Psychological Warfare

Robin visibly saw Danny freeze. His muscles tensed, stopping midstrike. Looking closer, the boy wonder saw cracks of green appear in Danny's fiery eyes. Slowly, Robin relaxed his stance slightly; enough that he'd be able to defend himself if need be, but he didn't think that would happen.

"Danny, you can beat her. Don't let her turn you into a monster."

Silence. That's what followed Robin's words. Until, suddenly, things exploded with sound. Shouts were heard from the other Titans battling, Cyborg's sonic cannon going off every other second. Raven recited her spell often enough that it sounded more like a mantra than a spell, with various roars and squawks from Beast Boy.

And Danny. His screams joined the fiery demons, though his was far more painful. The half ghost collapsed, clutching his head. Robin rushed to him, the half ghost's name leaving his lips in a cry. Just before Danny would have hit the ground, Robin caught him, barely catching a glimpse of Danny's eyes before he lost consciousness. Eyes that were now two different colors; one the painfully blazing red, the other the vibrant green the Titans had been trying so desperately to get back.

Danny's body ached. No, it didn't ache, it burned. He wanted to curl up, sleep, maybe never wake again. But, unfortunately for him a strange whirring noise kept him from drifting off into oblivion. Finally, he opened his eyes, confused as to why everything seemed to be red.

"Damn." An oddly familiar voice spoke, though it sounded a bit muffled. "I didn't think you'd actually wake up. Guess I'll have to fix that." Danny blinked several times, still not seeing where the voice was coming from. Suddenly, Danny's surroundings seemed to burst. He was ejected from the red haze he'd woken to, and, looking back, Danny saw the remnants of an incubator? What the hell?

"Not the smartest, are you?" That voice spoke again, but Danny could see him now. And, what he saw, was him. Only, rather than the green eyes that was a vital part of his ghostly half, they were a burning red. And, upon closer inspection, Danny saw pointed teeth, and the jumpsuit he had half died in was, not so much different, as entirely changed. The alternate Danny wore studded armor on one shoulder, a torn black cloak billowing behind him. Black boots covered in studs and belts were on his feet, along with several belts layered over his hips.  A crown floated just above his head. Danny gasped at the sight of the crown. It was the very same one that Pariah Dark had worn. What the fuck?!

"What the hell?" Danny said this aloud now, his voice rough and gravely. How long had he been trapped in that incubator?

Slowly, Danny stumbled to his feet, breathing growing ragged at the effort. What was wrong with him?

"What the fuck did she want with you?" The fiery version of himself spoke, a sneer firmly in place. "You're weak. In resolve, and in strength. You'll never win." Danny couldn't help but flinch at the words; words hardly any different from what he'd said to himself countless times. The half ghost finally managed to stand fully, though his breathing was far from even. "You can barely stand!" He taunted.

"Who- What are you?" Danny managed to grit out. He wasn't in pain, so why was speaking so damn difficult?  "Why are you here? Where is here?" The other Danny practically cackled.

"We're in your head dumbass, and you'll be making yourself a permanent resident!" With that he lunged forward. Without realizing it, Danny managed to move out of the way barely a second before a red glowing fist would have made contact. He wasn't given time to recover, and a sharp kick was sent to his ribs. This time, though, he couldn't dodge the blow. Pain exploded in his side, slowly snaking its way outward. Danny staggered, but quickly moved away from his assailant. He began to summon his ghostly powers. But they weren't there.

"We're in your head, you can't use your ghost powers, idiot." Another sharp cackle. Danny nearly growled at the taunts. "What are you gonna do without your powers ghost boy? You're weak with them, you have no chance without them." His words cut deep, but Danny refused to acknowledge them. Not now.

"Who are you!" Danny finally roared, suddenly filled with adrenaline infused power. He closed the space between them in mere moments, kicking the fiery copy of himself in the neck. He couldn't be bothered to laugh at the irony of the situation. He dodged and blocked red glowing fists that flew his way, some of the training he did with Robin coming back to him. He quickly found any and every opening he could find, taking advantage of what  hits he could land. Unfortunately, the adrenaline made him sloppy, and wore off quickly. A fist connected with the bridge of his nose, leaving him blinded for several seconds. Danny felt himself being lifted, suddenly being thrown across the room.

"I'm you!" The other Danny cackled. "But better! I'm the you that is in control! The one who Alpan has made powerful! You can never beat me, you're too weak." The words hit Danny like a sack of bricks. Suddenly, he was very aware of the situation he was in. This demented, fiery version of himself was the on with the motor skills, and he was in control of his body. Alpan was controlling him.

"C'mon Danny, wake up. Don't let her win." Both halfas looked up, Danny confused for a moment, before he recognized Robin's voice. The other, however, looked downright murderous.

"Fuck no!" He growled, red eyes blazing with hate and anger. "There is no way in hell that he's interrupting."

Realization dawned on Danny, making him freeze. Robin's words echoed in his mind. This wasn't an internal battle, he was fighting for control. Danny could've hit himself for being so dense. A wave of power flooded him, Robin's words a mantra he repeated over and over in his head. Don't let her win. Don't let her win. Don't. Let. Her. Win. Danny lunged for the other, a clenched fist aimed for the jaw. However, the blow never connected.

"Do you really think you'll beat me?" The fiery copy of him cackled, throwing him to the ground. "Don't make me laugh. I thought I already told you, you're weak. Without your powers, you're as useful as a newborn." Every other word was accentuated with a blow, Danny could feel blood leaking from the corners of his mouth. However, he didn't feel any pain. "And when I'm done with you, your weak ass friends are next. Maybe I should off little bird boy first."

   Danny froze.

He was going to kill the Titans. He was going to kill his friends.

He was going to kill Robin.

It felt as if something snapped back into place. Danny felt his balance, his coordination come back. He felt his ghostly ability once again flow through his veins. Whatever had been blocking them destroyed. The blood flowing from his mouth dissipated, all cuts and bruises from his battle vanishing. With a renewed vigor, Danny attacked the other boy, who seemed to be in the  position Danny had been in moments go. He threw kicks and punches, hits and ecto-blasts mercilessly. He took revenge for the Titans, knowing that pain had been caused with his body. He took revenge for Robin, knowing that they'd fought at some point. And finally, he took revenge for himself. For the pain he felt when that damned version of himself spoke. For this version of him Alpan had created, using his hate and pain. His guilt.

When Danny stopped, the fiery one was only half conscience. However, he managed to speak a few words that Danny would think of for quite some time to come.

"They'll never accept you... They'll never accept your future..."

"He's waking up." Raven said, a shocking amount of relief in her voice. Robin practically ran to Danny's bedside, the same one he'd occupied in the infirmary what felt like years ago. The other Titans gathered near the halfa's bed, standing back a bit in case of panic. They'd been relived of their battles when the Justice League had finally arrived moments after Danny passed out. Robin had high hopes for his friends mental state, as he'd watched Danny toss and turn in his sleep. It was as if he was locked in an internal battle. Robin was certain he had.

"Danny? Can you here me?" Robin asked, his voice quiet. Danny groaned in response, eyes slowly blinking open. The Titans held their breath, practically laughing in relief when they were met with unnaturally green eyes.

"What happened?" Danny muttered, voice a bit strained.

"You took control back." The halfa winced at Robin's words. What had Alpan done with his body? Memories of his internal battle came rushing back at once. Danny cried out as his counterpart's words rang in his head.

"Danny!" The Titans cried out, taking a step forward.

They'll never accept your future.
