The week after, Yoojin was stressed with her new part-time job as well as school, but seeing Wooyoung always lifted her spirits. She didn't know it, but he had lessened the amounts of fights he did by a lot.
On Thursday afternoon, she come home afterschool to an empty house. She frowned, wondering where her twin would be since he said he'd be home early that day. When Yoojin tried calling him, he didn't answer. Instead, she received a text from her mum stating that he was at the hospital. She immediately sprinted out and caught a taxi.
The whole way there, she tugged on the ends of her hair nervously. She had feared this would happen one day despite her wishes that it wouldn't. Of course, she knew Youngbin always got into fights, but he never ended up in the hospital – he was always the victor of his bullying.
When she arrived at the large hospital, she quickly found out his room and barged in. However, the air was heavy and the people inside were absorbed in their conversation. Youngbin lay on the bed with his broken nose covered in a cast-like thing. His mum, his teacher and another boy in their white school shirt stood around him. The boy was short and skinny with a bowl cut; perhaps he was the assailant. Yoojin slowly stepped closer to grasp the situation.
"Narcotics. That's what this is," the bowl-cut boy said, holding something on his pointer finger.
Yoojin strained her neck to see but he had his back to her.
"What are you talking about? Where's your evidence?" Youngbin demanded furiously, his voice rising every sentence. "Do you have proof that I did it?"
"Read the room," the other boy replied, his voice nearly empty with a hint of tiredness.
Then he picked up Youngbin's dark backpack. "This is your bag, right?"
He turned the bag upside down, releasing its contents onto Youngbin's hospital bed. Among the stationary that fell out, some drugs – Narcotics and Fentanyl – were exposed. Even though she had hoped Youngbin stopped bullying in high school, she knew it was futile, but she didn't know what to do. She couldn't believe he did something this extreme. Putting Narcotics on someone could make them sick and dizzy – which is what happened to Sieun during their midterm exam.
Youngbin's mum was shocked but angrier - angry that she had to leave work for this hindrance. The grim adults relocated outside to discuss the punishment. Turning around, the other boy met Yoojin's eyes. She glanced down at his name badge – Yeon Sieun. With trembling lips, she bowed 90 degrees down.
"I sincerely apologise for my brother," Yoojin said.
Youngbin's thick eyebrows shot up and his beady eyes glared at her. "Hey! Don't you dare apologise to him."
The girl ignored him and continued. "Youngbin shouldn't have done that. He's usually a nice person but sometimes his big head makes him do stupid things. I know it's hard to forgive him but please show him some mercy."
Sieun just stared at her, his blank face being quite intimidating. He gave a curt nod and walked out. She let out a breath. While she didn't exactly favour his first impression, she felt bad for the boy. Once he was gone, Yoojin ran to Youngbin's side. She inspected him worried, but his annoyed look told her that he was probably fine.
"Narcotics? Youngbin, this is war too far," she scolded her twin.
"He broke my nose!" Youngbin countered.
"That was after you sabotaged him."
"I can't stand him. He always thinks he's the best and doesn't talk to anyone."
He must've been the boy that Youngbin complained about – the first place student.
Yoojin sighed and sat down on a chair. "Just stop fighting and provoking people. And please, please, please be careful and don't get hurt."
"Okay, mum," Youngbin drawled.
Silence covered the room as he took a rest and Yoojin made sure he had some water.
"Yoojin," the boy finally said. "You shouldn't be too close with Wooyoung. I know he's my friend but he's made a lot of enemies from beating people up and everyone knows you're his girl."
"What? I'm not, no, we're not," Yoojin stuttered embarrassingly, her cheeks tomato red.
"I know you're just best friends, but people always see what they want to see. I care for you more than him. You know I'm just looking out for you, right? I want you to hang out with good people and live a happy life without being scared."
Yoojin swallowed. It was rare for him to open his heart, yet she knew he always felt this way. Luckily, many people didn't know she was Youngbin's sister since they went to different schools and didn't stick together much outside. Indeed, people recognised her as the girl who was always with Wooyoung.
The twins stayed together until it got late and Yoojin headed home first. Youngbin was discharged the next day and it was decided that he would transfer to Jisung High School with Yoojin. He quickly got used to it and became one of the top students. Unfortunately, people found out that Yoojin was his sister, but she didn't care.
One day, Youngyi called Yoojin, telling her to meet after school because Youngbin called Seokdae's friends for something. Yoojin had a feeling it wasn't good and when she arrived at Youngbin's old school, it confirmed her feelings. Students trailed out of the wide school gates, passing the odd bunch of scary looking people and Yoojin.
"Youngyi, is he planning on ganging up on Sieun?" Yoojin whispered as they waited at the bottom of the hill with the other large boys.
"Sieun? I think so – whoever broke your brother's nose," Youngyi replied nonchalantly.
