Chapter Six

Things were so much worse than I had originally thought they were. Baron was in very critical condition, if I'm being honest we were all waiting for the doctor to tell us he had passed away.

Everyone was on edge, every time we saw the doctor come towards us, we would all tense, thinking it was about Baron. After Jeremy and I returned to the pack hospital, I got Amara, who is Baron, and Emma's daughter checked out. After the doctor gave her a clean bill of health he turned towards me, and let me tell you it wasn't pretty. The last person who went off on me like that was Baron's father.

So I was being a good little wolf and stayed on bed rest, but one condition had to be met before I agreed to do it. Amara had to stay in here with me at all times, they agreed to it and well here we are, me stuck in bed twenty-four seven, it wasn't all bad though, I was getting to spoil my Goddaughter.

Amara was currently being fed by Katie, who hasn't left our side since we returned. Seeing Katie hold Amara is making Micah go crazy, and honestly me as well. I kept thinking things like, what if that was our pup or what would she look like when she'd carry our future pups.

Katie placed her empty bottle down on the table beside her, placing a burping rag on her shoulder, before she started to burp Amara. Katie looked over at me, giving me a weird look.

"Why are you staring at me like that?" She asked.

"Sorry," mumbled out before averting my gaze.

I could feel myself reverting back to my old self, my old self that was cold to everyone, and that was something that scared me, I was already on thin ice with the Elders.

"It's ok," Katie said.

This is also another thing that has changed, I'm not sure if Katie is feeling the mating pull, but we've gotten closer. Not as close as Micah would like for us to be, but we have gotten closer, there are some days where she practically lives in this room with us.

"We're never going to get anywhere with you acting like this," Micah exclaimed in frustration.

"Yeah yeah," I muttered back.

"You need to trust people more."

"And you need to be more careful, just because we're mates doesn't mean she's not a danger to us," I spat back at him, causing him to growl lowly at me.

"Why are you so convinced everyone will leave you?"

"Because everyone eventually does Micah, and one day you probably will as well," I said, blocking him before he could say anything else.

"You don't look happy," Katie said, as she placed a sleeping Amara in her bassinet.

"Just Micah," I grumbled out.

"Is that your wolf?"

"Yeah, he's a pain in my ass sometimes."

"Feelings mutual," Micah said causing me to roll my eyes.

"Do you two not get along well?" Katie asked, taking a seat on the bed so that she was sitting in front of me.

"Sometimes we do, but most of the time we don't."

"I see," she said, as the room grew quiet.

"Can I ask you something?" she asked after a few minutes had passed.

"Sure."

"Do you not like having a wolf?"

I sat there for a minute, just thinking over her question.

"Honestly no," I replied, causing Micah to tense.

This was always a touchy subject for me, Micah has been the only constant thing that I've had in my life. Hell, he's the only reason I'm alive, if it hadn't been for him I would've died the night my uncle attacked me. Then again, he's also the reason that I was almost killed, when I had gone under the possession the whole pack had thought I had gone feral, they were all ready to have the Elders put me down.

If it hadn't been for Baron I wouldn't be here, but if I hadn't been so weak and fought back against Micah when he had started taking over, I wouldn't have ended up in that position.

"Sometimes I wish I hadn't been born into such a fucked up world, I wish I could've been normal you know, but then at the same time I'm happy I was born into this world, because if I hadn't I wouldn't have met the people who matter the most to me, and I wouldn't have met you either."

Katie gave me a sad smile, as she listened to me ramble on.

"The thing is, Micah and I just aren't compatible with each other, we both want different things, and he's more of the lone-wolf type, he was never meant to be held down like this. You know as children we were taught that the moon-goddess never made mistakes, but the older I get the more I'm starting to disagree with that theory," I stated.

"Did something happen between you and Micah to make you feel like this?" Katie asked.

"When I was seventeen I almost went feral," I said, you would think I would be ashamed to even talk about my past, but I'm not. I worked my ass off to get to where I am in life, I had nothing to be ashamed of.

Katie gasped at my words clearly shocked, hell who wouldn't be? Looking at me, you wouldn't be able to tell I had gone through something so awful.

