's a masterpiece." Jeongguk said, taking at the remote from his mate's hand and playing the movie for him. Taehyung just hummed in response as he opened the bag of junk food and started munching on the spicy treat, all the while Jeongguk waited to hear some words of appreciation for his work. Taehyung felt a lingering gaze on him and turned to look at the younger who was staring at him with eyes full of expectation making him scowl.

"What do you want? A pat on your head for being good boy?" Taehyung asked him with his one eyebrow raised, and with a gradually fading smile, Jeongguk nodded his head.

"That would be nice." Jeongguk whispered softly, with a shy blush.

"You're going to live in this house, so you'll have to do your share of chores. I don't see why you want to be appreciated for that. Washing one pair of clothes wasn't even much. Get over yourself." Now that small smile was gone completely, and replaced with a gentle hold of his bottom lip between his teeth. He casted his head down and mentally scolded himself for being so childish. "Of course it's not a big deal to do some basic chores. You need to grow up Jeongguk. This is the reason why no one likes you." The thought ran in his head as he pulled on a smile on his face again, to mask his sadness that shouldn't have made its appearance on his face at all. But Jeongguk took pride in being a quick learner, and reassured himself that he'll improve himself soon.

"Where is Taejung, Hyung? Why isn't he here?" Jeongguk asked, eagerly wanting to know about the whereabouts of his favourite toddler.

"He stayed back with his grandparents because he had made a new friend. Won't be back anytime soon so you don't need to be concerned." It really hurt Jeongguk's heart to know that Taehyung was ready to keep his son away from him just so he couldn't meet with Jeongguk. He wanted to get close to Taehyung and earn his acceptance but the last thing he wanted, was to be the reason for the separation of a father and a son. What kind of selfish mate would that make him? With how gently Taehyung had treated him just a few minutes ago, Jeongguk had grown hopeful that maybe now Taehyung's heart had softened for him. Clearly that was not the case, and the elder had just taken a pity on his condition. Yes, it felt good even to earn his mate's commiseration. But what he yearned for, was his love not his sympathy.

Jeongguk still wouldn't give up so soon, but he definitely had to weigh the prices now.

"I will move back to my rented apartment Hyung. You don't have to keep Taejung away from you just because of me. An Alpha can live without his Omega but a son shouldn't live without his mother."

"And what? Leave you to starve yourself to death? Apparently my four year old son can manage just fine without his mother but a full grown man can't. If you leave, then you go back to your family or else you stay here right infront of my eyes. Choice is yours Jeongguk." With that Taehyung stormed away from the hall and into his room, not before throwing a chapstick in Jeongguk's lap. Leaving behind a broken hearted Alpha who now had fresh set of tears streaming out of his eyes.

"It hurts." V wailed in his head.

"I know."

"It hurts him more."

"I know."
