Confrontations

"Danny, get back to the Tower!" Robin shouted, stepping in front of the still exhausted teen. He stood protectively, glaring at Alpan with every ounce of hatred he felt. "Go!"

"No, I can still fight Robin," Danny said breathlessly, trying desperately to get to his feet. "This is my fight-"

"No, you have to go! Now!" Robin ordered. "Starfire, get Danny back to the Tower!" The Tameranian quickly complied, apologizing profusely as she all but dragged Danny away.

"Oh, come now Little Bird, let Daniel stay. There is still so much fun to be had." She said, her wispy voice carrying to each of the Titans clearly. "Isn't that right, Danny? Don't you remember all the fun we had? Recruiting ghosts, destroying those who stood against us?"

Memories came to Danny unbidden. He let out a pained cry as Starfire slowed, checking for his wellbeing. Memories he didn't know he had were pulled to the surface. Memories of beating lesser ghost into submission, putting any that couldn't be convinced out of commission. Memories of shouts of pain as they were forcibly altered to fit Alpan's will. Memories of nearly obliterating pacifistic ghosts. He wanted them to stop. Please, just stop!

"Danny!" Came the near panicked cry from Starfire, having been forced from the sky by Danny's pain. "Please, what causes you such terrible pain?" Her concern, and near frantic words were met with a pained cry from Danny. Though, it was no longer from the invading memories.

"Starfire!" Robin barked. It would normally be far too aggressive, but she understood. Robin was scared for Danny.

"Danny~" Alpan cooed at the halfa, her voice mocking. "Won't you come back?"

"Shut up." Danny sat up, waving Starfire away. "You forced me," he growled now, volume quickly rising, "you forced me to be your fucking puppet!" His anger once again fueled him, though Danny took no notice of this. All he knew was that he was fucking pissed.

"Come now Daniel, we both know the inevitable." Danny froze, his anger still apparent. He wouldn't become that monster, he swore that the moment he knew of his existence. They're still dead. You've already hurt so many. A voice whispered in the back of his mind. "Do you really think these children will stand by you? Help you grow stronger, when they learn of your future? I can give you power, keep you from the pain of their future betrayal."

Danny would never willingly join her, he knew that much. But maybe she was right. How could they ever trust-

"Shut up." Raven bit out, throwing metal beams that had been upturned during the previous battles at her. "No future is inevitable."

"No Titan will ever be abandoned." Beast Boy said, still panting from the portal being opened.

"No ability'll be looked down on," Cyborg shouted, shooting off a sonic blast.

"And none of us will let you take Danny again," Robin bellowed. "Titans! Go!"

The fight began. The Titans charged, barring Starfire; she was left to guard the still reeling Danny. The sounds of battle went unheard to the half ghost. Did they know? About Dan? About what their death meant?

Danny watched on, though not truly seeing the battle that was taking place. Raven and Beast Boy attacked Alpan almost directly head on, at least when they could land a hit, while Cyborg and Robin assisted from the ground. The growing frustration from the two was almost palpable. Danny was finally snapped out of his stupor when a pained cry from Beast Boy rang through the air.

"Beast Boy!" Danny shouted, flying past Starfire in his hast to catch the changeling. Just before he hit some rather sharp rocks jutting from the ground, Danny caught him. Beast Boy's tense body relaxed upon the comforting aura radiating from the halfa. Danny righted the green boy, making sure that he could stand properly, before flying off to the fight.

He vaguely heard dissenting shouts from the others, but he ignored them. He only had eyes for Alpan. Danny felt his rage bubble up to the surface. How dare she? How dare she force him to hurt other ghosts? Ghosts who had nothing wrong! How dare she make him hurt his friends? Danny felt icy power build behind his retinas, letting it burst forth when he was only a matter of feet from Alpan. He could feel his eyes continue to burn blue after the attack. More icy blasts were sent her way, ice imbued with his ecto-energy. With every attack fired, he inched closer, until there was little room separating him from his target. Danny stopped his rain of attacks, swiftly attacking with a more human method; barring, of course, the fact that they were at least fifty feet above the ground. He used his fists as a method to vent his anger.

But Alpan didn't fight back. Eventually Danny caught a glimpse of her.

There wasn't a scratch painting her pale skin.

She caught an oncoming punch in her own fist, grip forcing bones to grind. He couldn't hold back a cry of pure agony.

"Did you truly think you could defeat me? I thought you were smarter than this, Daniel," she hissed, voice sounding akin to a harpy. "Do you not remember what humans did to you? Why do you insist on protecting such an infernal species?" Her grip snaked downwards to Danny's wrist. Her fist grew warmer with every passing word until it felt like flames engulfed the entirety of his arm, the fire steadily spreading. He bit his lip until it bled, desperately trying to hold back his cries of pain.