The long-haired girl frowned. How could she stop it? Tell Sieun to run away? No, Youngbin would keep coming. Beg Youngbin to stop? No, he was too stubborn.
While she was buried in her thoughts, Sieun appeared, and the boys were dragging him down the street. Youngyi pulled the girl along and they all ended up in a small alleyway space. The tall boys cornered Sieun like hyenas.
"We'll stand watch," Youngyi announced.
"We will?" Yoojin tilted her head.
Youngyi nodded and took the girl with her to stand around the corner. While she felt guilty for not stopping her twin, she was grateful that the other girl stopped her from witnessing the action. They got to catch up a lot – trying to ignore the shouts and punches a few metres away. The whole time, she fiddled with the ends of her hair.
Then, two frantic boys came running past, most likely Sieun's friends. Yoojin told Youngyi to just let them be – praying that they saved Sieun. Was she worried for her brother? A bit, but they still outnumbered Sieun's group.
After a few minutes, the two boys came back around the corner with Sieun, finally escaping from Youngbin. The two girls exchanged glances and went to where the boys were. While Yoojin was worried, Youngyi wasn't. All the boys were quite battered, even the strong Seokdae who looked guilty.
"Are you done tormenting Sieun?" Yoojin asked her twin.
"No," he snapped, clenching his fists. "He keeps being... annoying. It's destroying my pride."
"You can't expect everyone to take your beatings and listen to you like a puppy dog."
"Whatever," Youngbin muttered, exiting the area first.
Indeed, that wasn't the last of Sieun and his friends. Yoojin didn't even think that she would meet them again so soon, but she came face to face with one of them later that week. She didn't usually draw at the convenience store, but it was the perfect day in Spring to capture the cherry blossoms on the tall tree there. The pink flowers were like fairies overseeing the street.
With her strawberry milk and chocolate bread, Yoojin sat at the green table outside. She faced her favourite cherry blossom tree and traced it in her mind before moving the pencil along in her book. Wooyoung was busy today and so were her other friends, but she liked the peace and quiet for once. As she worked, someone sat down to inspect her but she focused on her drawing.
"You're the girl by the alleyway the other day, right? The pretty girl," the boy tilted his head with a smile before clicking his fingers. "Ah, I wanted to ask for your number, but we were in a rush."
It was the tall, strong looking boy who seemed to have a sparkle in his eyes and a loose grin. He was quite good looking too – though not as much as Wooyoung. The boy wore casual pants and a white top, leaning back in his seat.
"You're the one who fought Youngbin and Seokdae's gang," Yoojin nodded, taking a sip of her milk.
"I knew it; you were with those guys. The other girl you were with seemed kind of scary. Are you dating one of the guys?" he asked.
"No."
"Perfect."
Then the relaxed boy ripped off a bit of her chocolate bread and popped it in his mouth. He let out a noise of satisfaction.
"Hey," Yoojin protested, putting down her pencil. "That's mine."
"Let's call it even since your friends beat me and my friends up."
Fair point. The boy now looked victorious.
"I'm Ahn Sooho," the boy announced.
"I'm Yoojin," the girl responded, omitting her surname which could reveal her identity as Youngbin's sister. "So, what are you doing around here?"
"I just finished some chicken deliveries – my part time job," he gestured to the motorbike by the sidewalk.
"Nice. I've got work today too. I work at the café down the street."
She jerked her head to the left, where the café stood next to the corner of the block. Sooho's eyes lit up with recognition and he leaned forward.
"The one with the really cool chocolate cake, right?" he checked.
"Yeah. But I prefer their berry tarts," Yoojin added.
"Oh my god, yes. I love their tarts."
The girl smiled, the spring breeze caressing her long hair. Cherry blossoms waved at her, and one fell down, landing on her paper. The sun had finished its peak and was slowly heading down. Sooho yawned. His carefree nature made Yoojin like him. Though, Sooho had already decided that he liked the girl. She was easy to talk to and fun to tease.
"I'm so tired," Sooho groaned. "I'm gonna take a nap. Wake me up when you leave."
Before she could protest, Sooho folded his big arms on the table like a pillow, and laid his head there, closing his eyes. Yoojin could've left but she decided to stay and finish her cherry blossom drawing. She wondered why he didn't just go home to sleep but it was rather funny to watch him sleep here. Such a nice, bubbly guy – it was hard to believe that this giant puppy could fight so well. At least he seemed to do it for justice and knew when to stop, as she could hear him bravely speak out in the alleyway last time.
They were there for nearly half an hour. When the sky turned to cherry blossom pink, Yoojin shook the boy awake. He lifted his head with a yawn. Before Yoojin went to her part-time job, they exchanged phone numbers as per Sooho's request.

I copied some of the lines from the episodes, but I'm lazy so sometimes through the story, I just made it up.
