Chapter Four
(Trenton’s pov)
“Hello?”
“Callum I need your help.”
After I had left the pack’s hospital, I went straight to my office to call my brother, the only person I knew who could help Casey.
“What’s wrong?” He asked, sounding concerned.
“Just come over here please, it’s too much to say over the phone.”
“Are Destiny and the kids ok?”
“Yeah we’re all fine, just get over here.”
“I’m on my way, just give me a few minutes.” With that, he hung up.
I placed my phone on my desk, leaning back in my chair letting out an exhausted sigh.
Calum was my older brother, he was originally supposed to take the Alpha position after our father stepped down, but when Calum was seventeen he found out he wasn’t like most Alphas out there. At seventeen he found out he was an Elder, and a high ranking one at that.
So he left home to go train, leaving me here to take over the pack. I was an Alpha myself but I was a second born Alpha, I might be strong but I’m nowhere near as strong as a firstborn Alpha. I had tried everything to keep Calum at home. I was fourteen when he left, I was not ready to be thrust into such an intimidating role as Alpha.
Calum told me that I’d be a fine Alpha, he knew I would be, but that wasn’t the problem I was having. My problem was that I’d have to go to Alpha camp, second-born Alphas weren’t exactly welcomed all too well there.
But I listened to my brother's encouraging words, went to Alpha camp, and proved to everyone that I was indeed a strong and reliable Alpha that they needed. My pack was a little skeptical to accept me at first and honestly, I couldn’t blame them. Everyone was expecting Calum to take over but after a while, they warmed up to me.
“Trenton are you in there?” I heard my Beta, Mekhi say before knocking on my office door.
“Come in.”
The door to my office opened, revealing my best friend and Beta standing there. Drenched in sweat, and covered in what I was really hoping to be dirt.
“Why are you so dirty?” I asked, covering my nose, trying desperately to block out the terrible stench that was coming from him.
“I am never volunteering to train those little shits ever again,” Mekhi growled out, before plopping down on one of the sofas that were in my office.
“Why do you stink so bad?”
“I slipped in the mud, but I’m not so sure now that it was just mud.”
Mekhi made a disgusted face as he looked down at his dirty clothes.
“I’m telling you, Trenton those “pups” are fucking demons spawns, I swe-“
“What the hell is that God awful smell?” Calum asked, interrupting Mekhi’s little rant.
Calum stood in the doorway of my office, covering his nose as he stared at Mekhi.
“Mekhi, is that you who stinks so bad?”
“Don’t start with me Calum, you have no idea what I’ve been through today,” Mekhi exclaimed.
“For the love of God Mekhi, please go shower,” I begged him.
He huffed in annoyance before standing and storming out of my office. I stood from my chair, walking to the windows, before opening them, letting fresh air enter the room. I could hear Calum close the door, followed by his footsteps that were growing closer to me.
I turned around to see him standing in front of my desk, staring at me, probably waiting for me to explain why I asked him here.
“So?”
“So?”
“Why am I here?” Calum asked.
I opened up my laptop, turning it towards him. He looked at the screen before looking at me, clearly confused.
“His name is Casey Brenton, he’s the Beta to the Blue Forest Pack. Katie brought him home last night while he was passed out in wolf form. I took him to Andrew and he was able to get him to shift back during the night. When he awoke earlier he started begging me to help his pack, talking about how his pack was hit by Rogues and that there are people dead and severely injured,” I informed him.
His eyes widened as he looked back down at my laptop screen, examining Casey’s picture and information better.
“He’s really grown up,” Calum mumbled under his breath.
“Wait, you know him?”
“Yeah I know him,” Calum said, his face wearing a pained expression.
“So what’s his back story?”
“When Casey was around ten or so, his entire family except his father and him was brutally murdered by his uncle.”
At that moment, I could’ve sworn I felt my heart stop beating at the words my brother had just spoken.
“Why would his uncle want to do that?”
“Well Casey’s dad had “stole” his mate, so one night he decided to do something about it, you know how the story goes, it’s the whole ‘if I can’t have her, then no one can’.”
Calum’s eyes had grown sad as he stared down at the photo of Casey.
“It’s a miracle that he’s even able to function so well.”
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“The night Casey’s family had been killed, he had been playing over at a friend’s house. When he came home later that night, he found his uncle cradling his mother’s bloody corpse in his arms. His uncle was screaming about how sorry he was, and how it didn’t have to turn out this way. His uncle didn’t even know he was there until he heard Casey scream, his uncle had picked up the same knife he had killed his family with and charged at him. Casey was stabbed twenty times, but luckily none of them were fatal. Casey said his uncle was about to set the house on fire when Casey turned for the first time.”
All I could do was stand there, and stare at my brother in disbelief. How was it possible for a ten-year-old to transform into his wolf form at such a young age. Normally we don’t shift until at least thirteen.
“How?”
“The Elders said the trauma he experienced that night threw him into an early shift, from what I was told he’s the only person to ever shift that young.”
“So what happened after he turned?” I asked.
“His wolf took over and he killed his uncle. When we arrived, we found his father trying to calm him down, we eventually had to sedate him because we couldn’t get his wolf to calm down, or let Casey back in control, took the elders a week to finally get him to shift back.”
“What happened after that?”
“I’m not sure really, I know he was relocated to a different pack, but that’s all I know.”
“Jesus,” I mumbled to myself as I tried to take in all the information I had just been given.
Calum sighed heavily before plopping down in one of the chairs that sat in front of my desk.
“So?”
Calum looked up at me, arching one of his eyebrows, waiting for me to go on.
“What should we do?”
“I’ll send word back to the main office, they’ll round up their best Enforcers to check it out,” Calum said.
“Good, I guess I’ll go and give Casey the good news then.” I was halfway into a standing position when Calum stopped me.
“Can I be the one to tell him? I’d like to see him.”
“Sure. He’s in room two thirty-four,” I said, Calum thanked me before exiting the room in a hurry.
After Calum left, I turned my laptop back towards me. I sat there, staring at Casey’s picture, had he really been through all of that, he seemed fine back there.
I closed out of his profile, making myself get back to work, Calum said he would handle everything, so I had to have faith in him, I had to let him handle this.
