jinx; shoots wind out of the wand tip

-

WHEN EVELINA HEADED BACK TO HER DORM, it was late. Shadows were scattered across the halls, a few clouds floating serenely in front of the full moon that was just barely visible outside of the foggy windows. Only the few torches that lined the walls glowed yellow in the night, casting just enough light upon the floors to guide her back to her bed.

An arm pulled her softly into the darkness in a small nook where two walls met each other, and she sorted through the wand-less spells she knew in her mind to find won that would ward off her attacker.

She came up empty, and so she resolved to another tactic.

"Ow!" A clearly male voice said as her elbow connected with his stomach.

"I told you not to take her by surprise!" Someone else joined in.

Eyes widening, Evelina struggled out of his grip, recognising the sound of Rodolphus' voice immediately and cast a quick aguamenti.

A jet of water shot out of her wand in her pocket, soaking the three of them to the bone.

"Merlin!" Now it was a different person.

Evelina slapped Tom.

"What in the bloody hell do you think you're doing?" She whisper-yelled, glaring at them as they looked down sheepishly. "Lumos."

In the soft light that her wand tip emitted she saw three slytherins; Tom and Rodolphus as she had suspected along with Abraxas. The latter of the group ran his hand through his drenched white-blonde hair silently as Tom and Rodolphus refused to look at her.

And then Tom glanced at her with his cobalt eyes and she couldn't do anything but stare back into them. "I want to show you something."

He curled his fingers around her arm, pulling her along with him as she fell silent. Slowly, they climbed up the stairs to the astronomy tower, watching Hogsmeade below them become smaller and smaller through the occasional window.

When they finally reached the top, the stars were out and they twinkled calmly above the two as they leaned onto the balcony and watched. She leaned her head carefully onto his shoulder, the hard muscle covered by rough cloth.

The winter air chilled her to the bone, her uniform's thin cloak not blocking the harsh winds properly as she hunched her shoulders in an attempt to block it out.

Tom placed his hand on her back, body shielding her from the cold as he wrapped his own around her and a shiver ran it's cold fingers up her spine.

"Won't you freeze?" She asked, breath coming out in a puff that was as white as the full moon.

"I'm fine," He murmured, tucking his free hand into his pocket.

"Are you sure?" Evelina continued, looking up at him. "It must be below twenty degrees..."

"I'm sure; I promise." He confirmed.

She sank back into him and fell silent as she just watched the stars above them begin to disappear as the sun began to touch the horizon.

The darkness was shrinking steadily as the rays of light pushed it back like it was a veil and a beautiful array of colours was revealed to her eyes, blue and purple and pink and orange.

She spoke, her hand clutching his. "The view is beautiful."

"It is." He replied, but she felt a searing gaze on her, and when she turned around he was looking at her.

The two stayed there for what seemed like hours, until the sun was finally high enough that Evelina knew it was time to go or else they would be late for breakfast.

They headed back down, and she wrapped her arms around herself as the pair entered the halls again. Instead of the peaceful silence that had occupied it earlier, it was now noisy and bustling with children and staff alike.

Without even a goodbye, Evelina jogged back to her dorm, when she realised that Tom's cloak was still curled around her. It was as if even though he was gone, she could still feel him on her skin; the electricity still buzzed through her.

That was what he did to her.

He electrified her. He lit her up like he was the sun and she'd never known warmth. He brought he to life without a single incantation, he made her happy without even a smile.

"Love." She said out loud. "I think I love him." The words rolled off her tongue as easy as breathing, and the sound of the only word that could describe it was music to her ears.

Love was both too much and too little to contain what they had, she couldn't even come close to explaining it but love was the best she could do, and in that instant she knew that she loved him.

But she also knew that he would never love her back, no matter how much he tried.

And it was all her fault.