Alpan was suddenly thrown back by the familiar blue blast that was Cyborg's sonic cannon; followed almost immediately by several of Robin's projectile weapons.

"Do you ever stop talking?" Cyborg growled out, arm still held out from the attack. Danny flew further away from her, covering the hand-shaped burn that now covered his wrist in his own ice.

"Danny, are you okay?" Robin asked, several ice disks at the ready.

"Fine," he answered, eyes not leaving the quickly approaching Alpan. "Listen, you need to get the Titans and you need to leave. This is my fight, not yours. Don't risk you and your team's lives for this."

There was a long beat of silence.

"Fuck no," Robin all but growled. "When will you understand that we care about you, Danny? You don't have to be alone anymore. You're not alone anymore. We will fight with you, help you."

A stream of fire shot between the two boys, breaking their attention away from the other.

"Isn't that adorable," came the irritatingly mocking voice. "You and your pathetic team will not defeat me, Little Bird. You may have taken my priest, but the goddess still remains."

"Wow, a little narcissistic are we?" Danny snorted, finding the sarcasm too perfect to pass up. A chuckle came from said "Little Bird," causing a smirk to spread across Danny's face.

The Titans charged once again, this time working fully as a team. Starfire grabbed Cyborg, dropping him on the back of Beast Boy; who currently was a pterodactyl. He shot off sonic blasts, with Raven throwing various debris at her. Starfire shot starbolts, from her fists and eyes respectively, at their enemy, flying just out of the way of Alpan's counter attacks. Robin was with Danny, with the halfa carrying him while simultaneously shooting ice and ecto-blasts from his eyes.

It was clear that Alpan was tiring under the near relentless stream of attacks, but she refused to fall. Similarly, the Titans were nearing their breaking point. The exhausting battles against the flame demons had worn them out, leaving them dead on their feet. The Justice League was likely still occupied by the remaining fire demons, so they couldn't rely on them to step in. Danny saw this change, but refused to allow himself to think on what could happen. He wouldn't lose. They wouldn't lose.

The battle made its way to the ground, a relief for the flying members of the Titans. Alpan continued to fire off her burning attacks, but they lacked the intensity they once had. Robin took out his all but famous staff, extending it as he charged. The others caught their breath, looking for an opening that wouldn't interrupt the boy wonder's attacks. Eventually, the heat became a bit too much for Robin, forcing him back. Danny saw the state of the Titans. Each one sporting bruises, cuts, and several suffering from nasty looking burns. This had to end. And Danny knew of one way, quite possibly the only way, to do it. It was a risk, particularly with his core being so exhausted, but he would gladly risk his own health in order to stop Alpan.

"Robin, you and the Titans get behind me. And cover your ears," his voice was deathly serious, broking no argument from the Titan. Though, there was worry and fear on his face that Danny refused to pay attention to. Alpan stood across from Danny, panting heavily from her confrontation with Robin. Danny gathered every bit of what was left of his power in his vocal chords, feeling his icy core interact with his ectoplasm. It was almost wild, desperately trying to escape the strict control Danny had on it.

   He let it go.

Danny felt the power release, hearing the volume, but knowing it was much louder, and much more powerful than his own ears could register. The Titans cried out in pain at the volume, causing a bit of guilt to well up in Danny, but he pushed it back. He focused on shoving his power towards Alpan, determined to defeat her.

Eventually, after what was surely an eternity, Danny cut off his ghostly wail. He collapsed to his knees, staring at the destruction he wrought. Ice covered every surface outward, freezing the debris the attack stirred up. Buildings that had only been half destroyed previously were now levelled, ice smoothly covering the destruction. And in the center was Alpan. She was not frozen, but the damage was clear enough. Her body was covered in scratches, and she was sprawled at least fifty feet back from where she'd stood before. Danny stared at her for several moments before being satisfied that she was at least unconscious.

"Danny!" The Titans cried, running up to where he had collapsed. He looked up at their worried faces, a smile spreading as memories of Sam and Tucker in that very same position flooded his mind.

"Danny..." Robin trailed off, the only who seemed able to speak at the moment.

   "I got her..."

And, upon saying those words, and to the sound of the Titans concerned voices, Danny lost consciousness.

A/n: Hey guys! I hope you liked it! I'll admit, I'm always a bit scared writing battle scenes, so any constructive criticism is welcome and appreciated!

Please leave a comment, I just love reading them!