"How?"

"Well I was going through a really tough time, I had just lost my father, the last little bit of family I had left. Everything just became too much for me, I kept having panic attacks and flashbacks to some things that had happened in my past, then the next thing I know, I felt nothing but peace and calmness. It didn't last long though, Baron somehow brought me out of it, I still don't know how he did it, but I'm grateful that he did."

"I'm sorry you had to go through all of that, I can't even imagine how hard that must've been for you," Katie said, taking my hand in hers, giving it a reassuring squeeze, before letting go. I grabbed her hand before she could fully let go, she looked down at our hands, blushing as I intertwined our fingers.

"Katie."

"Yes?"

"Can I ask you something now?" I asked.

"Of course."

"How does a human end up in a pack full of wolves?" I asked, causing her eyes to widen in shock at my question.

"W-What?" she stuttered out.

"Did you think that I wouldn't notice your scent?"

"Well, all of my parent's children are adopted, I am the only human though, my parents adopted me after my biological parents had passed away. They were all good friends so when they passed my parents didn't bat an eye when it came to bringing me into our weird little family," Katie said, as a small smile pulled at her lips.

"You seem happy here."

"It's not bad here, I sometimes feel like I don't fit in with everyone, but other than that it's not bad," Katie said.

There was something about her statement that just wasn't sitting right with me, it was as if she was trying to convince herself that things were all sunshine and rainbows here. But judging by how her posture and how her heart rate had changed, I could tell she was lying.

"Do you have a mate?" Katie asked, completely out of the blue.

"Huh?" I asked.

"Sorry that was kind of random, wasn't it?"

"No it's fine," I said, as she looked away from me, clearly embarrassed, I couldn't help but smile.

Why was she so cute!

"I do, by the way."

"Do what?" she asked, turning her attention back on me.

"I do have a mate."

The room fell into a comfortable silence as we just sat there staring at one another. I moved closer to her, her cheeks turning red as she carefully watched every one of my movements.

"So, uh, w-who is i-it?" she stuttered out.

"It's you," I said as we started to lean towards each other, well, that was until the door to the room opened causing us to jerk away from each other.

Looking over, I see four people standing there and two of them didn't look too happy, and I can only guess it was towards me. Calum and Trenton stood there glaring at me, while Jesse and some man I didn't recognize stood next to them.

"Oh my god, Erik is that you?" Katie excitedly yelled out as she ran over to him.

"Hey sweetie," the man known as Erik said, scooping her up into a big hug. Letting her go as he looked over at me then back at Katie.

"So, who's this?" he asked.

"This is Casey, he's um, he's-,"

"I'm her mate," I finished for her, glaring at Erik's arm that was lingering around Katie's waist, I guess Erik got the message because he didn't waste any time removing it.

Everyone had a shocked expression at my announcement, well except Trenton who looked like he was ready to shift and rip me to pieces.

"Well congratulations then," Erik said, walking over to me, sticking his hand out for me to shake, I grasped his hand firmly as we shook hands.

"My name's Erik, it's very nice to meet you."

"It's nice to meet you as well."

We released each other's hands as he took a seat in one of the many chairs in the room.

"Katie can you leave us for a little while, there are some things we need to discuss in private" Trenton stiffly said, never taking his eyes off of me.

"But-" Katie began.

"Sorry, hun but this is an official pack business."

"Alright, I understand."

Katie said goodbye to everyone before she started heading towards the door.

"I'll be back later ok," Katie said, as she opened the door.

"Ok," I said as she left the room, leaving me alone in a room with two Alphas, one who may I add looked extremely pissed off still.

"You're probably wondering why we're all here right?" Calum asked.

"Yeah."

"They need to talk to us about everything that went on," Jesse said as he flopped down on the bed beside me, did I mention that their hospital beds were huge here. Jesse kicked his shoes off as he made himself comfortable.

"What are you doing?"

"Getting comfortable, I have a feeling we'll be here for a while," he said.

I looked between the three of them, as dread filled my body, I had a feeling that this was going to be a long few hours.
