Identity Crisis

Robin had been avoiding Danny for the past few days, though he would never admit to it. He was a Titan dammit! But, truth be told, what Starfire said to him made him think far more than he wanted to on the subject. The most timid member of the Titans had gone out of her way to make sure Robin was being kind towards Danny, despite the fact that they only had interacted a handful of times.

Now, after several days of thought, Robin was finally making his way to the Medic Ward. Danny had yet to make an appearance, but that certainly wasn't anything new. Standing in front of the door, Robin took a deep breath. Finally, he walked in. Robin was used to seeing the half ghost sitting in the bed by the window when he walked in, so the boy wonder was surprised to see his usual spot vacant. Upon further inspection, however, Robin realized that he couldn't see Danny anywhere in the room. Making sure that he really wasn't there, Robin spun on his heel, intending to go straight to the control room of the Tower. Surely the cameras would have caught Danny leaving.

"Robin?" Came a quiet, inquisitive voice behind him. If Robin hadn't been trained against it for so many years, he probably would have jumped. However, he had been trained, so the only reaction was him turning back towards the Medic Ward. Where, miraculously, Danny now stood by his usual bed.

"Where the hell were you?" Robin asked, trying to keep the mild panic from his voice. Danny stared for a moment, his face revealing nothing, even to the observant boy wonder.

"Here." The half ghost responded shortly. Robin stayed silent, waiting for Danny to continue. After a moment, Danny sighed. "I'm a ghost, I can go invisible." Robin practically huffed at the short responses.

They stood there in silence. Danny stared out of the window with a far off look in his eyes, while Robin observed him. Eventually, much to Robin surprise, Danny spoke.

"Robin?" He practically muttered turning his gaze to the boy wonder. Robin just raised an eyebrow in question, curious as to what Danny had to ask. "How-" He started, swallowing thickly. Robin saw him take a deep breath, before Danny continued. "How did you find me?" He practically whispered, shocking Robin more than he would ever admit. Of all of things Robin thought Danny would ask him, especially considering what happened when that facility had been brought up, this was probably the last. Apparently, Robin took too long to respond, as Danny continued to speak. "I-I mean, I w-wasn't close by. And the G-" He paused, swallowing. "They would have made sure no one would find me, so how?" Not noticing Danny's slight slip, Robin responded.

"Someone contacted us at the Tower. It was an anonymous call, so we aren't sure who exactly, but we were able to trace the call to the main building of a company." Robin responded, noticing the wary look on Danny's face. "Dalv, that was the company."

Danny could hardly breathe. Dalv? There was only one person who could have possibly known where he was, but he was supposed to be on an asteroid hurdling through space. And, for that matter, why did he even care? Danny always (reasonably) thought that after the Nasty Burger explosion, Vlad had lost all interest in him. So why the hell did he call the freaking Teen Titans of all people, to come rescue him? It just didn't make sense. And why didn't he come himself? The questions continued to race through his mind, no signs of an end. And, as Danny was still a reckless teenager, he knew what he had to do in order to find out the answers, as much as he didn't want to.

"How soon can I get to Wisconsin?" Danny asked, surprising Robin even further.

Raven was bit surprised when Robin asked her for a favor. Firstly, because he was far too prideful for that. Secondly, and the most surprising, was the favor itself. Why on Earth did he want to go to Wisconsin, with the half ghost no less?

"No." She responded to a tense Robin. He practically gaped at her. Before he could protest, she continued. "I will not take you and Danny to Wisconsin alone. The other Titans will come as well." Now Robin did gape.

"Why?" He practically sputtered. Robin didn't want the other Titans to come with he and Danny. God only knew what thy may come across. Though, he knew they wouldn't have to deal with the people at that facility. The Justice League had more than taken care of them. After all, the punishment for breaking a law in protection of a metahuman were very severe. However, Danny's reaction to the news of who enabled his rescue had Robin on edge.

"We have no way to know what to expect, therefore, you and Danny may be in danger. Having the rest of us there will better your chances." She responded. Giving Robin no chance to refuse, she walked away. Really, why did people keep doing that to him? It was quickly becoming very aggravating.

Robin sighed in defeat, knowing that there was no way to keep the other Titans out of this. Sighing again, he walked towards the living room, preparing to meet his fate. He just hoped that he would survive what he knew was coming.

"Dude! You were gonna leave without us!" Beast Boy shouted. Robin sighed, feeling a headache coming on. He had already heard the (very loud) protests of Cyborg and Starfire, so in comparison, Beast Boy's shouts were nothing more than a whisper. When Robin turned to glare at Raven, he could have sworn he saw the ghost of a smirk there. This wasn't helping his mood in the slightest.

"Look, I know it could be dangerous, but-" He started, hoping to convince them not to tag along, but was effectively cut off.

"No way, man. We're coming with you, whether you like it or not." Cyborg stated while crossing his arms, not taking no for an answer. Robin sighed for what felt like the hundredth time today. There was no way he would get out of this.

Roughly an hour later, the Titans were all gathering in the Medic Ward. They didn't want Danny to overexert himself, especially when they didn't know what was to come. Danny simply sat on the edge of the bed, staring out the large window, ignoring the stares he was receiving. He had been sitting here since Robin had left, utterly lost in thought.

"Robin." Raven said, her voice devoid of emotion. Robin nodded in response. Swiftly, he walked over to Danny, laying a hand gently on his shoulder. In truth, Robin was concerned for the half ghost. And, while he had been worried before, that only increased when he told Danny of Dalv. Did he know who contacted them? That couldn't be possible. Dalv was a rather large company, after all. How could Danny possibly know who it was? Danny abruptly stood, surprising Robin out of his thoughts.

Without another word, the Titans all gathered around Raven. The sorcerous enveloped the group with her magic, taking the form of a large raven.

Danny tripped slightly upon landing, nearly falling to his knees. Dammit! He silently cursed. Even though he had been out of that damn GIW facility for over a month, he was still both physically and ectoplasmically weak! It was infuriating! Not to mention humiliating!

Quickly regaining his balance, Danny straightened his back. He stared at the large building towering before him. He hadn't needed to tell Robin the location, as they had tracked the call. And there was no way in hell Danny would tell him where Vlad lived. In fact, Danny sincerely hoped he could manage to ditch the Titans before he saw the older half ghost. Unfortunately, Danny doubted that would happen.

"Can I help you?" A petite, red headed receptionist asked when they walked through the front doors. Robin stepped forward.

"Yes. We would like to see the CEO." He said. Danny saw the disbelieving look on the lady's face. And, when she opened her mouth to respond, Danny cut in.

"Tell him that the Teen Titans would like to see him." He said, hoping that would be enough. Luckily, it was. The receptionist's eyes widened, before she quickly grabbed the phone, muttering about how they should have something sooner. Danny rolled his eyes at the comment. How could she not know? They weren't exactly discreet, with their brightly colored costumes. Danny was brought out of his derisive thoughts when she started giving them directions to the proper office. Danny didn't hesitate, and began walking towards the office. Dread coiled in his stomach, but he ignored it. Danny needed answers, and he would damn well get them.

When the group finally made it to the head office, they all paused. The Teen Titans weren't sure why it was so important that Danny meet the CEO of Dalv, but they didn't question it. Danny, however, was nervous. After all, his last encounter hadn't exactly gone well. What, with hurdling him into the stratosphere. Taking a deep breath, he opened the door.

The group was greeted by the back of an older man, wearing a rather expensive looking suit. His hair was gray, and pulled back. The man spoke without turning around.

"Titans! To what do I owe this pleasure? Surely you have better things to do than speak to me?" He asked, still not turning to face them. Robin was the one to answer.

"The Titans are not the ones who wanted to see you." He said, causing the man to tense. "Danny?" Robin asked quietly. However, the older man heard them loud an clear. He whipped around, revealing his surprisingly young looking face.

"D-Daniel?" He stuttered out, shocking Danny. Never had he heard Vlad Masters, one of the richest men in the country, a manipulative pain in the ass, stutter. "You're alive?" He said, taking a step forward, shock clearly written on his face.

"Was it you?" Danny asked, feeling the anger that always came with talking to the older haaf ghost swell in his chest. Danny scowled heavily when Vlad didn't immediately respond.

"Pardon?" He asked, seeming to recover slightly from his shock. "What is it you thought I've done?"

"Were you the one to call the Titans?" Danny took Vlad's hesitation as a yes. "Why?" He demanded. "Why the fuck did you call them? Why would you save me? And why the hell did you do it anonymously?" Danny exploded, hating himself when he felt tears burning behind his eyes. He didn't bother to look at the Titans, it wasn't hard to imagine their shocked faces at both the newfound information, and his sudden outburst.

"Little Badger-" Danny cut him off with a glare at the nickname. "Daniel, I never wanted you to know." Vlad practically muttered. "I never imagined you would be able to come to the correct conclusion. But, it seems I was wrong." He sighed. "Daniel, I called the Titans because I know what the GIW was doing to you. And I know that you were losing the one thing that always made you powerful; your stubbornness." He said, staring directly into Danny's eyes. It was Danny's turn to be shocked.

"W-What?" He asked, barely noticing how he stuttered. "You... You knew?" Danny felt like his brain had been frozen, Vlad's words ringing in his ears.

"Danny, when I had heard about your mother, may Maddie rest in peace, I vowed to do everything in my power to protect you." He spoke, Danny not noticing the information he had given away. That is, until Robin spoke.

"Maddie? But that's Fenton's..." Robin trailed off. Danny's eyes widened in fear when a look of realization crossed the boy wonder's face. "You're Daniel Fenton, aren't you?"
